At 8 weeks old, you can bring a puppy home, but there is a lot for them still to discover. Getting a puppy can feel overwhelming for you, but it's all a bit scary if you think about it from the puppy's point of view.
They've left their family and everything they know. It's important as a new puppy owner to remember that your puppy will need time. It can be easy to slip into the mindset that your puppy needs to know things now and fast, but giving your puppy a chance to relax and settle into its new environment will help you bond.
Getting stressed with puppy training and the new demands of owning a puppy is natural, but here are some tips that can help:
🐾Take a break, put your puppy in its crate or ask someone to take over for a while. Looking after a puppy takes a lot of time and focus, and you need some time to yourself.
🐾Sometimes, we can speak to puppies and dogs as if they understand us when they have no clue! Think about whether your puppy knows what you are asking or expecting. Has your puppy been taught what you're asking? Or are you expecting it to understand you too soon?

What are the breed groups in the UK?

Knowing about the breed group means you get an in-depth look at what they are bred to do and the typical behaviours of a breed.
There are some ways to fulfil these natural behaviours, for example:
🐾For diggers: A ball pit with scattered treats or a sandpit.
🐕Hunting/ tracking: Hide treats or toys around the house or outside to find.
⚽️Herding dogs: Fetch, hide-and-seek.

So you want to get a puppy, but then you think maybe we should get two. They'll be so adorable, they will have company and be able to grow up together.

Raising two puppies together could be a big mistake! ❌
Yes, they may seem adorable and like they are having a great time at first but getting two puppies means that you end up with two pups that rely on each other and could end up ignoring you.
Puppies individually need love, attention and training so that they can learn and bond with you. If your puppies are left to entertain each other and not provided with separate experiences, training, and socialisation, they can develop behavioural issues.
Breeders, trainers and vets don't recommend getting two puppies at the same time because of how difficult it can be to raise them correctly. If a breeder suggests you get an extra puppy, this is a sign that this breeder isn't responsible. No breeder will want or encourage someone to take two puppies.
