Yeast infections in dogs, huh? Super fun. Well, you can chill, because I've got some home remedies that may help manage your pup's discomfort. But remember, these remedies are not a substitute for proper veterinary care, so don't skimp on booking that appointment. Now, let's dive into the world of ye**ty trouble.

First things first, let's understand what yeast is. It's a funky fungus that loves warm and moist environments. In dogs, the most common culprit is Malassezia pachydermatis. This yeast is naturally present on the skin of all dogs, but sometimes it goes rogue and starts multiplying like crazy. Usually, there's an underlying reason for this overgrowth – think allergies, oily skin, or immune disorders. It's like a party for yeast, but not a jolly one.

Yeast infections can show up on your furry friend's skin or ears, or sometimes both at once. Good news, though – they're not contagious to humans or other animals. So, keep calm and don't start itching yourself.

Now, how can you spot these sneaky infections? Well, your dog might be scratching like there's no tomorrow, smelling a bit funky, or displaying redness and scaling in the ears. It's not a pretty sight, trust me.

So, what can you do to address the discomfort? Here are some home remedies, but remember, consult with a vet for the real deal:

1. Keep things clean and dry: Yeast thrives in moist environments, so make sure to towel dry your pup after baths or walks in the rain. No damp fur parties allowed!

2. Modify the diet: Some pups benefit from a low-carb, grain-free diet. It's like putting yeast on a diet – less fuel for the troublemakers. But usually yeast infections are caused by environmental allergies, not necessarily grain, so don't just go grain-free without chatting with your Vet about proper nutrition. You can always opt to add some coconut oil or fish oil to your pup's diet and this helps too.

3. Antifungal shampoos: Look for shampoos specifically designed to combat yeast infections. Lather up and rinse away those pesky fungi.

4. Ear cleaning: Gently clean your dog's ears with a vet-recommended solution. But be cautious, you don't want to end up with a grumpy pup.

5. Apple cider vinegar rinse: Dilute some apple cider vinegar in water, and use it as a final rinse after bathing. It's like a tangy spa treatment for your pup.

Stay vigilant, keep those doggies comfy, and keep that Dorito-smell away!

Back at the Vet! Now, it's Zuma's turn. She's had chronic allergies since she was a pup that cause small skin cysts, itchy paws, and ear infections, so we treat her with benadryl, anti-fungal/anti-yeast wipes on her paws, clean her ears regularly, and give her a full grooming every weekend to keep her healthy and happy. Well, the darn pup got a cyst that got massive since last w‍eekend and she bit it last night, and blood went everywhere. Cleaned it out and wrapped her tail to stop the bleeding over night. 🤦‍♀️

‼️Countdown is ticking away until the property is in probate and these pups have no where to go! ‼️

Loca and Lenna were such sweet pups to hang out with for a few hours last Monday! Lenna LOVES to play in water and has her own kiddy pools to splash in. I would love to see her with a family that gets her own indestructible stock tank to play in! 😆 And Loca, he's such a chill dude, happy to hang out nearby his humans and keep watch over everyone. ❤️

Share this post and let's find Lenna and Loca a foster or forever family! Tag someone you know that loves dogs! 🥰

🚨 URGENT: Lenna and Loca need your help! 🚨

Meet Lenna, a loving 2-year-old girl, and Loca, an experienced 5yr old working pup, who's looking for their forever home ASAP. Their temporary guardians can no longer keep them due to their owner passing away, and now the property is in probate and will be sold in a few weeks. Time has run out!

Lenna's story is one of resilience and hope. She's a bit shy at first, but once she warms up to you, she's a bundle of joy and affection, who truly needs companionship of humans and her pack! She's a unique mix of Spanish Mastiff, Pyrenean Mastiff, Great Pyrenees, and Akbash, weighing around 100 lbs.

Lenna has shown a natural inclination to be a guardian dog, but she needs some training to reach her full potential. We're looking for someone experienced in training, especially using positive reinforcement techniques, to help her on this journey.

Loca is a wise 5-year-old LGD who excels at protecting and nurturing livestock, including horses, goats, sheep, and chickens. Like many LGDs, Loca can be a bit reserved around strangers, but once he's introduced and knows you're a friend, he's your loyal companion who loves to hangout and chill nearby. His experience as a guardian makes him incredibly trustworthy when it comes to the safety of your farm animals, and he is content with staying out in the fields with the livestock with occasional snuggles by his humans.

Loca's only little quirk is that he's a bit of a fence jumper, so a secure yard or farm space is a must. If you've got the right setup, Loca could be the guardian your animals have been waiting for.

This is not a situation Lenna or Loca, and their temporary guardians expected, but we're willing to work with anyone who can potentially foster them. Rogue Redwing Farm & Guardian Dog Rescue will provide ongoing support, training, and resources to both Lenna and Loca, and their foster family. Together, we can ensure they get the care and love they both deserve.

Both pups have been working hard on their leash-walking skills and have shown great progress. Each are up spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. With the right family, they could be incredible additions. 🏡🐾

If you can open your heart and home to Lenna and Loca, or if you're interested in fostering, please reach out to us immediately. Let's work together to secure them a safe and loving future. Time is of the essence! 💕🐶

So important to remember!

So important to remember!

When we seek help for our dog's behaviour we tend to focus on stopping something unwanted.

Our aim is to make that behaviour go away.

But there's much more to it than that.

Dogs act how they do based on their feelings and their motivations.

They can’t tell us what either of those things are unless we know their language.

Unless we identify what they need.

Then work out another way to meet that need for them.

Ethically, we can't dive in to make the dog stop doing something.

We must start by watching and listening.

Learning from the dog.

Asking the following questions.

Who needs a fluffy snuggly girl like Honey?? She's adoptable and needs a home as soon as possible, looking for a family or farm experienced with the breed, and ideally looking for a farm for this girl! Honey would do great with space to roam as well as having a family for companionship. Sharing for her owner who reached out, link below.

Honey LOVES snuggles + is a great family dog!

Honey is about a year old and like any pup needs training and guidance to feel secure and confident, and with proper training + socialization, this will probably reduce her current need to bark. However, she is an LGD breed, a Great Pyrenees, and an Anatolian Shepherd, so barking comes with the dog. We can utilize many techniques to help her, and I will be providing training + support to her foster family or adopted family to help with the transition.

First weekend away from home since we took in Macy. Had a few rough patches but thankfully we have some great friends help take care of them while gone. ❤️

Poor girl, we found that she has another trauma trigger, and it's undoubtedly from her abandoned and chased while on the run. She just needed some space, then reassurance and reconnection. She was all smiles and hopped right over when we got home. 🥰
