We got the funds!!! We just paid her bail and will pick her up tomorrow!

šŸ„•200šŸ„• raised so far! Still need šŸ„•1000šŸ„•

I feel so heartbroken, angry, and completely betrayed. Something I thought never would happen, has actually happened. One of our horses was taken to an auction by her adopter. And she ended up back in the kill pen. Our beautiful Lexi is sitting back in the one place she should never have had to see again! This is unacceptable and we need to do whatever we can to help her!! The lot has set her bail at šŸ„•1200šŸ„• because of her value as a recipient mare šŸ˜”
We need financial help and a permanent place for her to go. Is anyone willing to help Lexi?

Thank you to everyone who helped guide me to the Standardbred Foundation, in regard to the two neglected horses at the kill lot. I have connected with the rescue and we are working VERY hard to pay the bail of both horses!!

I know several of you have messaged me offering to help with donations, so here are the links created through Standardbred Foundation where you can assist with bail (pulling the horses from the kill lot) and their rehab fee!

I will gladly keep you all updated on the journey of these two angels!! THANK YOU!!!!!

Update on Sangria Beach! Weā€™ve raised $300 for his bail, but are needing another $400 šŸŽšŸŽšŸŽšŸŽ until he is SAFE from slaughter.

I hate to say this, but Sangria is looking worse and worse by the day šŸ˜ž Iā€™ve been visiting him daily, and he looks to be in relentless pain.

PLEASE PLEASE, if you can spare anything, letā€™s help poor Sangria to safety so we can get him assessed by a vet ā¤ļø

****Video in the comments****

As previously introduced, I came across two tattooed senior Standardbreds rotting in a pasture far away from other "private sale" horses. This particular pasture was full of "direct ship" horses, which means someone paid the kill lot to strictly ship these horses to slaughter, with no hope of being rehomed šŸ˜ž

Hearing this broke my heart. "Why wouldn't someone at least give these horses the opportunity to be advertised?" I asked. The response to this question was even more grotesque, "some people don't want their name out there, or for the horses to be traced back to them". Ugh...

I went back to the kill lot today to take a video of the two Standardbreds that didn't even have mane's or tails, but instead a matted infestation of burs. What makes me so sad is that at one time, both of these horses were bread and raised to be champions in their racing industry. They were groomed daily, fed the best feed, vet care on standby for any reason, and perhaps at one point maybe even loved? Now these horses are in their mid 20's, starved, Lord only knows where they've been the last decade, and now awaiting their death sentence tomorrow.

One of the Standardbreds, whom a dear friend of mine was able to identify as "Sangria Beach" is currently in a heaping amount of pain. After hours of discussing back and forth with my felling equine folks, it's been decided to transport Sangria to the vet for an exam, and see what his options are with a leg as bad as his. If we can treat his leg and nurse him to health, well that will be absolutely wonderful, however, then the question is, where does he go? Who can sponsor him? Board him? Care for him? Adopt him? There are a lot of variables in this equation.

Then we have Sangria's buddy, Dingalingaling, whom for short and out of respect, I will refer to him as Dingo. Just by my looking at him, Dingo seems to be in better health. His head doesn't hang super low like Sangria's does, and him body seems to be in much better health/condition. Obviously only a vet can confirm this. I am not a vet.

Our goal is to pull both of these horses, but we absolutely need YOUR help. If you are able to donate towards any of the costs below, PLEASE let us know. Thank you.

Bail for Sangria Beach: $700
Bail for Dingo: $700
Transport fee to vet: $50
Vet Exam fee: $45

If you can help, please direct message.

Thank you!

This is Sangria Beach. Heā€™s a 24 year old Standardbred, and now that his racing days are over he has found himself at the Stroud kill pen. To make things worse, heā€™s injured and can barely walk. The vet thinks he is treatable, but heā€™ll need a chance. As you can see heā€™s in rough shape. Our goal is to be able to pull him to give him a chance at a better life. As Twisted Oaks has closed its doors, funds would be needed to not only bail him but also provide boarding as well. Or if someone is willing to give him a permanent home, we would be willing to help fundraise partial bail.

