We are identifying more cases of polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM) in recent years in Australian horses. PSSM type 1 is a genetic disease now recognized in more than 20 different breeds and numerous crossbreds.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common heart condition of horses. Most horses tolerate the condition well at rest, but at exercise it may represent an important safety risk for horse and rider. This can include collapse and death. We routinely evaluate these horses at rest and at exercise to determine safety. 'Tom' (pictured) was examined using the latest technology in assessing the heart under saddle and was given the all clear for ridden work.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common heart arrhythmia of horses. Although many horses can tolerate AF they should be investigated as it may pose a risk to both horse and rider during exercise. This could include collapse or sudden cardiac death.
