Due to some unforseen circumstances, we have had to close our store location. Without the space for any more rescues. We can not take anymore in for an unforseen amount of time. We love what we do and have loved the babies you have adopted from us. Please know we gave it 100% to the 1000s of animals we have rescued over the years. We feel good about the impact we have made in the animal world. We have educated so many people and gave so many, a new best friend and family member. If we ended up with your baby due to a bad situation, thank you for trusting us. We spent 1000s of hours screening new families for all of the animals that came through our facility over the years to make sure they went to a good home. Thank you for all your love and support over the years. If you have one of our babies. Give them kisses from us. We will hold each and every one of them in hearts for the rest of our lives! The Bird House and More LLC page will be kept open. But, this one will eventually be closed down.

A dear friend and loyal customer had to make one of the hardest decisions of her life. After 17 years, she decided her beloved AG needed somewhere where he could to get more love and attention than she was able to give him. We are so grateful and honored, She picked us as his forever home. Everyone say hello to our newest flock member, Stormy! Stormy will not ever be available for adoption. He is a permanent resident.

Update on Maggie the B&G Macaw. Surgery was touch and go. She stopped breathing several times during surgery and had to be Recessitated. She is out and recovering. The next 72 hours are critical. She will be going back and forth with us over the next few days so we can keep a close eye on her. At this point we are not comfortable leaving her at the store without supervision. So she will be in our home. Although she may have pr*****ed at some point with her previous owner. What we were seeing was not a prolapse. Maggie had a massive hernia that was completely twisted around her intestines. Dr. Scott said most likely was caused by the bound egg. He did what he could to repair the area without damaging her intestines. We are praying she makes makes a full recovery. If you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers, we would greatly appreciate it.

We just found out another one of our babies has flown away. Owners live in the Columbus area. Bird is a cockatiel and banded with the letters BHM on the band. If you find this baby. Update on this beautiful girl. She is still here and doing great! Owners have not come forward at this time. She still has several weeks before her quarantine is up. But, she is doing great and has gained her weight back and has tons of energy! She is flying around her cage and talking to the other birds in the shop non stop. :)

Meet Maggie, Maggie is approximately 30 years old and NOT avail for adoption at this time, nor is she out for public view. Her previous owner has not been doing well over the last few years. Over the weekend, she called us, stating we needed to come get Maggie. They were not expecting her to live past the weekend, and Maggie needed medical attention. 3 weeks ago, Maggie got eggbound and took the egg out herself and is suffering from some injuries and infection. Maggie is going to require some medical attention. But, we still love her S.C.A.R.S and all.

We have been back and forth on the phone with Dr. Scott l, devising a treatment plan for her. Pictured below is the cage she has been living in as well. Please keep your negative comments to yourself. We are aware of the conditions of the cage. And she is no longer in it. It is out back if someone would like it for scrap. Please do NOT take it and put another animal in it! Please call us 317-825-3030 if you would like to make a donation to help with Maggie's treatment. If you have a gently used RUST FREE cage you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated! We are also excepting monetary donations as well. However, we do not use any apps. Another happy family 🥰 Paco has found his forever home. We are so blessed to meet such wonderful, caring, patient people. Paco was owned by the same owner for over 23 years. Paco's new family showed an extreme amount of love and patience for him during their visits and decided on making him part of their family. We wish you guys many happy years together. Miss Scully is back. Unfortunately it did not work out with the family that adopted her. Former adopter stated Scully kept trying to attack her cat and did nothing but scream. Apparently Scully is not a fan of cats as we have never heard her scream here. Other animals can cause stress to birds which causes them to react differently in new places. Finches were also checked out by Dr. Scott. They are all older and need a loving home for the duration of their lives ❤️

His eyes met mine as he walked down the rows of cages peering apprehensively into each one. I felt his need instantly and knew I had to help him.

I lifted my crest, not too exuberantly, so he wouldn't be afraid. As he stopped at my cage I sat very still and was very quiet, I didn't want him to know that I hadn't been out of my cage today. Sometimes the workers get too busy and I didn't want him to think poorly of them.

As he read my card I hoped that he wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

He leaned forward and began to talk to me. I shoved my wing and the side of my head up against the bars to comfort him. Gentle fingertips caressed my head; he was desperate for companionship. A tear gathered in the corner of his eye and I raised my foot and touched his finger to assure him that all would be well.

Soon my cage door opened and his smile was so bright that I instantly jumped onto his arm.

I would promise to be his companion.
I would promise to always be by his side.
I would promise to do everything I could to keep that radiant smile and sparkle in his eyes.

I was so fortunate that he came down my row and to my cage. So many more are out there who haven't walked the rows. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Update: Ramon has found his forever home

Meet Ramon! This 11-year-old Bare Eyed Cockatoo is very spunky and loves to dance! Ramon prefers women over men. He has a little bit of a nervous personality, but that's ok. We love him, S.C.A.R.S, and all! We are hoping he warms up very soon and will be vet checked Feb 3rd by Dr. Scott Mcdonald. If you are interested in Ramon, please stop into the Bird House and More. Meet Negan! This handsome boy is such a wonderful bird with lots of potential! Negan will be available for adoption to the right person. Negan seems to prefer females and is all male with just a little bit of attitude. But, don't let that scare you. He is very loveable when he wants to be. Negan can be loud, as with all cockatoos, when he wants attention. We think he suffers from a little bit of separation anxiety when you leave the room. But, that's ok, we love him S.C.A.R.S and all. Kirby has found his forever home!

Meet Kirby! He is a very vocal and energetic 25 year old Sulfur crested Cockatoo. Kirby does NOT like woman. Kirby was on a complete seed diet and has been transitioned to a healthier diet and otherwise healthy. Kirby was vet checked on 9/28/21. Sasha has been adopted

UPDATE: SASHA IS A GIRL!
Update on Sasha. We are still waiting on DNA results unfortunately. So, his/her s*x is still unknown. Sasha visited the vet yesterday and we are still waiting on lab tests to come back. She did have minimal yeast in her stool and is being treated. Doc said that being he/she has plucked for so long he/she has damaged the feather follicles and will not be able to regrow feathers on his/her chest. There are some growing in on his/her feet and back/ wings. It is a constant re direction all day to tell him/her to stop picking at his/her back and wings. Over time I'm hoping it stops. It will take some time for someone to develop a relationship with Sasha. Visitation must be done at the Bird House with Sasha. Sasha will only go to an experienced large bird home and Sasha MUST be an only bird in the home as he/she does not do well with other birds. Meet Sasha! She is our newest member to SCARS. Sasha is a 17 year old Blue and Gold Macaw who has some pretty severe plucking issues as you can see. But, that's ok we love her S.C.A.R.S. and all! DNA testing has been completed on Sasha we are just waiting on results. Sasha lived in a closet filled with f***s and seed for a good portion of her life. Then she was in a cage that was not adequate for a any bird to live in! Sasha's estimated testing is listed below. Any donation amount is appreciated.
