All breeders look different! There is no one size fits all with breeding, but responsible breeding to us means that breeders:

🐾Provide every dog with care and ❤️
🐾Preserve the parents' welfare.
🐾Health test all parents to avoid passing health conditions down to puppies.
🐾Register purebred puppies.
🐾Socialise puppies to give them the best chance to grow into confident dogs.

A lot of issues can pop up with puppies because they are over-tired. You may get a puppy who is excellent at taking themself for a nap, but others need naps to be encouraged. ⁠

Every puppy is different, but they have one thing in common they need a lot of rest and naps to help them grow and not be too cranky!

Let's talk puppies and patience. ⁠
At 8 weeks old, you can bring a puppy home, but there is a lot for them still to discover. Getting a puppy can feel overwhelming for you, but it's all a bit scary if you think about it from the puppy's point of view. ⁠

They've left their family and everything they know. It's important as a new puppy owner to remember that your puppy will need time. It can be easy to slip into the mindset that your puppy needs to know things now and fast, but giving your puppy a chance to relax and settle into its new environment will help you bond. ⁠
Getting stressed with puppy training and the new demands of owning a puppy is natural, but here are some tips that can help:⁠

🐾Take a break, put your puppy in its crate or ask someone to take over for a while. Looking after a puppy takes a lot of time and focus, and you need some time to yourself. ⁠

🐾Sometimes, we can speak to puppies and dogs as if they understand us when they have no clue! Think about whether your puppy knows what you are asking or expecting. Has your puppy been taught what you're asking? Or are you expecting it to understand you too soon?⁠

What are some things you can do to prepare for a puppy?

✅Look for a vet:
Research who is available in your area and read some reviews. Ask anyone local you know with dogs what their experiences have been.

✅Decide on your insurance:
Will you be putting money away, or do you need to find a company to pay monthly? This can be a bit confusing, so it will save a lot of time later if you get this out of the way early.

✅Find a local groomer:
Depending on your pup, they will be here a lot, so ask around and look for before and after photos 📸

✅Puppy proof your home:
We could all use some inspiration for a bit of spring cleaning, so now is an excuse to have a move around and move anything a puppy would want to get out of reach.

So you want to get a puppy, but then you think maybe we should get two. They'll be so adorable, they will have company and be able to grow up together.

Not so fast! ✋

Raising two puppies together could be a big mistake! ❌

Yes, they may seem adorable and like they are having a great time at first but getting two puppies means that you end up with two pups that rely on each other and could end up ignoring you.

Puppies individually need love, attention and training so that they can learn and bond with you. If your puppies are left to entertain each other and not provided with separate experiences, training, and socialisation, they can develop behavioural issues.

Breeders, trainers and vets don't recommend getting two puppies at the same time because of how difficult it can be to raise them correctly. If a breeder suggests you get an extra puppy, this is a sign that this breeder isn't responsible. No breeder will want or encourage someone to take two puppies.

A versatile breed, german shepherds are often seen doing police work but can also be therapy dogs.

For experienced owners, german shepherds can be a fantastic choice, but if you are looking for your first dog, you will probably find it a struggle keeping up with them!

Some breeds are more interested in sleepy days on the sofa, but every breed needs exercise to stay healthy and happy. Why do you want a well-exercised dog?

🐾 It helps you bond! Spending time doing their favourite things builds your relationship.

🐾 Fitness, for both of you 💪 daily walks can keep both human and pooch healthier.

🐾 Keeps them lean. One of the best ways to keep your dog feeling great is to make sure they aren't too chunky.

🐾 Reduces unwanted behaviours, a bored dog can get frustrated and look for things to chew...like those new shoes that you just left on the floor 👀

When you decide to get a puppy, you've got to make sure you're able to provide for your new family member, the phrase "A puppy is for life" is often used, but when it comes to different breeds, this can look vary. It's sad to think about, but considering the lifespan of different breeds is an important element in preparing for dog ownership.

Suppose you're thinking of owning a larger dog. In that case, it's a good idea to take an honest look at whether you are prepared for the time frame you will have with that dog, we all hope that our dogs will live long, happy lives, but as an owner, it's best from the start to know realistically how long you could have together.

Sometimes dental hygiene can be overlooked with dogs, you may give them a few dental chews, and all seems well until it’s too late. Keeping on top of those teeth with daily cleaning is the best method to keep your dog healthy, and doing this can increase a pet’s life expectancy- plus saves on teeth cleaning/ fixing if there are issues 💰

It’s better to prevent than fix, so we recommend you start early and be consistent 🪥🦷🐶

Like humans, all dogs need some attention given to their hair, so it looks it's best 💁🏻‍♀️

For some breeds, an occasional brush and they're good to go, and others require daily brushing and professional grooming.

With all breeds, though, if you don't keep up with grooming, they end up like us, with a bad hair day!

When deciding on a breed, it's important to keep in mind a breed's coat, grooming needs, and the costs that come with this so you know whether you will be able to commit to this long term.
