Parvo Season Awareness‼️⚠️

Vaccination is the best protection against parvovirus. 💉

However, vaccines won’t help if your dog is already sick.

During parvo season, it’s crucial to take extra precautions:

📌Keep your pup inside:
📌Limit outdoor activities to reduce exposure to the virus.
📌Avoid dirt and high-risk areas:
📌Parvovirus can live in the soil for months.
📌Stay away from other dogs: Until your pup’s vaccinations are complete, avoid contact with unvaccinated or unknown dogs.

Protect your furry friend and stay vigilant during parvo season!

Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial infection that affects dogs and can be transmitted to humans.
It's commonly found in water and soil contaminated by the urine of infected animals.

Dogs can contract leptospirosis through direct contact with contaminated water or soil, or through bites and scratches.

Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, and lethargy. Severe cases can lead to kidney or liver damage.

Preventive measures include vaccinating your dog, avoiding stagnant water, and keeping your environment clean.

Regular veterinary check-ups are essential for early detection and treatment. Stay informed and proactive to keep your furry friend healthy and safe!

Toad poisoning in dogs is more common than many pet owners realize. Toads, especially in warmer climates, secrete toxins that can be extremely harmful to dogs.
Symptoms of toad poisoning include drooling, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, and seizures.

Immediate veterinary attention is crucial if you suspect your dog has been exposed.

Prevention is key—always supervise your dog outdoors, keep them on a leash, and be aware of your local toad population. Educating yourself and others about this danger can save your dog’s life. Stay alert and keep your pets safe!

What is Hypocalcemia or low blood calcium level?

It is a condition that is becoming increasingly common in dogs, especially during critical life stages such as pregnancy and lactation. Calcium is vital for numerous bodily functions, including bone formation, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission. When calcium levels drop too low, it can lead to serious health issues.

What Causes Hypocalcemia in Dogs?

📍Pregnancy and Lactation: Female dogs, especially small breeds, are at a higher risk of hypocalcemia during and after pregnancy. The growing puppies in the womb and the production of milk can deplete the mother's calcium reserves.

📍Dietary Imbalance: Dogs that do not receive a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D are at risk. A proper diet is essential for maintaining healthy calcium levels.

📍Parathyroid Disorders: Issues with the parathyroid gland, which regulates calcium levels in the blood, can also lead to hypocalcemia.

📍Renal Failure: Chronic kidney disease can interfere with the body's ability to manage calcium levels effectively.

Symptoms of Hypocalcemia

Muscle tremors or twitching
Seizures
Restlessness or anxiety
Weakness and lethargy
Decreased appetite
Facial itching or rubbing
Stiff gait
Preventing Hypocalcemia

For Pregnant and Lactating Dogs:

Supplementation: It's crucial to supplement your dog’s diet with calcium during pregnancy and lactation. Always consult your veterinarian for the appropriate dosage and type of supplement. Over-supplementation can also cause problems, so professional guidance is key.

Balanced Diet: Ensure your dog’s diet includes adequate levels of calcium and vitamin D. High-quality commercial dog foods are usually balanced, but homemade diets may require additional supplements.

If you notice any signs of hypocalcemia in your dog, contact your veterinarian immediately. Early intervention can prevent serious complications. Treatment may include calcium supplements or intravenous calcium in severe cases.

By understanding the risks and ensuring proper dietary and medical care, you can help prevent hypocalcemia in your beloved pets. Always remember, during pregnancy and lactation, additional calcium support is often necessary, so don't forget to supplement as advised by your vet. Your diligence can make all the difference in your pet's health and well-being.

🐾 Understanding and Treating Venereal Tumors in Dogs 🐾

Venereal tumors, also known as canine transmissible venereal tumors (CTVT), are a relatively common occurrence in dogs, especially those who are not spayed or neutered. These tumors are s*xually transmitted and primarily affect the ge***al areas of both male and female dogs. While they may sound alarming, there's hope! Here's what you need to know about their treatment:

1. Early Detection is Key: As with any cancer, early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Keep an eye out for any unusual growths or changes in your dog's ge***al area. If you notice anything abnormal, don't hesitate to consult your veterinarian.

