"Error seems to be propagated with the velocity of light. Every obstacle disappears before it, and everywhere it is welcomed. Truth, on the contrary, is usually recieved with indifference, and often with doubt, mistrust, or suspicion."--Guenon on Milch Cows, A Treatise Upon The Bovine Species In General, 1883

Worth Re-Quoting:
Don't assume that those who disagree with you are evil, stupid or greedy. And even when they are, that doesn't relieve you of the responsibility for making a constructive and convincing argument.-Russ Parsons

Spring is all about PHOTOSYNTHESIS-plant leaves capturing sunlight and carbon dioxide that gets turned into useable energy for ruminants! What an amazing process of recycling nutrients and creating energy that sustains life.

Thank you all for your patience the past couple days as I’ve had to re-schedule appointments and been unavailable for emergencies due to illness. I usually avoid going to the doctor because they are almost as bad as vets, but today it was much needed. I am started on treatments and should be back soon. I apologize for any inconvenience.

It’s that time of year! We are currently booking routine appointments 3-4 weeks out and getting up to 40 calls a day! Shoot us a text or give us a call to get on the schedule for your spring needs and be sure to be stocked up on all the meds and supplies Dr. Jake has recommended for your herd. We deeply appreciate all of our clients and hope everyone has a smooth calving, kidding, and lambing season! 🐂 🐐 🐑

As a small business I am constantly receiving deliveries and I usually don’t pay much attention to the packaging, but this evening the big letters on the side of the box got my attention.

It got me thinking about how much we source everything from overseas…our furniture, our electronics, our medicine and just about everything we consume. Our food supply is no different and it’s all for the sake of having it cheap.

But it comes at a cost, of which the greatest is freedom. The vertical integration of the pork, dairy, and poultry industries has smothered the producer all while promising a profitable path under the false pretense of animal welfare and efficiency. The beef industry has been slower to integrate, but attempts are being made.

So here is what I got from looking at a brown box…

The beef cattle rancher may truly be the last beacon of freedom that we have in this country. Think about it…why else would the beef cattle industry constantly be under attack from everything from petri dish cultured bovine cells and now insect-meat-substitute? I don’t even want to talk about the cow farts.

If this is the last great stand, then how do we maintain our freedom?

I think we have to keep it simple and stay away from the high input systems of beef production that are promoted by the advertising magazines of the feedlot industry. We have to take advantage of the free energy source that God gave us. The sun is the most reliable energy source that there is and ever will be. Plants capture solar energy through the process of photosynthesis and cattle convert that energy into a healthy protein source for our consumption.

I’m not sure who to credit, but I heard a cattle rancher somewhere on social media respond to the criticism that he wouldn’t be able to feed the world without a high input system by saying something to the effect of “I’m not trying to feed the world, I just want to feed my community.”

Imagine what that mindset would look like for our local economies. Maybe our country would start feeling like a community again if we actually started producing things within our communities for our communities.

Raise some cows and go solar! Our freedom might depend on it.

An important part of the regenerative ranching process is regenerative grazing. The use of livestock grazing is an important part of the ecological process to improve soil health and plant diversity.