His brother is at the kill pen with him. Heā€™s in better shape, but since both horses are ā€˜direct shipā€™, we donā€™t have much time to help them. Can anyone step up and help us help these two beautiful guys? Video in comments. More pictures to come.

Apples needed for each horseā€™s bail is šŸŽ700šŸŽ

Dear Twisted Oaks Equine Rescue followers,

As this rescue closes itā€™s doors and dissolves the 501c3, a new opportunity is born.

My name is Natassia, and I sat on the board of Twisted Oaks and assisted Alysse is several of the more recent pulls, as well as the recent mercy euthanasia at the kill lot. Alysse has graciously and very trustingly allowed me to rebrand her closed rescue, and carry on her legacy in the Equine world.

Prior to closing, Twisted Oaks focused on rehabilitating and rehoming neglected and abused horses, which was a major success thanks to all of you guys! Horses were saved, nursed back to health, loved on, learned to trust humans again, and in time were found loving forever homes ā¤ļø We canā€™t thank you all enough for your generosity and dedication to our mission!

As much as Iā€™d love to take over the old Twisted Oaks and continue rescuing, the truth is we just donā€™t have the land or resources at this time. What we do have however, is passion to continue doing the RIGHT thing for these horses, many that donā€™t have a chance of being rescued due to their health or inability to rehome. We want to start thinking about the direct ship to slauhter horses that never get advertised for private sale, or the horses that are blind, broken legs and canā€™t walk and deserve mercy, instead of a horrific fate to the slaughter in Mexico.

We may not have the place to rehabilitate, but there is a big need to help the horses that donā€™t have a chance, and are headed to slaughter. With that being said, Iā€™d like to announce that Twisted Oaks will be focusing on this type of purpose. Letā€™s help horses that are suffering on the kill lot awaiting their excruciating miserable journey to Mexico, and gently assist them to cross the rainbow with dignity and peace. I believe itā€™s the least we can do for these majestic animals that have been discarded like trash šŸ’”

We have now reached the full amount. Atlas will finally have peace tomorrow.

We are so close!! Weā€™ve raised nearly 2/3 of what we need. Another šŸŽ330šŸŽ is all thatā€™s needed to show Atlas some compassion.

We are now being told that this gelding is set to ship this coming WEDNESDAY!! Time is off the essence to keep him from suffering that terrible fate.

With PayPal fees included, we now have šŸŽ570.38šŸŽ So we still need šŸŽ329.62šŸŽ We are over halfway there!

We have been contacted about a horse that desperately needs to some mercy. He is currently on a kill lot and has suffered from a shattered shoulder.
There is no hope for this poor boy, but we can offer him one last act of kindness and not a long painful trip to Mexico.

We are trying to raise enough to pay his bail as well as have him laid to rest. šŸŽ900šŸŽ are needed.
If you are willing to help, you can make donations to our PayPal:

These last few weeks have been bitter sweet around here as weā€™ve watched the last of the horses headed to their new homes. Itā€™s a big change for us after the last 2 1/2 years. We will still have Applejack and Aspen here with us, but itā€™s not quite the same. On one hand itā€™s a relief to be able to breathe a bit and work on our personal lives, but on the other, itā€™s heartbreaking that we wonā€™t be helping as we once were.
We have been blessed to have been able to help as many horses and donkeys as we were able to. I think about them often. I can clearly remember the first time meeting each and every one. The first steps off the trailer in to freedom and safety. We havenā€™t been able to save every one weā€™ve taken in, but weā€™ve been able to give them some peace and comfort in their final days.
Since we took in our first rescue, Applejack, in March 2020, we have been able to help 23 horses and donkeys. Each and every one of them still has a special place in my heart and in my thoughts.

We have a little over $300 left to pay to the vet in the rescues name. We are in the process of selling most of the excess supplies to help cover that bill. Once all sold and bills paid, we will filing our paperwork to officially dissolve our 501c3.

