SENSITIVE CONTENT ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
It’s 1:30am and I sit, physically ill and in utter dismay.
I have started this post six or more times, having to collect myself and push forward.
How? How does anyone allow an animal to reach this condition? This level of blatant cruelty and neglect?!
We don’t know his name, but he deserves one of honor. His name shall be Ares- meaning Battle/Strife.
The first photo was taken less than 8 hours ago. A concerned Twiggs resident posted, seeking assistance for this poor soul as he sat, suffering, in a ditch.
As soon as we received word (about 10pm), we reached out to Twiggs County Animal Advocates and asked for assistance to assess the situation. Their volunteers immediately stepped in an traveled to the last known location, prepared to remove him and get him medical care. They arrived, searching for him, quickly shattered by their discovery.
They found him in even worse condition than the photo, struggling to move. Placing one foot forward to walk to him, he let out a gut wrenching cry and took his last breath.
Yes. You read that correctly. Angels arrived to save him, to change his life- AND HE TOOK HIS LAST BREATH.
We couldn’t save him because months went by of no one offering aid. Months went by of dirty water, empty food bowls and thrown scraps. He suffered, starving and in pain. He took his last breath less than Two feet from a dirty, water filled, dog house.
Humans failed him. His “owners” tortured, tormented and abused him- WHY?!
There is not one single justification for this. Not one reason anyone can provide as to why neighbors, family members, friends offered no assistance. No vetting.
Rest assured, we will seek justice. We have already filed a police report and will seek cruelty charges.
We will not rest until his death is no longer in vain. We will push for enforcement in counties with no animal control. We will push for education of local officers to enforce state welfare laws.
This isn’t over. Not even close.
