When it's too hot at home there's a little village up the mountain not too far away. We had a lovely day with Carol who had her mini Suzuki Jimny along (see if you can spot it in the picture) 😊

I'm looking after Lolly the parrot over Christmas. Dakota is terrified of this strange being that hangs upside down, stares at him and keeps saying "hello" in a man's voice. At any moment I'm expecting Lolly to start barking back at him.

Words quite simply cannot describe this workshop. The 6 days we spent with Miguel, Louis and Eddie have been life changing for me.

Miguel Carbajal teaches dogs by setting up an exercise and allowing the dog to learn without interference. Here Dakota is figuring out where a track goes over ground that has been contaminated with human scent (1), and then playing with the track layer (2).

If I had to choose just one photo to epitomize these six days, it is the 3rd photo: Dakota in complete happy relaxation with his toy. How to help him achieve this state of mind after busy play is the diamond between the many pearls of wisdom that I take home.

Thank you Clinton for organizing this workshop.
Thank you Miguel, Louis and Eddie for traveling all the way to South Africa to share your knowledge and passion with us.

After following a track to find your toy, what could be better on a winter's day than having a swim?

In K9 SAR we encourage and develop the HUNT drive and discourage the CHASE drive. Dakota can resist all antelope but has twice chased a hare that jumped out straight in front of him (although the 2nd time he listened to my "leave!" and deserted the chase within 2m and carried on with his search). In the last few days we have developed this new Wait and Leave game which he absolutely LOVES 😀. I'm proud of the self control he is developing. Actual video is 5 seconds.
