The Purpose of Short and Long Leashes
When you’re shopping for your dog, or any product for that matter, it benefits us much more when we have an understanding of the purpose and functionality of the product. Leashes come in many colors and sizes. A longer leash allows a dog more slack, therefore giving them the option to be farther away from the pet owner. But if your dog is reactive to people, pulls while on the leash, isn’t used to being on a leash, gets rambunctious in public, or maybe doesn’t do well with other dogs, it’s safe to say that a 48in leash won’t be your best option. The purpose of a shorter leash gives the handler more control. So, for example, if your dog weighed 80lb (that’s a fairly big dog, not massive but big) and has a tendency to get reactive when seeing another dog, the last thing you want is your dog getting out of control, taking you for a ride, and causing you to release the leash. This is obviously a hazard for both your pet, yourself, and the innocent dog that just so happened to be going on a walk. A longer leash is perfect for teaching your dog commands, especially when teaching your furry companion to respond accordingly to commands when far away from you.
Also, if you don’t know how your dog will do or act around other dogs, it’s always better to be safe than sorry; it won’t hurt to be cautious. You could always try a shorter leash until you feel more confident that your dog is fine. And try to keep in mind, vice versa, you never know if this dog who you’ve never met will get along with yours on their first meet. It won’t hurt to play it safe 😉

There's nothing like the moment you bring your new fur baby home, officially making them family ❤️ It's also very important to be mindful and cautious when introducing your dog to other dogs for the first time. Some people are very fortunate to have dogs who get along with every new person, dog, cat, kid, bug, and stranger they meet, which is awesome. There's also people who aren't that lucky, and for reasons that may be sometimes unknown to the pet owner, their dog may have certain "quirks". For example, maybe the dog doesn't like hyper dogs and gets aggressive when this "stranger dog" who they've never met before is just way too energetic for them. Or maybe the dog doesn't get along with male dogs. The most important thing to understand is that dogs are much like people, who go thru things and have emotions. With that being said, if your dogs are introduced to other dogs for the first time, the safest thing for all parties involved to do is make sure every dog is kept on a leash. Whether you're doing a meet-and-greet, or at a dog park, or even walking your dog in your neighborhood, safety first. No matter how well trained your dog might be, it's always safest to keep your dog on a leash, ESPECIALLY when being introduced to other dogs for the first time.

One of the more common ailments a pet owner will come across are ear infections. It's much easier for dogs to get ear infections than people, so as a pet owner you may go thru this more than once. Some common prevention techniques include keeping your dogs ears dry and cleaning your dogs ears with absorbent gauze instead of paper towels or cotton sticks (cotton swabs can pack and push debris deeper into the canal, while paper towels tend to leave irritating fibers behind). It's important to understand that dog ear infections will not go away on their own. Also, if you wait too long to treat them, ear infections can lead to chronic issues and become more difficult to get under control. That being said, if you believe your dog is suffering from an ear infection, waste no time and bring your dog to your local vet to get your pet the medical attention it needs. Some of the symptoms to keep an eye out for are constant shaking of the head, constantly tilting the head, scratching at the ears, redness in the ear canal, discharge from the ear, bad odor, or crust/scabbing along the ear margin. We are not medical or veterinary physicians, so we strongly suggest bringing in your dog to a professional if you believe your fur baby is experiencing an ear infection.
For some people training a dog can come as no easy task, and people resort to different methods. While some people may resort to shock collars, a dog training collar is an amazing alternative for when you're teaching your dogs how to walk on a leash, learn commands, or even teaching them their name. They're commonly misidentified as a choke collar but that's not what they're called or what they're for. For starters, the collar isn't used to intentionally choke any dog. It's more a self-correcting tool. Being that training collars are to be used for training purposes, it's really not safe to leave them on any one dog for a prolonged period. It's best to reposition the collar every other hour, and probably take the collar off every 4-6 hours, to avoid any irritation and possible safety hazard that can be caused if a dogs paw were to get caught. As a dog walks on a leash with a training collar, the more the dog walks ahead and tries to pull away or get away from the leash, there is less slack on the leash and it causes the leash to constrict. This forces the dog to correct their walking pattern on their own to avoid constriction to their neck. The objective would obviously be to call the dog by name and not yank the collar, but instead flick at the collar to get their attention as you redirect them. Our Bully Wurld training collars come in 24 inches and 13mm wide and are perfect for training any breed of dog.