2. Veterinary Examination: Upon noticing any abnormalities, schedule a visit to your vet. They will conduct a thorough examination, which may include a physical inspection and possibly a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

3. Treatment Options: Fortunately, venereal tumors in dogs are highly treatable. The most common treatment options include:

Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is often the primary treatment for CTVT. It's highly effective in shrinking and eliminating tumors. The duration of chemotherapy treatment can vary depending on the tumor's size and response to treatment.

4. Supportive Care: During treatment, your dog may experience side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite. Your veterinarian can provide supportive care to manage these symptoms and ensure your dog remains as comfortable as possible throughout treatment.

5. Preventive Measures: Spaying or neutering your dog not only prevents unwanted pregnancies but also significantly reduces the risk of venereal tumors. Additionally, practicing safe s*x for your dog by avoiding contact with unknown or infected dogs can help prevent transmission of the tumor.

6. Regular Monitoring: After completing treatment, it's essential to monitor your dog closely for any signs of recurrence. Regular check-ups with your veterinarian can help catch any potential issues early on.

Remember, every dog is unique, and the most suitable treatment plan will depend on various factors, including the tumor's size, location, and your dog's overall health. By working closely with your veterinarian, you can develop a tailored treatment approach to give your furry friend the best chance at a happy, healthy life. 🐶💕

16/04/2024

Heat stroke in dogs is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that can occur when a dog's body temperature rises to dangerous levels.
Dogs are unable to regulate their body temperature as effectively as humans, making them more susceptible to heat stroke, especially in hot and humid conditions.

Signs of heat stroke in dogs include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, and collapse. If you suspect your dog is suffering from heat stroke, it is crucial to act quickly. Move your dog to a cool, shaded area, offer them water to drink, and use cool (not cold) water to gradually lower their body temperature. It is important to seek immediate veterinary care as heat stroke can cause organ damage and even death if left untreated.

Prevention is key when it comes to heat stroke in dogs. Avoid exercising your dog in extreme heat, provide plenty of fresh water and shade, never leave your dog in a hot car, and be mindful of the temperature of surfaces like asphalt that can burn your dog's paws. By taking these precautions, you can help keep your furry friend safe and healthy during the hot summer months.

Quick facts about rabies 🔍

Contrary to what most believe, dogs and cats are NOT born with the rabies virus. Sa madali pong salita, HINDI LAHAT NG A*O O PUSA AY MAY RABIES NA KAAGAD.

Hindi po dahil stray animal, automatically may rabies virus na sila. At hindi po dahil indoor dog or may breed, ay ligtas na sila.

It is not inborn. It is contracted from other rabid animals through bites or through saliva (licking of wounds). Thus, it is crucial to have your pets vaccinated, para po ma-protect sila.

Free anti-rabies vaccines are given by city vets or animal welfare groups should you wish to avail of it. You can also go to your trusted veterinary clinics and have your pets vaccinated for a certain fee. MAY PARAAN PO PARA MABAKUNAHAN ANG ALAGA.

STRAY ANIMALS ARE NOT AT FAULT that they have to fend for themselves in the streets. We know they only exist because irresponsible humans do. So support your local animal welfare groups and/or LGUs during their free kapon and free bakuna initiatives.

Break the stigma. Read up, learn, and understand.

Most importantly, do not spread false information. It may not harm you directly, but it can definitely harm the defenseless and the voiceless.

25/03/2024

Recognizing signs of labor in dogs or cats is vital for ensuring the well-being of both the mother and her offspring. Here are key indicators that a caesarean section might be necessary:

1. Lack of Progress: If labor stalls for several hours without any puppies or kittens being born, it could signal an issue with delivery.

2. Persistent Straining: Continuous pushing without producing offspring suggests a problem that may require veterinary assistance.

3. Distress or Weakness: Signs like excessive panting, trembling, or collapse indicate complications and the need for immediate attention.

4. Green Discharge: Meconium, or green discharge, before or during labor indicates fetal distress, necessitating intervention.

5.Abnormal Birth Presentation: Breech or sideways presentation increases the risk of complications and may require assistance.

6.Prolonged Pregnancy: If the pregnancy extends beyond the expected due date without labor, it may necessitate a caesarean section to prevent complications.

If you notice any of these signs or have concerns about your pet's labor, contact your veterinarian promptly for assessment and appropriate action. Early intervention can ensure a safe delivery for your pet and her offspring.
