Wow, how time flies!
To reminisce on how time travels by so quickly is surreal; at times I feel as though everything is passing by so quickly that I don't have adequate time to soak it up but then there at times that seem to be crawling along. Both are to be cherished because before you know it, the moment is gone and your life is continuing on.
It is crazy to think that Hobbes joined our household not even five months ago. The imprint that animals have on our lives is indescribable.
Due to the craziness of life chugging along too quickly as described above, I have fallen short with continuing to post on this page. I figured now would be the perfect chance to catch up:
Where we last left off was when Hobbes first joined our home and was settling in. Settling in wasn't without its challenges though; FeLV + kitties can come with some challenges. Hobbes developed inappropriate urination shortly after we brought him home. A trip to the vet and weeks of troubleshooting this issue, it boiled down to Hobbes struggling with bladder inflammation and some confusion regarding litter box mannerism. After a few more weeks of adjustment Hobbes settled in beautifully.
Hobbes is the number one cuddler of the household and has been for a bit; he sleeps with us every night. He is very loving during night-time cuddles when he's feeling cozy. When he needs some extra lovings he likes to caress our face until someone arises enough to return the face caresses.
Hobbes chose his favorite toy very quickly when he arrived home which is a velvet red coil. He is a very mouthy guy and will walk around the house with his toys in his mouth but if you aren't careful, he will walk off with your socks. He has even stolen my bathroom bag with my tweezers in it!
It is hard to put such sweetness, innocence and beauty into words but to say Hobbes is loved is an understatement.
Unfortunately some FeLV + kitties struggle with health issues especially issues that may arise around 2-3 years of age.
When taken to the vet due to very slightly difference in behavior, Hobbes was found to have multiple masses growing throughout his abdominal cavity and intestines. For an FeLV + cat this was an issue potentially on the horizon since the beginning.
Hobbes will now be receiving supportive medical care until he can no longer remain comfortable.
Due to Hobbes being FeLV +, chemotherapy is not an ideal option based off of the end result being numerous health issues caused by his compromised immune system.
Our family was fueled by love after our first FeLV + kitty Calvin joined our lives which has created a need for us to help these kitties in need. Typically, FeLV + kitties are not able to be rehomed and in some cases, are euthanized once diagnosed. What we have learned from this adventure so far is that no life is worth limiting due to the excuse of an illness. Calvin and Hobbes has changed our lives as much as we were able to change theirs. This process does not go without a lot of education and an immense amount of heart break but we will keep pursuing this over and over again because one changed life is someone's entire life being given a chance.
To the animals that don't have a voice, we are here for you. And to the FeLV + angels that just need a chance to be loved, we will never stop fighting for you.
