As Christmas is fast approaching, many may make the impulsive decision to gift a hamster as a present to someone else. A pet may be an excellent addition to a home. However, living, breathing animals are more than just gift ideas for Christmas, birthdays, or other special occasions.

Taking care of animals is a huge responsibility, and they should never be given as gifts carelessly. Many individuals who receive animals as gifts realise that, no matter how much they want to, they are unable to make the long-term commitment to caring for their new animal companion. Animals deserve the greatest lives possible, but being given as a gift reduces the likelihood of that happening.
An important part of the process of getting a pet is is for the pet parent to fully understand and be prepared for the responsibility. Every animal deserves a pet parent with the time, energy, money, and enthusiasm to welcome them into their lives. Despite this, many people get "disposable pets” like hamsters as gifts without giving much consideration.

Consider what would happen if the time, money, and energy commitment you imposed on the recipient grew to be too much for them to handle. A bad match could result in the animal being abandoned, abused, or neglected, and having a low quality of life.
Pets come with effort, a long-term commitment, vet fees, and so a pet should never be an impulsive gift. Animals are vulnerable, living, breathing beings deserving of more than fleeting attention as a gift-wrapped surprise.

Ano ang qualification at proseso ng pag-aadopt ng hamster sa Hamdoption?

Hindi lahat ng hamster sa center na-aadopt.

This is GB, He has been with us since January 2022. Pina-adopt na nasa 8 months old na. Hindi na siya napa-adopt for the reason na very aggressive na siya towards human interaction. Palagi nang nangangagat possible dahil he lost trust sa kanyang previous owner. So we have decided not to let him be adopted. After 11 months, namatay siya under our care. Nakaka lungkot dahil hindi lahat ng hamster sa aming center ay na-aadopt and ito ay isa sa mga example. Rest assured na binibigay namin ung best namin para ma-adopt sila at mabigyan sila ng maayos ng buhay habang sila ay nasa amin.

We also need your help to promote adoption para may mga loving owners na mag take in sa kanila.

There has been an increase of owners surrendering their hamsters because they are now "Busy na sa school / Papasok na ulit sa work." Pet keeping is a responsibility and life-long commitment. Hindi lang basta basta pwedeng iabandon ang inyong pet dahil "busy."

We do understand that everyone has priorities-- but as a pet owner, hindi ba't dapat kasama (o nangunguna) sa ating list of priorities and responsibilities ang buhay ng ating pets / hamsters?

Also, please don't downplay your neglect by saying "Hindi po ako irresponsible na owner, kaya ko nga ibibigay sa Hamdoption eh." In the first place, irresponsible act na ang pag-aabandon ng pet: krimen po ang pag-aabandona ng hayop. (Republic Act No. 10631, Section 7).

If you are, indeed, a "pet lover", you would have planned and had foresight sa mga activities mo BEFORE even getting a hamster. Panindigan po natin ang ating commitments, if not, then this only reflects kung sino tayo, sa paraan ng pag-aalaga o pag-aabandona natin sa mga hamsters. They became companions and helped us get through the tough times of the pandemic. The least we can do is give them the best life.

Tandaan, 2 years lang po ang lifespan ng hamster. If you cannot make a commitment for this short amount of time, then please, DON'T GET ONE.
