Clifford almost has the drinking post figured out! He'll come over & bump me gently with his nose to fill back up for him.
Summer was extremely busy for me between running camps and filling in for absent workers there wasnt much time. However, I did want to share some progress with one of my summer campers. We worked on improving how she turned the horse. First part of the video is from the first week and the second part is from her second week. I was thrilled to see this rider be able to improve like this! Being able to ride 5 days in a row made a huge difference!
These two are learning about being groomed. It's an experience trying to groom with both of them at the same time!
Took the foals for a walk through the barn, then around the front of the barn and out to the back pasture. Zoom zoom!!!
Clifford still loves playing with the ball and Miata goes zoom zoom!
First time I led them out to the round pen myself. Other than some bouncing around on Miata's part as we neared the round pen, it went great!
It's a Whole New World to Explore! Clifford & Miata's first time being led out the front barn doors!

I've been intentionally quiet on how things have been going with the foals. I attempted to start haltering Clifford a few weeks ago... and as you can see in the first part of the video that it did not go very smoothly. Afterwards, he was very leery of me if I had anything in my hands. Recognizing I was out of my element and not wanting to make more mistakes on this part, I sought out help. Jacqueline Nadler Horsemanship came out and, with just a few short sessions, was haltering both foals. After watching her and discussing her methods, I'm able to put a halter on both foals with ease now (see second part of video).
Next step: building them up to leading
Calvin & Ariel learning to relax with another horse working around them
Calvin inadvertently gave DaVinci and Katie a brief "herding" lesson. Calvin loved this game, apparently! 🤷♀️
Calvin following Ariel at liberty
Have been working on picking up feet with the colt. As you can see, he LOVES attention! The filly is curious but still likes to keep her distance.
Today I introduced the foals to a ball. The chestnut colt has a high play drive & has been getting a bit rough with the younger filly. As you can see, this colt absolutely loves playing with the ball!
Taking care of nurse mare foals can be a lot of work!
This is the mix I was instructed to feed them. Today I have fed them at 2am, 8am, 11am, 2 pm, 5 pm, & 8pm.... and I'm sure tomorrow will be the same!
A bit of an unconventional desensitizing session with Gwendolyn tonight after a brief liberty session in the round pen. I sat on the swing & she ate grass. She eventually learned on her own accord that she didn't need to react every time I pumped my legs on the swing.
Was shown a lot of new things to work on in my lesson with Calvin at liberty the other day! So much fun!
I wanted to show the difference in this mare's attitude in being tacked up with her old saddle versus the new Balance Saddle system. After seeing this horse's attitude and behavior change, I was sold! Very happy to see this horse so much happier and relaxed! ❤️❤️❤️
I finally made the time to try out the fodder trial kit I got from Colton Woods Horsemanship last year. Had a blast watching the seeds sprout! Enjoy this video clip I put together of growing & distributing the final product! Took 8 days to grow, most of the horses didn't even try it, but the ponies & pig LOVED IT! 😁
So this is Moe. He is a halflinger being boarded at my farm. Like most halflingers, he's a bit of a busybody. I have a stash of milk jugs. On days horses stay in, I'll drill holes in one and toss in some treats. This keeps him busy, and workers can clean his stall without too much hassle from him.
Hay net experiment update!
2nd full day with the hangry horse out
This time, the 3 horses were just finishing up the last bits of hay by the time they came in for dinner. 😃
