Governor Holcomb has declared November 5th-12th as "Adopt a Hoosier Shelter Pet Week," and we're excited to be part of this statewide initiative.
๐๐ This proclamation aims to raise awareness about the growing problem of pet homelessness, driven by factors like inflation, rising costs of pet care, the lack of pet-friendly housing, and the shortage of veterinary resources. Shelters and rescue groups are strained, operating beyond their capacity, and sadly, healthy pets are at risk. This threatens the incredible progress made in saving the lives of homeless pets over the years.
๐ถ๐ฑ Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control is experiencing a high intake of animals, exceeding our safe capacity. We kindly ask our city to extend a helping hand during this crisis. There are various ways to assist:
