Why does my dog love to play fetch?

Ah, the eternal question! Why do our little punks go bananas for fetch? Well, it's like this: fetching taps into some primal instincts that make dogs go bonkers with joy.

First off, it's all about the chase. Dogs have an instinct to hunt and chase down prey and fetching satisfies that urge safely and playfully. When you throw that ball or stick, your dog sees it as their mission to track it down and bring it back triumphantly.

Then there's the whole bonding thing. When your dog brings the ball back to you, it's like they're saying, "Look what I did! Aren't I clever?" And when you throw it again, it's like a big reward for a job well done.

Dog owners always thinking about their furry friends

What's the key to keeping our punk dogs in top form? A proper diet, of course. We offer 5 varieties of kibble that provide all the essential nutrients for maintaining their punk spirit. Our kibble is made with real, high-quality ingredients and contains no artificial flavors or additives. Plus, it's grain-free and packed with protein, carbs, fruit, herbs, and veggies to give your dog a healthy and balanced diet.

But that's not all – we also add prebiotics and joint care supplements to our kibble for long-term health. Because we know that punk dogs may be tough on the outside, but they need love and care on the inside too.

Join us in standing out from the crowd and keeping our punk dogs in tip-top shape. Share your funny dog parent stories and healthy insights with us on our social media pages. And don't forget to visit our website at www.punkdogfood.co.uk to learn more about our recipes and read our punk dog blogs.

How much sleep does my dog need?

Having worked like a dog all day do you feel dog-tired or are you as excited and as a dog with two d**ks? We have so many dog analogies to do with energy, but is there a set amount of sleep our little punks need to keep this energy up? Well, just like us humans, it depends on a few factors like age, breed, and activity level.

Generally speaking, adult dogs snooze for about 12 to 14 hours a day. Puppies and seniors, on the other hand, may need a bit more, ranging from 18 to 20 hours. Yep, they're basically professional nappers!

But don't worry if your dog's sleep schedule doesn't match up exactly with these averages. Some little punks might be light sleepers, while others could snooze like logs. And hey, if your dog's a little night owl, just make sure they're getting their beauty rest during the day.

Keep an eye on their behaviour and energy levels. If they're bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when they're awake, chances are they're getting the right amount of sleep. And if they're a bit sluggish, maybe they just need a little more nap time.

So, let your dog do what they do best - whether that's chasing squirrels or perfecting the art of the doggy dream. After all, a well-rested punk is a happy punk!

Is owning a dog good for my mental health?

Absolutely! Owning a dog can be like having a personal, four-legged therapist. Here's the lowdown on why having a furry friend is top-notch for your mental health:

First off, dogs are experts in the art of unconditional love. No matter what kind of day you've had, your little punk will greet you like you're the greatest thing since sliced bread. That kind of love and acceptance can work wonders for lifting your spirits.

Then there's the whole stress-busting thing. Just spending time with your dog can lower your levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Whether you're snuggled up on the sofa or out for a walk in the fresh air, being in the company of a dog has a calming effect that's hard to beat.

Plus, dogs are great motivators. They're like little furry personal trainers, always ready to drag you off the couch and out into the world. And once you're out there, getting some exercise and soaking up the sunshine, you’ll get a boost to your serotonin levels which helps raise your energy levels and keeps you calm, positive and focussed.

And let's not forget about the social side of things. Having a dog is like having a built-in conversation starter. Whether you're chatting with other dog owners at the park or just exchanging smiles with passers-by, having a dog by your side can help you feel more connected to the world around you.

So, there you have it. Owning a dog isn't just good for your mental health - it's paws-itively brilliant! That’s a terrible pun, sorry (not sorry!)

Why should you play with your punk pup? The real question is - why wouldn't you?! 🤘🐕

Playing isn't just fun and games. It's mental gymnastics for your dog, keeping their brain sharp and senses keen. A stimulated pooch is a happy pooch!

It's also prime exercise time. Chase that squeaky toy, play fetch, and you'll both be working up a healthy sweat (or should I say pant?).

But most importantly, playing brings pure, unbridled joy. Seeing your dog's tail going a million miles per hour, their eyes shining bright, their tongue lolling out in bliss? It's contagious magic for the soul.

So next time you're stressed, grab one of their raggedy toys and let the games begin. You'll both feel like new punks after a rollicking good play sesh!

