Puppies are always fun.

Consistency is the key.

Lucy is a rescue from Bosnia who was found with a litter of puppies.

Her humans reached out because they were having trouble with Lucy’s lead walking and barking at dogs and squirrels. Which is a super tough one when you live in East London.

We started off working on her general engagement, whilst creating a solid management and enrichment plan to make sure that all sides were covered. We also investigated pain and spoke to the vets about all our options.

Whilst her walking has improved a huge amount, we still struggled with her arousal levels in unknown spaces and any novelty being added to her walks. Slowly slowly we have increased the amount of newness added to her walks, and worked on ways to help Lucy manage her arousal, as well as having some cues in our back pocket for emergencies!

It’s been a joy working with her mum and dad, and Lucy has made so much progress already. I can wait to see how she keeps growing as we keep on!

It’s time to play detective. Television is full of people showing us how happy their dog is, with very little care for if they’re actually happy. From acting in dramas, to using them as props for our own success, we as humans (let alone dog professionals) must do better.

When Gracey first started showing reactive behaviour, I was so lost on how the hell to manage this whilst living in the centre of a big city. Lots of the training advice spoke about skipping walks and only doing garden visits, taking decompression walks in the forest, or hiring a secure field. All of which were impossible to do on a regular basis.
But having a reactive dog in the city is possible. It takes time and planning and is completely exhausting sometimes, but you can do it!

These are my top tips for having decompression days when you live in an urban environment.

PUPPIES

It’s hard enough having a puppy, but when you have a puppy and a busy life, it can be A LOT!

Maggie’s mum runs a busy studio and is dreaming of an office dog, but anyone that’s met a terrier puppy will know, they like to play and bite and tug. So we’re working on helping Maggie settle as well as making sure she’s given plenty of outlets for those instincts.

Wee Gus hit adolescence hard, but his humans have been smashing our multi approach to helping him calm down a bit! We’ve worked on his enrichment and management for the reactions, and then we’ve added in a bit of settle to encourage more rest at home and also the foundations of our reactivity training.

This was feedback from this weeks check ins, and I can wait to see his progress!

2025 brings an update to how I work, all new clients will join a monthly membership plan that allows us to focus on progress without a specific time goal. Saying that a client should buy 4 or 6 sessions has often led to frustration if the desired outcome doesn’t appear in the set amount of time, or finding that a good management plan means that a batch of 6 sessions isn’t actually needed! Whereas a monthly membership plan means more opportunities to adapt and adjust goals.

Ive got a few spots open for January still, so jump on a discovery call and we can get started!
