Every day should be a training day

Here is a benefit of whistle training in a rural environment- of course he has a word cue as well. Rem just turned 8 months old. However, the other 4 dogs - 3 of them just a year old- do not have the same recall to “this” whistle.

Teacher turned dog trainer....

While I agree that I have a "dream job" in many aspects, people tend to only look at the "fun" side of training dogs. Sure it's fun to "play" with puppies, but the responsibility of training for service goes far beyond that. Most people do not understand the exponential sacrifices that are made to train a dog for service. The relationship is built on trust and commitment. The utilization of assistance dogs increases independence for others. I have personal experience of seeing how a service dog that I trained serves a family member. I have a dogs in training from 8 weeks to 1.5 years or more. The day the pup graduates and goes to their FURever home is a bittersweet day to be sure. I tend to think on what's true.... that pup is going to change someone's life for the better. There's no denying the PAWSitive effects the pup will have on the life of the recipient.