It has been an absolute honor and a blessing to have been able to do what we have done, and to have been able to meet so many wonderful, caring people along the way.

We will be keeping the page open so the stories wonā€™t be lost. We will also post any updates we receive about the horses who have been adopted.

I know some of you would love an update on Natassiaā€™s little orphan, Sawyer.

Here is what she recently posted:

ā€œFor a brief moment, Sawyer was his old self again today. He galloped around the pasture like he was a sassy racehorse. Of course in Sawyer fashion, he was bucking in the air and squealing with glee. After several days of grieving, it was nice to see him perk up a bit. This brought a smile to my face.

I want to take a moment and thank all my amazing and wonderful friends, whoā€™ve been incredibly kind and supportive during such a challenging week. I love you all so much ā¤ļøā€

Our sweet old lady, Saorcha, went to join Sawyer and she has been an amazing grandma to him. Sheā€™s been teaching him lots of respect and how to be a good boy while helping him overcome the grief of losing his mama.
We are still fundraising to help provide a little extra support for Natassia, her family, and sweet baby Sawyer during this difficult time.
If anyone is interested in donating, you may do so through Sawyerā€™s Fund:

We have another request of everyone. Weā€™ve found someone to bury sweet Merlot, but now her c**t could use a helping hand.
With the financial strain of a sudden large vet bill, getting new feed for him will be a bit of a struggle. If anyone has an extra bag of Equine Junior or milk replacer pellets to help out until their next payday it would be so greatly appreciated!

10/08/2022

Iā€™m putting out a desperate plea to all our followers. Our dear friend Natassia just lost her beloved mare this evening to a sudden and severe case of colic. The mare leaves behind a 3 month old c**t šŸ˜¢

She has a steep bill for an after hours emergency call to have her euthanized, and to pay another hefty fee on top of that to have her hauled off is going to be a major struggle. We have a place we can bury her, but we need help with the actual burial. If anyone knows of anyone willing to help, please let us know! We would be forever grateful.

Update!! Weā€™ve hit our 30 entry goal!!! Letā€™s see if we can make it to 40!

We have about 5 days until we draw our winner!!
We are 1 spot away from our initial goal of 30 entries! We would love to surpass that goal!!!
The proceeds from this raffle will be going directly towards our remaining vet bills, which are now down to $346.75.
We ask that you share our post far and wide! We want to make this the biggest fundraiser weā€™ve had so far. Help us go out with a bang!

We will be drawing our winner live on Facebook Saturday at noon, at the River Valley Market in Wellston. You do not need to be present to win.

Any funds we might raise over the amount of our vet bills will be donated to another local rescue.

If youā€™d like an entry, or a few, just let us know! We are more than willing to meet for cash donations, or you can send it through my personal paypal(trying to keep from losing a big chunk to fees!) https://www.paypal.me/abeattie7?locale.x=en_US

We are still working on paying off our last vet bills. Weā€™ve been trying to sell this saddle without much luck šŸ˜ž So, we thought weā€™d ask. Would anyone be interested in entering a raffle for it??? $10 a spot. We would need at least 30 entries(hopefully more) to draw for it. Let me know what yā€™all think!!

It is a 1970ā€™s Big Horn New Hawkeye saddle. Some cosmetic flaws in the seat, but overall this is a nice saddle. Built to last!! We will be working on it a bit more, getting it cleaned up.

Edit! Iā€™m going to go ahead and start a list! Just let me know if you want a spot or a few! I will collect payments before we draw or you can send it beforehand if youā€™d like to our PayPal https://www.paypal.me/abeattie7?locale.x=en_US

27/07/2022

Our beautiful Keely Fae is still looking for her forever home. We had a couple people interested, but unfortunately due to certain circumstances they did not work out.
She is a sorrel quarter horse mare, estimated to be in her mid to late teens, with an old tendon injury that causes her to knuckle over at her fetlock. She has adapted to her leg and is even able to trot and run with it.
Keely just needs a place where she can roam and be a horse for the rest of her days. She is not sound to ride or breed, and is a companion ONLY mare.
She prefers to be out in a large open field, and hates being confined to smaller spaces. We know that once we lose access to the 70 acres sheā€™s on currently and go back down to 2 acres, she will be incredibly unhappy.
Keely is an easy keeper. She is currently keeping fat and sassy on pasture with just a small scoop of a basic feed to give her some electrolytes.

