Raziel

Raziel Raziel is a wild BLM mustang from Warm Springs HMA Oregon. He is 6 years old and 15.3 hands. He is my first mustang so it's a learning process for both of us!

He is also a total diva! This is his journey from wild to mild.

Hi all just a heads up that I will be deleting this page soon. Raz went to a new home back in June, with a young cowboy who thinks his spooky reactive antics are hilarious and has no problem working him 5+ days a week. So Raz found someone crazier than him. Currently he's at the kids trainer getting 3+ months of training to be a heading or heeling horse (ideally). While it was a learning experience, I'm glad it's over. Thankfully my second mustang Xena, is still his opposite and she's great. During her first ride she just looked at me asking why I was up there and went "whatever mom".

Well guys, pick up fell through a few times. So Raz is still here and available. If anyone knows a sanctuary, private or otherwise, who would be interested, please let me know! Or if anyone just wants a pasture pet!

Well guys, tomorrow should be the day that Raz goes to his new home. He has never really taken to domestic life, so he's going to go and live at a mustang sanctuary. While I think he could be trained, it would take the right person a lot of time, and he's happier being wild. We wish him well! Thankfully his "little sister" Xena, is still his polar opposite in every way and loves domestic life. Now if only she'd grow taller!

Raz says he's a good boy- and that he remembers how to pick up his feet and getting touched all over.

Raz is now open to offers, he'll need a slow, fresh start with an experienced mustang owner or trainer. He's 7 years old, 15.3 hands from Warm Springs. He's fully titled. He does respect fences and is also perfectly happy as a pasture ornament. He's located in central Arkansas, buyer will be responsible for hauling. He's gorgeous and has a ton of potential but we're just not a match.

Sorry for basically abandoning this page- but the truth is that I felt very discouraged. Raz needs more consistency than I can give him and truth be told, I'm a mare person. I've had to accept that after a year and some months, we just don't click. He is prone to regression if given time off. He might do better with a mustang trainer. However we just don't have a connection. In the time I've had him, I adopted another mustang, a filly. I bonded with her within a week, and I just don't think Raz and I are meant to be. So now I'll be looking for someone who wants Mr. HunkyDramaticButt. He's titled now. But while he's had his feet done, started on trailer loading, had a saddle on and blankets, and is actually pretty good about tying, he'll probably do best starting over with a new person. He's not a bad boy, but he is reactive and without a bond between us, training is circular.

"oh thanks mom, I hate it." Working on getting him used to scary things. This is of course after he ran headfirst into the gate part of the pen, scraping up his head and busting open the gate. Once he calmed down enough to think he realized it wasn't so scary. He even got okay with it flapping around. But he still didn't love me handling under his belly.

Sorry for the lack of updates- so here's one with today's story. I've been busy helping my parents prepare to move/sell their house and I finally got to go visit my husband (deployed). Naturally because of all that Raz has really regressed. He's going from mild back to wild lol. But today we had our first sliding stop! Well... I slid and stopped... Into the dirt and a fire ant nest. Raz kept going. So much for my new 30 ft lunge line and rubberized gloves for extra grip. Turns out he can be athletic when he wants to. Today I got my heart rate up my my neighbor driving over to tell me there was a horse in her yard. I freaked, thankfully it wasn't Raz. But he decided he doesn't like Bellamy today (I'm guessing cookie is going into heat) and he's being a total jerk to him. I was afraid he was going to make him jump the fence again. So I got Raz into a separate pasture and tried to catch him... He promptly panicked and jumped the fence to the pasture with the others, from a basic stand still. (Guess he was hiding that ability). Then I corralled him into my goat pen, which was much smaller and with taller fences. Finally convinced him he knew who I was and he let me pet him. Then i brushed his hair out to try to calm him down and get him used to me again (complete with spooking and running around). Then I got a halter on him and tried to lead him out of the pen on the lunge line.. I figured with 30 feet to work with I could get him stopped/circled.... Well like I said, he's apparently more athletic than he let on. So then he ran around the pasture while I walked after him (didn't want to put too much pressure on him and risk jumping another fence). After 15-20 minutes he was tired of running and finally let me catch him and lead him back to his original pen. Where he will be staying for a while. So he's a very unhappy boy today. But domestic perks come with a price. So live and learn. Raz says that he's definitely not the kind of horse who can get away without consistent work.

You know, I just can't tell if he's enjoying domestic life! 😉
