We've had a request for a cavaletti pole training class for dogs. Dog training equipment (like everything else) has become more expensive recently. This article has some creative ideas for constructing home equipment with minimal expense.

Thursday, 4/4 is the final night of our Enrichment Hour class. We saved Trick Dog training for last because of its flexibility and applications to other dog sports. If your dog has ever gotten bored waiting to go into the ring or standing in line, we have some suggestions for you. A couple remaining spots are available for drop-in from 7-8 PM for $15. This training is suitable for all ages. We can test for AKC titles. Message us if you are interested because space is limited.

Do you and your dog love to be the life of the party by showing off his arsenal of tricks? Then he might be perfectly primed to earn AKC Trick Dog titles!

Fetch titles are one of the 11 categories of AKC titles required for the FIT DOG Gold title. If your dog will retrieve a ball, bumper or toy 3 times - 1 each to the right, center and left with distractions, this is a really fun title for you to consider. If you choose a trial with 2 tests in 1 day, you can earn your FTN in a single day. We'll have a Fetch title presentation after our next meeting for interested members.

Just finalized our schedule for the Enrichment Hour class starting 3/14: Week 1 - FIT DOG, Weeks 2 & 3 - Scent Work and Week 4 - Trick Dog. It should be an interesting and fun evening out for owners and their dogs. Everyone can work at a pace best for their team.

Rally is a great sport for the active or retired conformation dog - there are no automatic sits! Just train using a different collar/lead and store your training treats in pockets on opposite sides. Our Intro to Novice Rally class starts this Thursday (3/14) and our Intermediate/Advanced class starts 4/11. Outdoor run-throughs suitable for submission for AKC titles are offered following the classes at no additional charge for registered students.

We all need to "get out of the house" and so do our dogs. Park nature centers have enrichment programs for their turtles, so of course responsible dog owners want to keep their dogs mentally healthy too. Back by popular demand, we are again offering a 4 week Enrichment Hour class. Last session we had intro classes in scent work, FIT DOG and Trick Dog. Some of the handlers learned a few new "tricks" too! Our emphasis is having a fun night out with our canine companions.

Is your dog "left-pawed" or "right-pawed"? Dogs, like people, definitely prefer one side over the other. A quick way to find out your dog's side preference is to teach "Shake a Paw" or "Spin Right/Spin Left". At our Level 2 class this week, we continued to observe side preferences when we introduced the more advanced exercises of "Stand and Give Paw with Front Elevated" and "Pivot over Object". We saw more evidence of why it's so important to work both sides of your dog for improved balance, stabilizers and proprioception. #

Training classes reminder: Our second 4-week Winter session starts tonight (2/8). Conformation starts at 7PM and Level 2 FIT DOG starts at 8PM. We have two instructors for our Conformation class so we can support beginners in the sport interested in learning how to get started and seasoned exhibitors looking for run-throughs.