Are you willing to give Keely the home she deserves?

Please contact us for more information.

Saorcha was finally able to get her teeth done!

With her age and previous weight we were nervous to have to sedate her. And the last attempt she had come down with some sort of infection šŸ˜©
Her infection has pretty well cleared and sheā€™s at a safer weight, so we were given the go ahead to have her done!
Her poor teeth were awful šŸ˜ž big waves and a couple huge points, but now she is close to straight! Or as close as she can get šŸ˜Š
Now it should hopefully be easier for us to put more weight on her.

As we get closer to closing, Iā€™ve been going through a lot of stuff and have a lot that we wonā€™t be needing anymore.
We will be selling all surplus items to help pay off our final vet bills. Our vet bill currently sits at $440, and will be going up tomorrow when Saorchaā€™s teeth get floated finally!

We can ship items, or meet in Chandler or Wellston(can deliver to surrounding towns if we have enough items going to that area)

I will start posting in the comments, and add as I find more!

Fern went to her new home on Sunday. She joins another of our former rescues, Misty.
Scotch the little palomino gelding went to his new home yesterday and is joining Whiskey!

We have 2 remaining that need their forever homes, Keely and Saorcha.

Keely is a mid to late teen sorrel quarter horse mare that really deserves a home where she has room to roam and explore. She hates being confined to smaller areas. She would be a good companion for another horse, or would even be happy with cattle! She hasnā€™t been in with cattle since weā€™ve had her, but she has been next to them, and she loves to visit with them. She is a fairly easy keeper, and only gets a ration balancer currently. She will never be sound, as she has an old tendon injury that causes her to knuckle over at the fetlock.
Keely may require surgery in the future to release that tendon.

Saorcha is a senior bay Arabian cross mare, estimated to be close to 30. Saorcha is such a feisty thing and is just over all a sweet, wonderful old lady. She is still in need of some weight, and teeth work(which we will have done before she leaves us. It was postponed once due to her developing a mild infection). Once her teeth are floated her weight gain should really take off. She does have a bit of a droopy lip on one side from prior nerve damage to one side of her face. It does not affect her, other than she likes to hold food in her lip for later šŸ˜„
Saorcha loves to be groomed and loved on. You could spend all day braiding her beautiful mane and tail!
Saorcha needs a good retirement home to spend the rest of her days in comfort.

If you are interested in either Keely or Saorcha, please contact us for more information. We are located in Chandler, OK.

Rogue and Apache just left for their new home together! And Fern will be headed to hers tomorrow! Scotch will be going to his home very soon as well. Our friend Natassia will hopefully be able to take Saorcha soon. That leaves only Keely still looking for her forever home. As happy as I am that we are finding everyone homes, Iā€™m also a bit sad. This is the finish line folks. While we may try again at a later date, this is the end for now. Itā€™s been a long, hard road but not one I will ever regret.

15/07/2022

We have thought long and hard about this, and have decided to try to find Keely the perfect home. We will definitely keep her if the perfect home isnā€™t found, but we want to her and any potential adopter the opportunity to connect.
We will be loosing access to a large amount of acreage this fall, and will be back down to 2 acres. Keely thrives on having her space. She gets stressed in small paddocks and cranky on less than 4-5 acres šŸ˜‚ She was always pinning her ears at us on the lease property, but since having a large space to roam she has been so happy. No ear pinning whatsoever!
Keely is honestly a fairly easy keeper. She only gets a ration balancer currently and is maintaining her weight well.
She does have an old tendon injury that causes her to knuckle over. She has adapted well to it and gets around fine. She loves to run and trot! She will only be sound as a companion.
There may be the possibility that Keely will require surgery down the road to release that tendon. We want potential adopters to know that before making any decisions.
She is a very good girl, and just wants to spend her days roaming and grazing.

