Blind does not mean boring!

Digger is still looking for a comfy place to rest his head. Don’t count him out for hikes and trail walks- he loves to be included in anything! So far he even loves the water, im hoping the weather allows me to take him swimming soon.

Digger has a great recall for someone that can’t even see you, can keep up pretty well with the young dogs, and gets along great with other dogs! He is making great progress with his weight loss, and has even started doing light drag work to build his rear muscles.

If you think Digger could fit into your life please send me a message 😊

Keystone is off limits for swimming guys!

FYI for anyone who takes their dog swimming. My understanding is that no one is allowed to swim - Humans included. Just sharing since the toxic algae can kill a dog very quickly.

Important read- could help save lives. Copied and pasted from a lost and found group:

Missing Dogs! It’s best not to wait to see if your dog is going to come back. Take immediate action to try to locate. Notify dispatch, animal control, humane society, vets, & post lost flyers in the area.

WHEN SEARCHING-Take smelly food & leash to use as slip lead every time.
DO NOT CALL OR YELL for your dog by name -he may think he's in trouble & run off. Use nicknames that you use while playing-baby, good boy, or key words like-go for a ride, treat etc. Squeaky toys.
IF SEEN-DO NOT CHASE you will push him out of the area or into traffic.
DO NOT SEARCH ON QUADS-you will push the dog out of the area.
IF SEEN-drive past & get ahead of your dog -pull off road & get out & drop to the ground -don’t make eye contact & toss treats in his direction-talking up upbeat voice & nummy noises to try to lure in with smelly food-microwaved hot dogs cut up small, chicken nuggets, rotisserie chicken-cheeseburgers etc . If he runs-do not chase-leave food on the ground to create a feeding station to keep him in the area & get back in car.
If you have a sibling dog or dog he plays with on a regular basis-you can walk the dog around the area the dog was last seen & let them urinate in that area & then lead directly back to your house or a trap that has been set. Do not let it randomly walk around. Your lost dog can pick up the scent & follow it home.
IF SEEN-sit on the ground & play with your other dog -get it to bark, yip & play. It will recognize that dog before it does you.
Also it's important to leave your worn unwashed clothing (used pillow case-socks, sweatshirts) & something of the dog's (blanket, pillow, bedding etc) on your porch with smelly food. You can boil hotdogs in crockpot & leave plugged in w/lid off so smell will travel.
If the dog is close-grill bacon on your property or at the area of a recent sighting. If you have-get your other dog to keep barking to draw home.
If it is not raining or snowing- you can sprinkle flour near your porch or gate to check for paw prints.

LOST FLYERS-can be made - make a master copy.
Get lost flyers printed using bright NEON colored paper (green-orange-pink) so they stand out-posted in the area at every intersection (using duct tape on metal poles) & every other telephone pole (staple 4 corners) immediately so you can receive calls of sightings or in the event someone found -they will know who to contact. Use gal sized zip lock bags with zipper part at the bottom to protect from wind/rain. Post at eye level -angled so approaching cars can see. Get some flyers made 4 to a sheet so you can cut & pass out to everyone you see.

A dog can go into survival mode after 24-48 hours on the run - a trap maybe your best chance of capturing if that occurs.

🚨BLIND!! NEEDS FOSTER/ADOPTER🚨

Digger has found himself homeless, and being blind- the kennel is no place for him. He is in need of a foster or even adopter!
He is up to date on shots (just went to the vet) and sweet as can be. So far has been fine with the other dogs here.
He just started on a diet that he will need to continue in order to shed some of this extra weight and ease pressure on his joints.
If you or someone you know is looking for a sweet older pup, please feel free to reach out!

Maintaining a healthy weight for your dog is very beneficial for their health. Pets don’t get to choose to be “chonky”, please don’t shorten your time with them by feeding them to death.

Hello friends!

The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.

Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.

For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.

The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.

If you are purchasing eclipse glasses, please make sure they meet these criteria. For additional information about the eclipse please see:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/

For a list of approved solar-viewing goggles please see:

https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters

It is not safe to watch the eclipse through the lens of your smartphone - it can damage both your phone camera and your eyes. Try this instead:

Safe watching our friends!

Did you know? Dogs must be 24 months or older for OFA Hip and Elbow certification, and 12 months or older for Cardiac, Patellas, and Thyroid certification. There is no age minimum for eye certification, nor for DNA, since DNA does not change as the dog ages.

The OFA also does Preliminary evaluations on hips and elbows before 24 months of age. However, they will need to be re-evaluated again for a final certification once the dog reaches 24 months.

Boarding Buddies! 🐕🐾

We love having new friends over for sleepovers! This is Teddy (red and white) and Annie (grey and white). They had sooo much fun during their boarding- allowing their parents to also have a fun, worry free vacation!

If you are looking for someone to care for your pets while you’re away, send us a message today! With our fenced in yard, trails and creek out back, and individual runs- how could they NOT have a good time? We can also provide isolated kennel runs for anyone who may not be friendly with other dogs.

Everyone, please keep our former foster Magee in your thoughts.
This beautiful soul of a dog was left on the streets and came riddled with tick borne disease. She found a very loving home, was put on medication and flea and tick prevention, and has had so much love in her life.
Unfortunately, even with medication her kidneys are now in stage 4 failure. She is living out the remainder of her days surrounded by love, she doesn’t deserve to go so soon- she’s only around 4 years old.

Please remember to keep your pets up to date on safe flea and tick prevention, it could help you keep them around for so much longer.
