Delta’s Delights are Delightful

Delta is the love of my life who I got from an awesome local lady when I fell in love with Henry the lab. She was 13 weeks old when I got her and she was one of 13 in her litter. Delta and her sister Dolly were evaluated and chosen by a local organization, Hero Dogs, to work with them as service / therapy dogs. The breeder only donated Dolly and I got Delta. Delta and Henry were fast friends and certainly fell in love. Henry was 6 when we got Delta and we waited til Delta turned 2.5 to try breeding them. So Henry was 8 and we tried until Henry was 10 and Delta was 4 and had no puppies. We took Delta and Henry to a breeding specialist to see if there was anything we could do and sadly Henry was too old so we needed a different male to try. We met Cooper, and he is a handsome Chocolate lab not that Henry and his beautiful blond fur weren’t handsome. We started putting Delta and Cooper together and had no luck AGAIN, so back to the doctor. It was decided that everything was fine and that we then did an assisted breeding. IT HAPPENED, we got Magic and Mayhem!

Magic and Mayhem are our dogs, because when you only get two there really is no other choice but to keep them both ;) However, we had quite a list of people who had been waiting for a puppy, so we decided to try again and WE GOT 6! Two of them are service dogs in training and the other 4 are all family dogs. So we decided to breed Delta one last time to donate the litter to Fidos for Freedom for service work since that is our breeding goal, to make strong, large service, therapy and family dogs.

WE have eight puppies now but the sad news is that Fido’s only has one family that is able to do puppy raising. Puppy raising is a very important part of the working dogs program and it is very difficult to raise the puppy for the first 6 to 8 months and then turn them over to move on in the program but it is how it is done.

Ideally we are looking for local candidates that are interested in becoming puppy raisers or people that are interested in training their own therapy dog. Fidos offers assistance for both these outlets and hopefully together we can get more working dogs in the hands of people that need them.
