The Spiny Leaf Insect

Scientific name: Extatosoma tiaratum

These guys make great low maintenance pets for all ages. Are easily handled, feed on a variety of different leaves and can live for upto 2 years.

In the wild these guys are hard to spot looking like dried up dead leaves. Camouflage is their first line of defence. The spikes all over their body act as a further visual deterrent to any hungry bird that may be tempted.

Capable of reproduction via parthenogenesis (She don't need no man) Spiny leaf insects really are a never ending source of fascination. Shedding up to 6 times during their lifecycle, you will be fascinated how quickly they grow and how much they change with each instar.
