Love is… A Second Chance ❤️
Our Pal's Place received a desperate plea from Cobb County Animal Services (CCAS) for help. The shelter was completely full and euthanizing for space would start in a mere few hours. Our Intake Team jumped into action and headed to CCAS to see what we could do to help.
The first on the shelter's kill list was Thor. He was a bigger boy who just needed to practice good manners. When our Intake Team took Thor outside to meet him, he stood for a long minute going to the bathroom (obviously housetrained) and then leaned on us for attention. Despite coming from a neglectful situation and being in the county shelter too long, Thor maintained an upbeat attitude and was very loving with us. We looked at each other and agreed there was no way we could let this boy be killed. That afternoon as the shelter was closing, we loaded Thor, Fig, Maggie, Nora and Mia into our transport van. The top of the kill list were now safe and enough spaces were opened in the county shelter that they did not have to euthanize.
On the first weekend Thor was with us, he met a family who was looking to add a new companion to their home. They clicked instantly! A Companion Match Form was submitted for Thor, now named Teddy, and within a week he was in his new home with The Sameit Family! A true story of going "from rags to riches"! All Teddy needed was a second chance.
Love is … Unwavering! ❤️
Harley came to O.P.P. from a veterinary hospital. A little different story than our normal rescues from death in county shelters… but similar in that Harley too was facing death.
Harley had been abandoned at the local veterinary hospital that ultimately adopted her as their clinic dog. Harley gave blood when dogs needed transfusions, was a surrogate mom for puppies in need and a best friend to the clinic staff. When the local hospital was bought out by a corporate veterinary hospital, they were told to get Harley out or euthanize her. A date was set by corporate and the local staff began working relentlessly to get Harley out. Their challenge was the time needed for Harley to warm up to men in the homes they tried and her disdain for cats. Unwavering in their commitment to their best friend, they contacted O.P.P. desperate for help as the deadline was upon them.
Once at O.P.P. Harley was terrified when her friends left. She had lived in the hospital for years with her best friends and now was uncertain where she had ended up. The next day her friends returned to comfort her and spent hours teaching her how to trust a single O.P.P. volunteer. Weeks later that volunteer taught Harley how to trust other volunteers. Today, Harley enjoys learning new things and sitting in laps! And to this day her best friends from the hospital check on her to ensure she is well. Together we remain unwavering in our commitment to Harley’s well being and ultimately finding her a home!
Love is…Friendship! ❤️
Some friendships are just meant to be! Our Pal's Place met Claud (pic right - formerly MJ) at Cobb County Animal Shelter. He was still on his stray hold, but given his breed popularity we wanted to get him out asap to ensure he went to a good home and did not end up being a fad adoption. Just about that time, one of our long-time volunteers, Colleen, and her husband, Bill, started looking for a companion. After thoughtful consideration and multiple in-home visits, these long-time O.P.P. supporters adopted Claud last February! Happy 1 Year Gotcha, Claud!
Fast forward to the end of last year, Our Pal's Place met Lucy Lu (pink harness - formerly Lulu) at Cobb County Animal Shelter. Because her skin and fur were in horrendous condition, we knew this girl would not make it out of the overcrowded county shelter without help. After a lot of TLC from our volunteers at O.P.P., veterinarian care from North Roswell Vet Clinic and healthy food, Lucy Lu started looking and feeling great! About that time, Colleen's next door neighbors decided it was time to bring home a companion. Colleen suggested they meet Lucy Lu and it was love at first sight!
Now, Claud and Lucy Lu are best friends, next door neighbors!
Ginger was such a good girl for her vet check-up that she got to go shopping and pick out a new toy! Everything is an adventure for Ginger. If you’re looking for someone to share life’s adventures with you, Ginger just might be your girl 🩷!
Fun-loving Ginger had a great day, even if it included a vet check-up! Ginger was so well-behaved that she got to pick out a new toy at Top Dogs Pet Boutique in Roswell. Everything is an adventure for Ginger, so if you’re looking for someone to share life’s adventures with you, Ginger just might be your girl 🩷!! Come meet her!
Harmony received a special Christmas reunion today!❤️🎅🏼
Harmony was adopted by Ralph years ago. She adores Ralph!! It’s been over a year since Ralph was diagnosed with cancer and she was returned to O.P.P. temporarily while he recovered. Just before Harmony was to return home, Ralph fell and broke his hip. This recovery has been long prohibiting Harmony from returning home anytime soon.
For Christmas today, we reunited Ralph and Harmony so they could see each other. Her eyes immediately lit up when she saw him and tears came to Ralph’s eyes. Ralph gave her a Christmas gift, a brand new bone, that she happily took!
Though a short reunion, the time they had together will be cherished by both. ❤️🎅🏼🎄
Late Friday night, Our Pal’s Place received a phone call from one of our contacts at Cobb County Animal Services. Friday night calls from CCAS aren’t usually good news: they were out of space and multiple dogs would be of time come Saturday morning.
Our team was on the doorstep of CCAS first thing Saturday morning prepared to meet the most urgent dogs on the “kill list”. Joining forces with advocates at CCAS as well as other rescues, we were able to answer the plea: no dogs were euthanized on Saturday 💙!!
Here’s one of the precious lives saved. She was in danger due to nothing other than lack of space. Meet Priscilla ❤️
P.S. As mentioned above, it takes a team of all of us working together to save lives: adopting, sharing posts, donating, volunteering, spreading the word about pet overpopulation, etc. Priscilla thanks you for being on her team!
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday! 💙🐶
This year our residents need a new heating/air unit. We just found out our current unit is unusable. The lowest estimate for a new unit is $10,000 which is from our trusted Our Pal’s Place Daycare, Boarding & Training client's business. No doubt that’s the best option!
Now we need to raise the money so the residents of our rescue and Pet Adoption Facility stay warm this winter! All Giving Tuesday donations will be used to help purchase a new heating/air unit.

Thanks for Giving!
Meet Maggie! 💙 Turned into the county shelter at the beginning of August, Maggie found herself in a very full, overwhelming shelter and was added to the kill list. Her previous person had health issues and could no longer care for her. Maggie was a county favorite and volunteers quickly discovered that she LOVES playing in water. After our intake team met her, we knew OPP could help this amazing girl. Maggie is a very loving, sweet girl and always has a beautiful smile on her face!
