With the heaviest of hearts, we said goodbye to one of the very first six horses we rescued back in 2022. Sweet Cami struggled with severe arthritis in her front pastern and coffin joints. The very first vet we saw told us there was nothing that could be done for her, and that the kindest option would be to put her down. But I couldn’t accept that.
When I was 30 years old, a doctor told me I would no longer be able to walk by the time I turned 40 because of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Today, I’ve proven them wrong. I found my own path to healing, and I’ve carried that same determination into how I care for our horses.
Cami was the very first horse I was able to help. Thanks to MobileVeterinary Practice and alternative treatments, including joint injections and more, she was given four beautiful extra years. Years filled with love, friendship, and joy.
But those years weren’t just about surviving. They were about living. Cami thrived in the company of so many wonderful friends, both human and equine. She got to experience love, companionship, safety, and joy. She reminded us daily of the resilience of the spirit and the power of refusing to give up hope.
In the end, though, her brave body had simply given all it could give. No matter how much love and care we surrounded her with, the time came when holding on would have meant more suffering. As painful as it was, we knew the kindest, most loving choice was to let her go peacefully.
Saying goodbye was incredibly hard, but I take comfort in knowing that her life mattered and that she left this world surrounded by love. Cami’s story is one of courage, second chances, and the incredible bond between humans and the animals we care for. She will always be a part of the heart and foundation of our rescue.
Run free now, sweet Cami—you’ll never be forgotten.
