This is a re post of a post that was made on Dec 7th, 2020 on this page about affiliations.

This fundraiser has actually gotten some push back from potential donors due to dislike for the shelter. Just want to remind everyone that the shelter is not running this fundraiser and I'm not an employee there. I work for the animals alone. This fundraiser is for them, not for the shelter. The shelter will also not be handling any of the money from this fundraiser. It comes directly to me and then directly to the online purchase of Kuranda beds. It's not the animals' fault that the shelter isn't the best. And the animals don't belong to the shelter, they belong to the community. Don't punish them, work to make it right and make the animals' lives a little better.

Cheaper Kuranda Bed Option

We have found another organization that gets Kuranda crate style beds and sells them at a much lower price than the wide framed beds. You can order directly from there and donate to Abilene Animal Shelter and have it shipped directly. Please only select the medium and large sizes. Their XL is too big for our kennels here. The medium and large are the same size as those listed on the main Kuranda site that our shelter needs. We will still need the smaller size and cat beds from the main Kuranda site, as they do not make crate style in those sizes.

These have the same warranty as the others. The difference is a thinner frame which theoretically could mean they are not as sturdy hence the slightly cheaper price. However they will still suffice and are otherwise similar. The shelter currently has 13 of these.

Steady progress

We have just made our second purchase with donations directly to the fund. This may seem small but it's over $200.

We're not notified when beds are purchased directly from the Kuranda site as a result of this fundraiser but do know that over a dozen beds have been brought directly. That is over $1,000! If you would like to help keep count, send in a screenshot of your receipt. Also watch for ongoing raffles. Let's keep this going. We currently have $36.88 left in the fund. Almost enough to purchase a cat bed. Who can top us off? A cat bed is 40 plus tax.

CORRECTION: I have been able to identify the beds I was counting as similar but not Kuranda. Those beds are actually made by Kuranda but weren't on their site which this fund has been ordering from. Therefore, the total number of Kuranda beds as of last week is 44. It's not 50 but not quite as bad of an exaggeration. However, this still does not account for the fact that well over a dozen of those have been donated as a result of this fund set up by volunteers. The initial set up of the donation program essentially sat dormant for 2 years. Credit still needs to be given where due.

Unlike the shelter, Abilene Animal Shelter Kuranda Beds Fund will publicly correct themselves in a heartbeat if something is found to be inaccurate.

The Abilene Animal Shelter has terminated a volunteer in retaliation for that volunteer pointing out false information published in an article where the shelter supervisor has claimed credit for all of your hard work and generous contributions and lied about the numbers of Kuranda beds present at the shelter.

Is this fundraiser going to be canceled or ended? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Are we here to contribute to the animal shelter as an organization? We are not. We are contributing to animals stuck in a shelter environment who would not get provided with this comfort if not for YOUR help and YOUR looking out for them.

Total count of Kuranda beds currently at the shelter is 31 dog and 5 cat. Total number of raised vinyl beds similar but not Kuranda is 13 dog. Let's get these shelter babies through these long nights on cold concrete to something that will provide them with support and help them rest just a little bit easier.

Woo-hoo! Abilene Animal Shelter Kuranda Beds Fund has made its first direct purchase thanks to a donation received today. The fund has received a total of $106.

We have also gained 11 beds, over $979, via people buying direct from Kuranda.

Happy holidays everyone. Cold Stone Creamery of Abilene has teamed up with Abilene Animal Shelter Kuranda Beds Fund and is donating some free ice cream. FREE COLD STONE ICE CREAM!

For each and every dollar you donate to the Kuranda Beds Fund, you'll earn one entry into a drawing for one, Like It size, premixed, ready to go ice cream bowl. Variety is changed daily and subject to availability. Example, if you donate $5, your name will be entered into the drawing five times.

Current count for Kuranda beds are 28 dog beds and five cat beds. Might be more cat beds but I can't go into the cat room. Also the size of the cat beds make them useful for baby puppies too. There are 14 additional beds that aren't Kuranda beds but still have the material inside of the frame. So we have a total of 42 comfy dog beds. The shelter has 117 dog kennels not including the quarantine area.

The success continues! A total of $81 dollars has been raised so far. Please continue to pass the word along. Once we get the right amount of donations to cover the cost, individual beds will begin to be ordered. I will post the confirmations so you can make sure your money is being used exactly as stated.

Also, I do have a request out on the Taylor County Acts of Kindness page to someone who might be able to make the exact beds from the raw materials at half price. We'll see if the exact specifications can be met and perhaps get the exact quality assembled from raw materials for a cheaper price.

Donation boxes will be appearing in different businesses around town starting this week. Keep an eye out for them. I want to thank Spaw Pet Grooming and Boutique and Firehouse Bar and Grill for their support to set up donation boxes for this fundraiser.

If you are looking for other ways to support the animal shelter, Jackson Bros. Feed on 11th has a general donation jar set up and are going to be setting up a Christmas wish tree for items that the shelter needs.

Diamonds in the Ruff is setting up a box for donation items that the shelter needs. They will also have a copy of the shelter's Amazon wish list.

If you have any suggestions on more businesses that might be interested in this project, please reach out. Thank you for your support on behalf of the shelter animals. Let's get this done.

The latest post has supposedly reached over 1,000 people but no one has donated yet. What can I do differently for those of you who might be hesitant to donate? Did you know that if everyone who liked the City of Abilene Animal Services page donated $1, it would be almost $9,000? That would be two-thirds of the money needed to put a durable, comfortable Karunda bed in each kennel. $1 is less than a lot of us spend on a cup of coffee. I challenge each person who likes the shelter page to donate a single dollar towards getting each dog a comfy bed so they won't face sleeping on a hard, cold, concrete floor each night. Of course, feel free to donate even if you haven't liked the page or donate more than a dollar. The Abilene Shelter page currently has 8,813 likes which gives us a goal of at least $8,813.
