🐶Puppy love 💕
Willow and Benji have become great play buddies. Although he’s larger than her, he takes turns on the bottom to keep things fair and let her feel like the big dog!

Although Willow is having fun here, she is still looking for her forever home!!! She’s becoming a social and more confident little dog and deserves to find a home of her own!

Teaching door manners is about more than politeness. It builds safety and self control.

Lucy and Teddy are practicing their mat at the door with their mom. Working two dogs at the same time can be difficult, which is why it is best to teach the skill separately first before bringing them together.

Calm door behavior prevents rushing, jumping and chaos. It helps dogs learn focus, teamwork and trust, making everyday life smoother and safer for everyone. 🙌🏻🐾

Gerry-Anna and Echo are attending a one on one scent detection training intensive with Janey Fuller of Cougar Creek K9 this week. They are a novice team so we are thrilled to see Echo putting the pieces together in highly distracting settings here.

Echo has learned how to search for the scent of Kong pieces and now we are imprinting him on the scent of gopher tortoises for future conservation work.

This scent is new to him so he is learning a lot all at once but he's figuring it out and we are so excited! 🥳🙌🏻 Stay tuned for more updates!

Yesterday, on Rainbow Bridge Day, we paused to remember the incredible dogs who left paw prints on our hearts. 💛 We miss Zeppelin and Bandit deeply, and we honor the joy, love, and memories they gave us.

If you’ve ever loved and lost a pet, you know the bond never fades. It lives on in every wag, every bark, and every quiet moment of love. 🐾💫

Thank you to our great team Emanuel, Olivia and Joyce for holding down the Goldstar Puppy Academy fort so Gerry-Anna could take Echo to a special one on one scent detection workshop with Cougar Creek K-9 in Alabama! He is learning how to search for and find gopher tortoises 🐢to aid in conservation efforts and environmental surveys.

Echo’s Aunt Barb even volunteered her time and her truck to drive Echo and Gerry-Anna up there! She has been super helpful by videoing a lot of the lessons 🎥 and being a great cheerleader 🥳

Day one is officially in the books and they’ve got day 2 tomorrow. Here are some photos from the trip and day one today. We think Echo will sleep well tonight!

We took Willow on an adventure to a dog friendly event at Ocean Republic Brewing over the weekend and she was nervous at first but ended up being a great little companion! Shortly after this video she curled up and took a nap. 🥰 Willow is an 11 week old terrier/chi mix available for adoption! Please message us if you’re interested in learning more about her. Does your dog ever dash out the front door?

This can be a really scary situation that’s made worse if your dog thinks it’s fun to be chased!

There are a few steps to improving this issue.

First we use management to prevent the dog from slipping away by keeping a short drag leash on your dog indoors and outdoors.

Then we teach a fresh new cue for coming when called because usually the old signal is no longer working.

Then lots and lots of reps calling the dog and rewarding with high value treats in multiple environments.

Then we start replicating the problem scenario so the dog gets lots of reps doing the correct behavior in the undesirable situation.

Then as the trust builds between you and your dog, you start SLOWLY reducing the management and continuing your practice with less leash length and eventually no drag leash.

It sounds like a lot of work but you can make a lot of headway in just a week or two.