Book Now! – Paws on the Wharf to 16th May 2024

Here at Punk Dog Food, we make no secret of our love for Guide Dogs. Amazing good boys and girls who help people with sight loss lead independent and active lives. Since 1931 Guide Dogs for the Blind have been training little punks in the UK to help people with sight loss live the life they chose. Independence, that’s punk right?!

They have a new accessible and inclusive art trail to highlight their work, featuring larger-than-life guide dog sculptures around Canary Wharf, London. Each is decorated by an individual artist, five of whom have experienced sight loss. Free to attend and open 24/7 for those punks who shun the 9-5.

There are several events over the period (dog demos, we really want to see those dog demos!) culminating in a chance to buy the dogs (sculptures, not actual living dogs) by auction on 5th June 2024. Find out more information about the trail route, artists involved and work of the Guide Dogs for the Blind here https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/paws-on-the-wharf/

For those with sight loss, you can use the NaviLens app, order a large print trail map or braille guide or book on a sighted guide and sensory tour. For more information see here

Download your free trail map and discover the different ways to help you visit the trail and find the sculptures.

Introducing Insect-based Kibble

Insects? We’re kidding, right? Nope, no joke! Insect protein is the future! In the UK we’re behind the curve on using insect protein in our diet, because frankly, the idea of eating mealworms gives us the ick. But as an ingredient in high-quality kibbles, such as our Punk Dog Food Insect & Vegetable variety, they’re a game changer. As a sustainable protein, insects are the dogs’ boll**ks.

Now, is it good dog food? Absolutely! Insects pack a punch when it comes to protein, offering a complete amino acid profile that's essential for your dog's health. Plus, they're low in fat and high in nutrients like iron and calcium, which are vital for keeping those tails wagging and noses sniffing. This tasty veg & herb-filled recipe has been carefully formulated to provide all the essential nutrients and is a complete adult dog food. We’re proud to show you our ingredients on our website https://punkdogfood.co.uk/products/insect-based

But hold your horses, there's more! Insect farming is way kinder to the planet than traditional livestock farming. The mealworms in our kibble are farmed specifically for consumption, so they're safe for your canine companion.

As for the ick factor? Your little punk doesn’t ascribe to societal norms and conditioning, I mean, they like your dirty washing right? Our insect-based kibble is just as tasty and nutritious as all our other varieties. Punks aren’t afraid to step outside their comfort zone and do the right thing. It's the eco-friendly, dog-approved future!

Does your dog really understand you? 🐶💭

Follow, like and share. Visit us at www.punkdogfood.co.uk

They might not speak our language, but our furry friends are experts at picking up on the cues and signals we give them. From our tone of voice to our body language and facial expressions, dogs are finely tuned to read us in their own special way.

When you use that silly high-pitched "dog voice" to praise them, they know you're happy. And when you come home tired and slump on the couch with a sigh, they seem to just get that something's up and offer some warm snuggles.

Over years together, you and your pup develop your own unique language of quirks, habits and inside jokes that only you two understand. It's like you're part of a secret club!

So while Fido might not grasp every word that comes out of your mouth, he understands you on a deeper level that sometimes speaks louder than words. That's the beauty of the human-dog bond!

Fit as a butcher’s dog! Does having a dog improve my physical health?

Physical health isn’t just for fitness gurus, it’s for everyone who wants to be able to pogo for more than a minute or spend an evening in a mosh pit without feeling like you’re about to have some kind of cardiac event. Let's talk about how having a little punk can improve your fitness. Instead of having to endure a daily HIIT workout with a perky, shouty instructor, by having a dog, you have your own walking, running, barking, slobbering, bonkers personal trainer.

First off, let's tackle the obvious - exercise. When you've got a dog, you've got a built-in reason to get off your arse and get moving. Whether it's a brisk walk, a jog in the park, or a giddy game of chase in the garden, your little punk will keep you on your toes and help you stay in shape. And hey, who needs an expensive gym membership when you've got a furry fitness coach, who loves you the way you are and isn’t going to judge or side-eye your wobbly bits?

But it's not just about the cardio - having a dog can also help improve your overall physical health. Studies have shown that dog owners tend to have lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, and a reduced risk of heart disease compared to non-dog owners. Plus, the joy, laughter and sense of being loved that comes with having a canine companion can give your immune system a boost and help you feel happier and healthier overall.

So, there you are - having a dog isn't just good for your heart - it's good for your whole body! So go on, grab a lead, pull on your trainers (or 14-eyelet, 1914 DM’s) and get ready to embark on the greatest fitness journey of your life, with your little punk leading the way.
