Every rabbit loves WATERMELON!
As soon as you walk into the bunny barn all you can hear is "Crunch. Crunch. Crunch!"
Nothing makes me happier than hearing our rabbits munching on their watermelon.

Freckles sadly passed away in his sleep this evening.
He had shown no signs of illness previously but it appears that he passed from GI Stasis.
Unfortunately, this is not the kind of thing that can be easily stopped unless it's caught early.

Freckles came to us in 2020 with his mother Brownie. His mother was homed but he ended up staying with us. During his short time at Ramsey Rabbitry he fathered two litters and won the heart of my little sister. After a few months we came to realize that he did not like other males around him. Because of this reason we felt it best to try and find him a home without male rabbits. There was a lot of interest in him but ultimately those potential adopters fell through. But Freckles was the most cuddly rabbit in our Rabbitry and we are very sad we were not able to catch the Gi stasis in time. 💔 🐰

Hello Everyone! We will be closing down Ramsey Rabbitry.

You all have been a major support team in our efforts to improve the Holland Lop breed as well as rescue unwanted rabbits.
Thank you for everything!
If you have been thinking about getting one of our bunnies than please message me.

We will be closing down Ramsey Rabbitry on July 28th. It's become a recent trend to breed rabbits and there has been a spike in pet rabbit numbers in this particular area.
Some of our own previously adopted "rescue" rabbits have been bred despite our urging not to.
We do not support the breeding of mutt rabbits or unpedigreed ones as stated in our guide. However pedigreed rabbits can be bred because their lines are good and improve the breed but not everyone abides by this. Now I understand accidental litters happen but this has not been the case.
The main reason for this closure is because we're seeing too many unwanted rabbits in shelters and I don't want our Rabbitry to be a part of the problem.
I also need to prepare to attend college in the Fall for Pre-vet and I cannot bring my rabbitry with me.

-All remaining rescue rabbits after July 28th will be sent to sister-rescues in Spotsylvania, and Richmond. Though I will try my best in these last months to home as many as I can into loving families.

-For those of you who have adopted from us I assure you that our promise is still good. If you need to get rid of the adopted rabbit for any reason we will take it back. But it will be sent to our sister-rescue rather than our facility who are more than capable of providing it with a loving home. And if you need veterinary assistance or have questions about rabbit care feel free to continue messaging me with those.

-Feel free to continue sending updated pictures of our babies. It's such an encouragement to us. This page will remain open for you to send updated pictures of our adopted rabbits and with your permission we will post them for others to see.

One day in the future we may reopen but for now I think it's time to put a close to it.
Thanks again for your love and support of Ramsey Rabbitry. ❤❤❤🐰🐰

Zoey (pictured below), W***y, Asher, Dahlia, Stormy, Snickers, Beluga, Minke, and Dahlia will be staying.

Freckles here needs a new place to hop!
And soon! This sweet boy is by far one of our most cuddly rabbits but unfortunately he is a little too friendly for our females. He does not get along with males and we would prefer him go to a place with no other rabbits.

He would do well in a place with
-kids
-Other pets (dogs, cats, ect)
-No male rabbits

Glacier Rose and Stormy Knight's VM Litter
All have blue eyes and are fully pedigreed.

We decided to name this litter after natural disasters and flowers.
These names will appear on their pedigrees.

Icy Azalea Avalanche (aka Lea) maybe female? ❄
Breezy Daffodil Blizzard (aka Daffy) maybe female? 🌨
Raging Nemophila Tsunami (aka Nemo) maybe male? 🌊

All genders are subject to change. The bunnies are still very young and it's difficult to truly determine gender at this time.

Ever wonder how the "Easter Bunny" become associated with Easter? And why do we dye eggs?

The exact origins of the "Easter Bunny" are unknown, but rabbits are well known to multiply quickly, and have been an ancient symbol of fertility/new life.

According to some historians, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and brought their tradition of an egg-laying hare/rabbit called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children would made nests in which this creature could lay its colorful eggs. Once the eggs were "laid" the children would go searching for them. This odd tradition spread across the U.S. and the mythical rabbit’s Easter morning deliveries eventually included chocolate and other types of candy and gifts. Decorated baskets eventually replaced homemade nests but the tradition continued. The children would even leave out carrots for the rabbit in case he got hungry from all of his deliveries.

