Alibi gets a rest and I’m bringing Starfire back into work so we can get her started under saddle. She wore a bit and surcingle for a good part of today and worked on a ground work refresher. She also got her feet trimmed. She’s so smart, she really didn’t forget anything. She’s sure growing up to be a pretty mare, and finally filling out a bit.

Its amazing to me that in just a few months Alibi has gone from a terrified, confused baby to a level-headed, sweet, occasionally bratty young man. The time i have had with him this far has shown me that even though it may not be easy, training a wild mustang is a very rewarding experience that many people wont ever be able to have. I have enjoyed alibi very much and cannot wait to see what he will offer me in the future. I wish everyone good luck. See everyone tomorrow!!!!!

Mania is already almost here!!!! I’m so excited and a bit nervous. I hope that everything goes well and my horse does his stuff. I can’t wait to see everyone’s mustangs and b***os!!!! Good luck everybody!!!!! 😆😆

Mom teaching me how to lay Alibi down

Laying a horse down is such a humbling experience for them. They are at their most vulnerable… they come away with a whole new sense of trust, peace, and a lot of times a real good attitude adjustment.

This silly boy. He side passes ok until I try to get him to side pass over a rail, which he’ll have to do at Mania. He doesn’t like having 2 feet on each side so he does all kinds of weird things trying to keep all 4 feet on the same side. 🫣

Alibi gets to be pasture buddies with my old pony, Lucas. He hasn’t figured out what grass is yet, but once he figures out how to eat it, it should help him get shiny and finish shedding.

Doesn’t Alibi look cute with his mane all braided? 😍 And just a handful of mudballs left to shed. He got cast under a fence and was pretty banged up, so he’s had the week off to heal up. He’s doing much better now.

I want to thank everyone who has been interested in Alibi and has supported our journey so far. So some exciting news for me… Hope this isn’t too disappointing to those who were interested in him, but after a lot of discussion (really since day 1, but a decision finally made last night), I have decided to keep Alibi and will be offering Starfire instead. I think it’s the right choice for me and for both horses. It will be hard to say goodbye to Star, but I’ll make sure she gets a great home. And I’m so excited to be able to continue this path with Alibi!!!! ❤️

Teaching Alibi about the tarp. He’s very brave and will cross it both directions calmly now. Then afterwards we left it in there for him and he was showing off! He kept going and standing on it and playing with it to get our attention like “look at meeeeeeee!”

Alibi worked on learning to sidepass today. And he learned about fly spray and had a half bath with just water from the hose. We’re trying like heck to get those mudballs off but they are like concrete. He won’t tolerate cutting them. We sprayed them with wd40 and concentrated laser sheen, let them sit for a couple hours, then went to hosing and scrubbing with the curry which he HATES. We got a little off but still have a long way to go…

We taught Alibi how to cross the mattress today! We had an old one and decided it would be cool to teach him the lay down on it for a freestyle trick. This was day one, and we made pretty good progress i think!

I’ve been giving Starfire a ground work refresher and yesterday we started moving on to more riding preparation. Worked on flexing and me hanging over her back and she wore the saddle a little bit.

I made some good progress with Alibi today. He learned how to send into the trailer today, and how to pick up front feet. I got him to send so well that he learned how to send in at liberty on command!!

Just hanging out at Matt’s place and they said I could do some work! First official work session and I got him round penning, turning to the inside, stopping while turned in, pet, and tag off. He’s got too much energy for his own good. He was super tired by the end of the session, mostly because he kinda wore himself out. He is super sweaty because he wouldn’t stop pacing ant trying to jump out of his stall, and wouldn’t stay facing in when we stopped during round penning. Quite a bit of progress I’d say!
