I debated posting this picture but considering that today many of us are gonna be thankful for what we have and are gonna be spending it with those we love, eating very yummy food, I changed my mind. I didn't know my boyfriend had captured this moment. A couple of day's ago we went to eat late at night and as we waited for our order i saw this homeless lady walk in asking people that were throwing away there leftovers if she could have them. Not one person said yes, they all ignored her and threw it away it broke my heart...I have been volunteering with the homeless now for many years... they don't repulse me or make me sick to my stomach. I hold them all with so much love. So I told Fred if I see her before we are done eating I will give her my food. I looked for her as we were getting ready to leave and couldn't find her.....I felt sad knowing all the rejection she had that night searching for a warm meal. As I was gonna throw away my one leftover chicken strip and like 5 fries I heard a very quite voice ask me if I had anything left. I turned around and it was her..l gave her my food and watched her sit and eat it.....but something didn't feel right...I felt like a horrible human being feeding her my leftover chicken strip..she deserved so much more...so I bought her a whole meal..she deserved to eat a hot meal. When I ordered the meal I asked the employee for a huge favor to please do not kick her out as we waited...I could already see the disgust on people's faces as she sat at the table eating the leftovers I had given her....news flash people not all homeless people smell like roses. She was getting ready to get up and leave when I surprised her with this meal....the look on her face said it all...I have never felt something like this...pure, real gratitude. That hug she gave me was like a hug I had never felt....those tears she shed were felt deep in my heart...I held her tight and let her let it out. I wasn't repulsed by it....I just held her. And that is a moment I will never ever forget. So next time u judge a homeless person think twice...not all of them are homeless because of a drug addiction or because they are lazy.

The cat Schlupf is a labor of love. It is not a business. I charge $40 for the material and crochet my fingers raw for $100 because I enjoy being creative and I love making kitties happy. I have had 2 scammers order a Schlupf just to find out they were trying to scam me through Venmo. Shame on you! I hope that all kitties you cross will scratch, bite and spray you!

The story behind the Cat Schlupf....

Since I was a child in Germany I loved all cats and kittens but I never got to have a pet cat because my mom was petrified of cats. So as and adult I have always had one or two or three or four cats. I used to foster kittens for our local shelter and one day came up with the idea to crochet a little kitten cave to keep the babies warm and together. The Cat Schlupf was born. "Schlupf" in my native German dialect means slip. Something to slip into, to make you feel cosy and warm. I crocheted many over the years and donated them to the local shelter.

Then last year I was blessed with a sphynx baby boy! And what do you know? I pulled the hook and yarn back out and perfected the pattern so that it is perfect in shape and size, sturdy enough to not collapse yet super soft and comfy for my naked boy. And of course washable.
He just loves his Schlupf so much. It is his safe place and bed. It is where he feels relaxed when I clean his ears. It's his place in the car. It's his everything. I don't have to put clothes on him because his body heat keeps it warm in there, no more blankets needed. Just so many wonderful uses!
I wanted to know what a professional Love of Sphynx breeder would think of my invention. So I made a few and donated them for trial to a wonderful lady who has a cattery. It was a total success!
I started offering them for sale and everybody loves the Cat Schlupf!
I use Bernat blanket yarn. One Schlupf takes about 4 skeins of yarn and it takes me about 3 days from start to finish.
It is my passion and therapy and it just warms my heart to see all the happiness the Cat Schlupf gives

Why the Schlupf?

An invention born from a love for cats and kittens. The Schlupf.

It is German for slipping into something. Imagine slipping into something super soft that cradles your entire body feeling safe and warm. Fold it in half and you have the perfect open cat bed, too.

I have three cats of my own, Mietzy, Bo**er and Pippi Longstocking. I love them dearly but every once in a while I just need to love on kittens so I started fostering for our local shelter. It is my way of giving back and I love raising kittens and get them prepared for their forever homes. Some are very scared and some are sick. They need a lot of love, comfort and safety. All cats love to crawl under or in things like towels or blankets or in a tight space to feel save and comfortable. There are carriers of course and towels, there are boxes or even cat caves for sale. But if you have cared for cats and kittens you know they vomit, p**p, have litter stuck to their paws so you need something that is soft, easy to handle and washable. Sometimes cats or kittens are so scared and have to be socialized. But they do not enjoy being held or really touched, that’s when the Schlupf is of great help. The cat is soft and save in the bag and you can hold them and give them love without having to literally touch them. Also, the vets at the local shelter love the Schlupf, it is thick enough for those claws and and the cat can be held safely to calm down or for medicine administration or nail trimming

I have made many Schlupfs and gave them to cat lovers for their opinion. Everybody loves the Schlupf. Some cats were not interested at all, like my Bo**er. Sometimes it takes a little while or sometimes it takes a Thunderstorm like with him. The other day I finished a Schlupf and it was still on my couch. It was raining and thundering outside and there goes Bo**er into the Schlupf. He got comfortable in it and looked out as if saying “This isn’t bad at all”. Kittens generally take to the Schlupf immediately as they are instinctively looking for somewhere to hide. It’s also the best way to transport them. I just put the Schlupf they are in straight into the carrier and find them a lot less stressed. In my experience they cry in the car but inside the Schlupf they feel safe and of course it’s a great way to keep the little ones warm.