If you are interested in adopting Keely please contact us for further information.

The test results came back in and Apache does have EPM. We are getting treatment started, but it will be costly. We were quoted $800 by our vet. We have found another online pharmacy where we can order it from, but itā€™s still going be about $110 a week for a month.
If anyone would like to help cover the cost of his medication we would be more than grateful!

We havenā€™t had a single application put in for FernšŸ˜¢ She is such a sweet girl and deserves a wonderful home. I know it sounds like a lot of upkeep for her but itā€™s not really. A couple scoops of supplements in her feed every day and a little fly spray that takes just a few minutes to apply.
We will even offer her at a discounted adoption rate. We will still require an application and our reference check. ļæ¼She just needs a loving place to spend her remaining years.

URGENT PLEA! We are in desperate need of hay for our animals here at the ranchā€¦as you all know we are in the middle of a drought and that is severely depleting our options for hay! We have the opportunity to order 40 round bales of hay RIGHT NOW! But we are low on fundsā€¦.we are looking to raise at least $2,600 so that our horses, goats, and sheep all have enough hay to get us through the rest of 2022. Your donations can help us achieve this goal! You can donate by clicking below or donate via PayPal at PayPal.me/sgrmeeker. We appreciate anything our amazing supporters can do! You all are awesome! ā¤ļø

Like Fern, Saorcha is also looking for a wonderful retirement home. Donā€™t let her age fool you! She may be close to 30, but she has got a lot of s***k and sass!
Saorcha is still working on gaining weight, but has come incredibly far in the 4 months that weā€™ve had her, having gained close to 200lbs. She will be getting her teeth floated soon(after a delay due to her developing a mild infection, which is being treated) After that the weight should pack on quickly!
She loves attention! She has beautiful main and tail that you could spend all day braiding if you wanted šŸ˜Š
Sheā€™s well halter broke, stands tied, is great during bath time, stands for the farrier, and trailers decently.
She has a bit of arthritis in one knee that can flare up if she over does it, but otherwise sheā€™s in pretty good shape for a senior.
One side of her face is partially paralyzed due to nerve damage, but it doesnā€™t affect her other than a bit of a droopy lip where she stores a bit of feed for later at times šŸ˜„

If anyone is interested in adopting Saorcha, please fill out an application on our website www.twistedoaksrandr.org/adoption-process

This sweet old girl is Fern.
Fern is an advanced senior(mid to late 20s) mare that is looking for a nice home to retire in, or just to lead the kids or grandkids around on occasionally.
Fern hasnā€™t had an easy life. The day we contacted the lot about paying her bail and transport her here, she foaled. Her little c**t, Lucky, was premature and wasnā€™t noticed until hours after his birth. He fought his hardest, but only lived to be about 24 hours old.
Fern herself was in terrible shape. Emaciated and covered in wounds and scars. We didnā€™t even know the extent of her condition until she arrived, as the only video we had of her was her being ridden on the lot.
She has had her ups and downs here as well. She is a cribber and prone to ulcers. Weā€™ve fought with her weight the last couple months, and she is finally starting to gain better. She needs a quiet place, and unfortunately that is not here right now with horses coming in and out. She also has an allergy to insect bites, so will need to be on antihistamines and have fly spray applied regularly or a fly sheet.
Fern is broke to ride, but only light riding for her. She is one that will do what you want. She leads, loads, stands for the farrier, stands for fly spray. You can walk up to her with no halter and throw a fly sheet or blanket on her. She is by far the best behaved horse we have. She doesnā€™t like anyone near her when eating, so will need to be fed separately. It stresses her if anyone is even close to her.
She will be sent to her new home with a 2-3 weeks worth of omeprazole to reduce the chance of ulcers from the move, and her remaining antihistamines.
So many have over looked Fern because of her advanced age, but she still has some good years left in her and just wants a family of her own to love on her.
