NEW - loofahs now available. Some people mistakenly think they come from the sea like sponges, but loofahs start out as a vining squash that looks similar to a zucchini. Grown chemical free and processed right here on our quarter acre ~ $5 each.

Blackberries are ripe early this year! When we were kids, we would pick a whole ice cream bucket full of black raspberries and dewberries growing wild in the woods, sprinkle them with sugar, and gorge on them while playing Atari. Nowadays, I prefer these beauties picked right here in my yard in a Blackberry Bourbon Mash or cobbler.

Most of my posts are about bees or edible plants in our yard, but we still have room for beauty on our quarter acre: lilies, daffodils, bleeding hearts, roses, irises, azaleas, phlox, dahlias, sunflowers, goldenrod, hydrangeas, and Peonies!

I love it when family can get in on the act! We were called to capture bee swarms two days in a row at my niece's school. My sister suited up to assist and my niece's class observed at a safe distance while I provided some educational narration on bees. The first swarm in a tree was quickly captured prior to dismissal. The second one on the picnic table happened after hours and I was able to take my time, capture the queen and watch the bees march in to join her. Thank you school administrators for calling a beekeeper to save the bees!