Easter is a holiday we celebrate because of Christ's resurrection, but some of its customs, such as Easter eggs, are likely linked to pagan traditions. The egg for example, is an ancient symbol of new life, and has been associated with pagan spring festivals throughout history.
From a Christian perspective however, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ resurrection from the tomb.
Decorating eggs for Easter is actually a tradition that dates back to the 13th century, according to historians. One explanation for this custom is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint/decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting. Then they would eat the eggs on Easter as a celebration.

We were able to revive a rabbit kit last night!
This is very common during winter months and rainy/stormy days. I don't usually film because the situation is dire and the kit must be cared for as soon as possible. My siblings were helping me feed the rabbits last night and one of them decided to film it.

Rabbit kits are born without fur and depend on their mother's nest to keep them warm and protected.
But sometimes kit gets separated from the nest/follows their mother's scent out of the nest and gets chilled. The body goes into a coma-like state and only the brain and heart functions continue.

While feeding the rabbits we noticed two kits had fallen out of their mother's nest and into the mud.
The kit was stiff, cold, and unresponsive but after 15 min beside the heater we were able to revive it. ❤

Please note: This will not work if the kit....
-Has bruises anywhere on their body indicating trauma
-Has pooled blood in the fingernails which means that the heart has stopped
-You have been reviving the kit for 45 min with no improvement (kit was most likely dead at birth)

Disclaimer: Again, my priority was reviving the kit not taking a video. My sister filmed while I worked on the kit. I hope this video may help educate others on rabbit physiology and kit revival.

From our outdoor playground cam!

Maybelline dug a huge tunnel in the playground area a few weeks back. We didn't think anything of it until we saw she had little kits in her pen. ❤🐰

This is how rabbit kits are born in the wild. A burrow keeps them safe from the wind and predators.
I would have preferred she have them in the nest box but....mother knows best right?

It's almost that time of year again! The one month where rabbits are in the spotlight and everyone wants one. The only issue is that rabbits are not for everyone.
No matter what I say or what anyone says people will still do it. They will buy a cute little rabbit on impulse and a few weeks later it will become neglected. In which case it will either pass away or it will get dumped at a rescue like ours. We see it every year.

Every Easter young rabbits are purchased as gifts and sadly some people don't realize what they're getting into. I really hope this helps someone this year if you're thinking about getting an "Easter bunny."

Now don't get me wrong there are some great people who do their research and get their rabbits for Easter. They're knowledgeable and understand what they're getting into.

Before purchasing a bunny ask yourself these questions first.

-Can I afford to purchase food/healthcare for the next 10 years?

-Do I have enough time in my schedule to train/interact with this bunny?

-Am I prepared to clean up after this animal on a daily basis?

-Are my family members suitable for a bunny? Anyone allergic to hay/animal fur?
Are my children too young to handle such a delicate creature?
Will my other pets be safe around this animal?

Do your research. Think about this. Don't impulse buy.

This breaks my heart but our "Bunny Shepherd" Tige needs a mass removal surgery.
If you've ever picked up a bunny from us than you have probably met our boy, Tige. He loves to ride with us to every bunny adoption (if not, he goes in the barn and searches for them). He gives them a final kiss goodbye and then the bunny gets to go home to their new family.
He is the most amazing dog we have ever had! He knows how fragile rabbits are and he has a high prey drive for other animals yet he understands that we value our rabbits.
This guy has loved on every bunny that every came through our rabbitry and he has helped us herd/catch/socialize bunnies for years!
We will be rehoming over half of our stock to raise enough money to help him.

The surgery costs $800-1,500 but time is not on our side. The mass is growing and we have to do something fast. If if gets too big they may not be able to do it. I would like to make at least half of the cost to help our boy.

As of now, we have a set price for each of our rabbits. If you have been considering purchasing a rabbit or bunny from us please message me.

We also have.....

-Bunny Shaped brownies
