Red is the colour of the day.

We’ve discovered these lovely clay tiles underneath the existing kitchen floor. We aren’t sure if we can save them but we’re going to give it a good go.

Demolition day ⚒️

We’re prepping for a new kitchen. This one has been in since the 1980s and is in need of a serious upgrade.

Theres been an element of concern as to what we would find behind the existing units but now we know we can fix it up to be hold the new kitchen for many years to come.

Anyone know a roofer?

It’s been so windy over the past few days that it’s finally caught up to our roof. The trusses and supports have snapped and we are in danger of losing the roof over the wood and coal store.

The internal structures are also damaged so we’ve gone for damage limitation and used straps to try and secure it for now.

This weekend is made for sleeping!

Ernie is showing how to live his best life and is hiding from the horrible weather up our way. We’ll be back to renovations and have some new things to show soon.

Christmas is when the gin is ready 🍸

Here we have Rhubarb, Mango and Passionfruit and also Damson gin. It’s taken a few attempts but finally these are ready to be drank and given as Christmas gifts.

Bonfire night is all the rage here at Rhos Ddigre🔥

All the clearing we’ve been doing over the past couple of weeks is now paying off. We’ve built a large bonfire and after a bit of misfires starting it it’s now raging and keeping us warm. The fire coupled with a BBQ and mulled wine is making for a really pleasant evening.

Low light, long exposure and some tea lights makes this a spooky picture 🎃

Halloween is a bit different out in the middle of nowhere. Our trick or treaters will potentially be sheep and some local wildlife. To that end we’ve carved pumpkins to provide forage and nutrients to the local wildlife (raised off the ground so the hedgehogs won’t suffer!).

Before and after shots are meant to show an incredible change, sometimes the reality is quite different.

Before we moved in the outside areas hadn’t been touched for almost 5 years! This weekend we (along with our little helpers) have been clearing brambles, nettles and trees to make room for what will be our new duck enclosure. Once it’s finished we will be able to offer organic, free range duck eggs to future guests and visitors.
