One of the two most common paths that cancer can spread through is the lymphatic system. This system is made up of small vessels that collect the fluid surrounding cells and return that fluid to the bloodstream. Carcinomas usually spread through the lymphatic system and are malignant.

We ask you to for lumps and bumps monthly, but that is not always the sign you see. Make sure you are observing your dog and their habits. In this case Carly's Mom noticed excessive thirst and twitching and she took her in. In the end, Carly and survived 13 months post diagnosis.

Sister Abby had Osteosarcoma. She lived over 12 years . Now we are together over the Rainbow Bridge. She was originally missed diagnosed, because of her age, they thought it was arthritis. Always double check don’t be afraid to say. I think it is more. However, now we are enjoying our heavenly life together.❤️

Osteosarcoma is one of the Top 5 Cancers. It is usually found in the legs, but can be found in any bone of the body. If caught early, the survival rate goes up and is one of the better survival rates relating to cancer in dogs. Larger breed dogs are more prone to this cancer. Keep a look out for limping or swelling, if you see that, take your pup to the vet.

If you're afraid that you've given me a few caresses, you must know that I haven't forgotten even one.

If you regret scolding me even once, you must know I don't even remember it.
If you think you've left me alone for too long, you must know that I've always been waiting for you.

If you fear that you have devoted little time to me, you must know that I, even that little, have enjoyed every moment.

If you think you played me small, you must know that I never counted the times you threw the ball at me.

If you think I have forgotten your perfume, you must know that even now I am smelling it in the wind.
If you wanted to be reborn in another life, you must know that I would like to be your puppy in that one too.

If you are convinced that you have some flaws, you must know that for me you have been perfect.

If you think love can have an end, you must know that in my heart the place of love is infinite.

If you think you have regrets about me, you must know that I wouldn't change a single second of the life I've spent with you.

If you think I no longer hear your voice when you call me, just trust the sunset breeze the task of bringing me your words.

If you think I can forget your face, you must know I wanted to live just to enjoy your look.
If you think I could have loved someone more than yourself, you must know that I loved you more than I loved myself.

If you think I'd like a soft couch, you know I'd have slept on the rocks with you too.
If you think I wanted more than you gave me, you must know that I have always felt like the happiest puppy in the world.

If you've ever felt lonely, you must know that I never left my place next to you.

If you think my life's been short, you must know that I wouldn't want to live another minute if I hadn't spent it by your side.

If you fear that I'm no longer close to you, know that as soon as you close your eyes I'll fall asleep next to you.
If you think you haven't made the right decision, you must know that I've always trusted you. Always.

If you dream of seeing me again someday, you must know that I'll be there waiting for you like I've always done.

Guess what today is! You guessed right! It's CHECK YOUR DOG Day. Regular monthly checks for anything abnormal are key in helping your dog fight if it comes to that. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we all know how important regular checks are for people. The same goes for our dogs, especially the girls. We all know how much they love those belly rubs so spend a little extra time right now.

If you've had a dog diagnosed with mammary cancer, please feel free to share their story with everyone. Information is also key in the fight! You never know who you might help.

Once the decision is made to get the tumor out of your dog, you will probably hear the phrase, "if we get good margins." If you are like most dog owners who are dealing with this for the first time, you will be nodding your head and wondering what does that really mean? Here is an article that can clear it up for you.

“I’ll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge,” is something I say to the dogs I’ve lost over the years, and I know I’m not the only one. For me, the Rainbow Bridge is a symbol of love. Why love? I love the memories and I love believing that I will meet them again one day. I can’t wait for those tail wags and slobbery kisses. The only fault dogs have is that they don’t live long enough. Whether it’s old age, cancer, or any number of things, it’s never long enough. What they give us while they are here is priceless and cherished. If only the bridge had visiting hours. Today, we remember them!

We would love if you’d share memories of those waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge in the comments.

Hemangiosarcoma can be one of the cancers that sneaks up on us. Dogs are so good at masking problems, that often you don't see the signs until it has progressed.

But we need to keep vigilant and once a month for anything out of the ordinary. Each day we are observers of our dogs and if anything seems off, reach out to your veterinarian. It may be nothing, but it may be something too.

Knowing that cancer is an issue and knowing your dog are two powerful weapons we can use to fight cancer in dogs.

I know we will be losing Penny’s little sister (now 12) and my sweet Abby soon . She has bone cancer (osteosarcoma ) for 9 months . She has beaten the odds. No surgery, no chemo and no radiation . We are enjoying the beautiful afternoon . She has brought her family so much joy. She has a stubborn will. Even though she has a hard time walking now she refuses to let me pick her up. If only we were all that strong. Let’s enjoy another day. ❤️❤️🐶

can strike at any age. Meet Ziggy - 2 months before he turned 2 - he was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma. He had his hind leg amputated and chemo. He survived that round, only to find out just after his 3rd birthday that he had a mass on his spleen. One splenectomy, blood transfusion and aggressive bone lesion later he continued to survive.

His Mom, Jessica, is walking in the walk because " no dog deserves to suffer this disease, especially one as young as Ziggy." This is her second year to walk and we are sad to report that Ziggy crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly after his 3rd birthday.

I asked Jessica what she could pass on to Pet Parents from what she has been through and here is what she said:

"I'd say that attentiveness and trusting your gut is my best advice to pet parents. I'm very confident that the reason why we have been blessed with 17 months (which is truly remarkable for this cancer) since his initial diagnosis is a combination of early detection and that the primary location was the bone."

Ziggy has been truly astounding in his battle with hemangiosarcoma. Since his amputation and up until recent weeks, he still had that incredible puppy energy - getting the zoomies, wrestling with his older sister, chasing squirrels, and playing with toys.

Many dogs will get cancer - many of their pet parents will have no idea that cancer was even a thing in dogs. Job number one for all of us is to let our friends with dogs know that cancer is an issue in dogs. Job two is to keep an eye on ours dogs, knowing every inch of them. when treating cancer. Join us in the fight against cancer in dogs check out wearethecure.org and put the 14th of the month on your calendar so you can for lumps and bumps.
