Let me tell you a little story about these peas ...

I decided to plant some spinach and peas in our dilapidated raised bed in early March. After two weeks NOTHING had sprouted. After gently tilling just a section of the bed I saw the seeds had started growing, but hit a top layer of hard compact soil. I decided that before trying to plant anything else I would need to modify the soil in the bed.

Three weeks later I had spinach AND pea plants thriving! I ate some of the spinach yesterday and it was DELICIOUS. :)

Don't give up! Heavens knows my plants didn't! 😂

One of the most important things I learned in my gardening class last year was gardening does not have to be complicated. You don't need the best fertilizer, all the right equipment and acres to plant. Just take some seed, put it in the ground and see what grows!

It's official! One of our easter eggers lays green eggs! 😊
Fun Fact: Easter eggers can lay eggs varying in colors of blue, green, and pink/brown BUT an individual chicken will only lay one color egg.
One of our chickens will give us green eggs the rest of her life. We will just have to see what color our other easter egger gives us! Any guesses?

As some of you heard, we had a fox attack our chickens last night. If it weren't for Paisley (pictured) things could have been a lot worse. She may have hurt her foot and lost some feathers, but she got to the back door and alerted us before the fox could get anyone else.

The Black Australorp lays large brown eggs. Unlike some other breeds, the only recognized color is black.
Pictured is Henny Penny from our very first flock of chickens! She is one of our broodiest chickens and sits on multiple clutches of eggs each summer. She is definitely the mother hen of our flock.

Orpingtons are a dual purpose breed that lay large to extra large brown eggs.
We prioritize selecting breeds that are known for being docile and friendly. These birds are cold hardy and are considered broody (have a tendency to sit on their eggs).
We lost our first buff orpington (Tiffany) to an opossum and wanted to be sure to add another to our flock!
Any name suggestions?
