10 years ago I brought this little nugget home with her two sisters to foster them and find them good homes. Her sisters found homes quickly but she was still hanging around when Dave McKay and I started dating. He fell in love with her, so I let him take her home.

Wren was super sweet but boy was she a successful escape artist. As a baby she would find the smallest gap in any fence or gate and squeeze out. As an adult, she did the exact same thing. Dave was constantly mending the fences and putting in dig barriers to keep her from taking unauthorized field trips. She was slow to do anything else. Dave liked to put her in the truck and take her to Lowe'so or get donuts on random mornings. She loved people and loved the attention. She was definitely his little buddy.

Several months ago I took her in to get a lump removed that turned out to be cancer. Pre-surgery blood work showed her liver was not functioning properly so they couldn't perform surgery. They best we could do was keep her comfortable until it was time. The last couple of weeks she was obviously struggling. She stopped eating her regular food but was eating wet food. She'd go outside but then lay in random hiding places in the yard and wouldn't come in. She was struggling to walk. I was planning to make that phone call to the vet but tonight after she came back into the house she crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 😢😢😢

Run free baby girl, you have plenty of pups waiting for you. I know Dave will be so happy to have you back in his arms. ❤️

The week of the 4th is always vet week for the dogs. It is multiple trips over 2 days with multiple dogs. Nikola turned a corner and for the first time since she was spayed behaved at the vet. Not once did she get grumpy with them or growl. She was so well behaved, she made me proud. 🥹

Capone on the other hand is old and grumpy. He grumbled a little but we were still able to get him all checked out. He's 14 now and it's likely this will be his last regular trip to the vet. It sucks that I was looking at him and this realization hit me. He still gets around ok but his age and size means he's just getting closer to the inevitable. 😭

The pigs and goats got to have veggie fruit day! I had time this week to get to Jungle Jim's and hit their discount fruit and veggie rack. It's amazing how many things I can get on the cheap that's still in great condition. Sheriff Toaster the piglet went nuts on the bananas as he always does, he takes them and runs off with it so Oreo can't get them. He's very comical with those bananas. 🍌❤️🐷🐽🐖

This guy was SUPER unhappy about being put in the crate to go get his cotton balls chopped off. He screamed bloody murder the minute I got him in the crate til the time the vet took him out (it was LOUD). But when the vet went to put him in their cage, he flipped out and took off, started scaling walls, scratching vet techs, getting stuck on a really high cabinet, and somewhere in the process he declawed himself of one nail. They did finally get him situated and were able to get the cotton balls taken care of, closed up his toe and gave him an antibiotic. When I picked him he screamed the whole way home. This guy is such a turd. I just hope he will be nice to the other freeloaders now.

Today we tried a banana. Sheriff Toaster was a huge fan (you can see he's got a little on the sides of his mouth LOL). He kept climbing in my lap to get to the banana in my hand. Oreo was also very interested but she's not as much of a climber as her brother so she politely ate hers next to me. I'm working on teaching them how to eat from hands without chomping off parts of the hand, which is practice for all parties. Even though these guys toofers are still pretty small, it doesn't mean they won't pack a punch!

They are doing really well with all the handling. Sheriff Toaster likes all cuddles and Oreo prefers not to be touched on the head, but seems fine anywhere else. Fair enough girly. They sure are are cute. 🥰

So this Samson. He's been hanging around the house for many months, but just recently stated "asking" me for food. I know he's been eating food out of the outdoor cats bowls during the day because I could see him on my camera. Then he started coming up to me when I'd go outside and meow at me and I'd give him food and he was happy. He lets me get close to him, almost pets but not quite.

People are convinced it's Dave sending me cats. He should really stop. I don't need anymore. I really really really don't.

Piglets!!! 😍😍😍 🐷🐽🐖

I'm keeping some piglets on the farm for my helper. He brought them over today and they are SSOOOO cute. I get piglet cuddles! ☺️

The rest of the farm was enjoying the sunshine. The air was a touch cool but the sun was nice and warm. Apparently laying in the empty water tub was the best spot for one in particular. And Tim has Dave hair don't care going on LOL.

Today, I made the difficult decision to let Charles cross the rainbow bridge. 🌈 The treatment we tried wasn't helping. I know it doesn't seem like maybe I gave it enough time but the problem was even with the appetite stimulant and the meds, it wasn't getting better. He still wouldn't eat and giving him meds was clearly stressing him out. I was able to get them down using butter and I was putting food on his tongue and he would just spit it out. Even getting some peanut butter in him didn't perk him up. He was having trouble getting up and down and he lost 30 lbs, which is not good for a dog that should be 120-140 lbs. I could see he was miserable and I figured maybe it was time while he could still move. 😭

It never gets easier having to do this no matter how many times I've done it before. I know Dave and I gave him a better life than what he had before we took him and Darwin in but it just seems like the time with them was too short. It's an unfortunate part of having giant breeds. Now he is at peace and he's with Darwin. Dave will take good care of them. ❤️

Ugh. This goober has been struggling since he came home from his first vet visit a few weeks ago. He's been going back and forth on eating and no eating and when he did eat, it wasn't much and it would only last a couple of days. We tried giving him anti-nausea medication and probiotics but it wasn't helping to encourage him to eat or eat more. He started eating his dog biscuits last Friday, then over the next 4 days would eat some Fresh Pet food, a little bit of dry food, and more biscuits. Then he just stopped. He's lost so much weight so I called the vet again and we decided to check his blood work and it's not great. He has a lot of elevated levels of various things, and the worse is his kidneys. So the thought is he either has a kidney infection or is going into kidney failure. 😔

So we have an appetite stimulant and antibiotics and we're going to see if that perks him up and he eats. If this doesn't work though, we may have to consider quality of life which sucks. But as a giant breed with a life expectancy of 8-10 years, he might just be getting to that point because he will be 8 this year. Cross our paws this works ❤️

This goober decided that I have nothing better to do with my time and money than spend it at the vet. 😒

He apparently ate something that appears to be causing an obstruction. I knew something was up when he stopped eating, then stopped taking treats. Lastly he threw up a bunch of water and I knew it was time to get to the vet. Definitely not bloat, and the vet can see something on the xray so he gets to have fun with a barium treatment. Hopefully that works because I'd rather not have to deal with a surgery.

Even though it was a little chilly out today the sun was nice and toasty according to the critters.
