Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of losing our dear Bandit (fka TXHR Hightower).

While our time together was way too short, Bandit instantly won us over with his big heart and his happy WOO's of joy. Bandit quickly made himself at home, and even cuddled up to Ginger D. Chihuahua (who is rather picky about who gets to share the couch with her!).

We miss you Bandy-Boy! Say "HI" to Miss Trixie for us!!

Some wonderful memories of Bandit...

The infamous and very loud rubber chicken toy that Bandit picked out himself on his adoption day.

And Bandit's blue Kong squeaky bone that Ginger "borrowed" several times (including the day she hid it under a comforter in our spare room!). While their time together was short, Bandit and Ginger got along very well.

Thank you to everyone for their kind thoughts and words about our Bandy-Boy. Kudos to Texas Husky Rescue for all of the great work they do!

It is with a very sad heart we let you know that Bandit (TXHR Name ~ Hightower) has earned his silver harness and joined his TXHR friends at the Rainbow Bridge! Since finding forever with his adopters, Bandit had started obedience training, the neighbor boys would come over to play with him, he loved his daily walks with his dad...it was the Bandit show at their house! In the last week, they noticed he hadn't been acting himself. They took him to the vet who found a bleeding tumor on his spleen and made the extremely difficult decision to end his suffering and pain! Even though his time was short with his adopters, they loved him beyond measure. They lost their previous rescued husky, late last year from a very similar condition and felt Bandit was brought to them so they would know how best to help him in his final months. TXHR sends Bandit's forever family prayers of peace and thankfulness for loving and caring for Bandit. RIP Bandit and run free with happiness free of pain!

Hi. Bandit's adopted Dad here today to share some heart-breaking news: Bandit's health issues were much more serious than we knew, and unfortunately our "Bandy" passed away on Friday, 2/5/16.

Bandit battled and won the fight over hookworms and a severe case of Kennel Cough. After more than six weeks of medication, Bandit just could not get rid of that nasty Giardia parasite. Then last week, we noticed a drop in his energy level, and then he stopped eating. We got Bandit into the vet right away, and the news was all bad...The blood test showed severe anemia (that was not present just two weeks earlier). X-Rays revealed an extremely large splenic tumor resembling a cancerous hermangiosarcoma (more than likely a blood cancer).

We (including the Vet) could not believe this diagnosis...It was the exact same illness that ended the life of our 12-year old Husky, Trixie, on Nov. 24, 2015! The silver lining to this tragic turn of events is that Trixie's ordeal had taught us a lot about splenic tumors and the low survival rate from hermangiosarcomas. Our poor Trixie experienced a painful splenic tear the night before we euthanized her.

After discussing all of the possible options regarding treatment, survivability, and quality of life with our Vet, we made the difficult decision that Bandit could not reasonably survive long-term from the destructive ailments attacking his body. After loving all over Bandit for some time, we said our good-byes and he quietly passed away surrounded by the Forever Family that he "chose".

As difficult as it is to lose two family members within 3 months, we will adopt again when the time is right. We miss you, Bandit!

A documentary film inspired by Goldstock, an annual gathering of hundreds of Golden Retrievers and the people whom they rescue.

Another great week in my new home. I even saw Pam Chamberlin of Texas Husky Rescue during my walk on Saturday morning! (Pam took my rescue photo when people called me "Hightower".)

I earned my new adopted name "Bandit" during the Texas Husky Rescue Adoption Event at the Petco in Grapevine, TX on 12/12/15. When I saw Tom and Jolie, I sidled right up to that Tom character and leaned my body against his leg and flashed my deep blue eyes. Tom says that I immediately stole his heart (Get it..."Bandit").

What Tom didn't know was that I would fully embrace the Bandit moniker, and try to "steal" a noisy rubber chicken toy from the Petco. To get me ready for the car ride home, Tom took me down the toy aisle, and he started randomly squeezing dog toys. When he reached that rubber chicken, I heard a really loud obnoxious noise and IT WAS ON! Before he knew it, I stealthily pulled that toy right off of the rack, swiftly removed the cardboard tag, and it was SHOWTIME! (See my video posted below)

Apparently those dog toys are not free for newly adopted fellas like me (???), so Tom thankfully bought the chicken. I proudly marched out of that Petco squeaking that chicken all across the parking lot. By the time I arrived at my new home, I had destroyed that wonderful chicken toy...Good times!

Hello World...Bandit D. Husky here with my first post ever! (Per the photo, I went by the name Hightower during my recent travels.) Info about how I earned the name "Bandit" will follow in future posts.

It's been a very busy couple of months: 1) Got dropped off at a Fort Worth shelter (where I lost a lot of weight and contracted Kennel Cough - YUCK!) 2) Thankfully got saved by the great folks at Texas Husky Rescue 3) Found my forever home with Tom and Jolie on 12/12/15 -- Best Christmas present EVER! (My Husky predecessor, Trixie, did a great job of preparing these people for my arrival!)

Since mid-December, I've been getting lots of good food, love, attention, toys, and medical care from my adoptive parents. I'm even making friends with my canine com padre, Ginger. She may be small, but I dig her Chiquaqua attitude!

A big Husky Howl to both Texas Husky Rescue and Timber Ridge Animal Medical Center for giving me a new lease on life!
