From one of our great recipient groups:
Mutt Misfits Animal Rescue focuses on saving pets with medical or special needs, so it means a little bit extra for a rescue pet to have a safe, comfy place to call their own as they recover and heal.
Whether underdoing heartworm treatment or recovering from a surgery, it's important for a pet to have a safe, warm place that is all theirs, that they can retreat to as they acclimate to a new environment and don't feel their best. We are so thankful for the GOODS program and their partners, like Chewy, who provided these incredible beds for our rescue pets! So many of our pets come to us from tough situations or scared from being in a shelter and their mental and emotional well-being is just as important as their physical needs and these beds will make such a difference in their journey! Our van was packed completely full of these amazing dog beds and we are just so, so grateful.
Former Misfit Fiona tested out the beds for her bigger rescue friends. She gives them 5 stars - would nap on!
Fiona is a great example of what we're all about. She was surrendered to the Oklahoma City shelter in terrible pain as puppy after being attacked by another dog and experiencing a gruesome broken jaw. The shelter isn't equipped to handle needs like hers and we quickly stepped in to get her the care she needed. She underwent immediate surgery to repair her injury. She spent days being hospitalized and at times we thought she may not make it. Most of her lower jaw wasn't able to be saved and she spent months healing in her foster home. We are happy to report that she healed beautifully and has never let her injury slow her down! She was adopted into a great family and lives a happy, healthy life as a normal doggo (who definitely thinks she is bigger than she is, but don't tell her that).
