I knew Yeti would be great with meeting kiddos at our recent PR event. But I did not expect her to emulate their behavior. 😂
One little guy kept rolling on the ground between Rougaroux and Yeti, and each time Yeti also dropped down for belly rubs. At one point, he was snuggled up between the dogs, resting his head on Rougaroux’s shoulders, rubbing both their bellies. 🥹
Note: Even though both dogs are comfortable with kids, they were on leashes, under verbal control, frequently paid with high value treats by me, AND given breaks from socializing.
Dogs are dogs and kid are kids. As much as I wished we could have captured that precious moment to share, it was more important to be prepared for a sudden movement that might get our little friend tangled in leads or stepped on. 🫶🏻

Grateful for our medical team squeezing in urgent appointments. We always have a great experience from check in to check out.
Rougaroux was having some signs that pointed towards his medication needing adjustment.
After our latest appointment, it looks like his heart condition may have resolved. It’s a bit too soon to celebrate, we will anxiously wait until the recheck in a few weeks.
Fingers crossed 🥹🤞

Luckily, that was shortlived. Rougaroux is on the mend and currently using his Chris Voss negotiation techniques to drop down his crate rest from 2 weeks to none.

Don't tell any of my Texas fam.... but it got down to 60 degrees yesterday, the sun is setting earlier, and it's pumpkin spice season. That means skiing is right around the corner *screams in delight*

🦗We’ve got some new Jiminy's goodies.
Did you know? Rougaroux’s teeth are damaged from being shot 😠. We are always looking for ways to help support dental care to minimize further tooth removals.
Clearly Rougaroux was also thrilled to try out these new dental chews! 😋 We will definitely be incorporating this into our dental care routine.

I was a good boy per usual for my vet visit and as a reward, my auntie took us to the beach and we watched this funny looking alligator do belly flops for an hour. 🐋❤

Update: Rougaroux will be going on medications to better control his heart rhythm. He will have a recheck in a couple weeks to see how well it is working.

Everyday, I try to live my life a little bit more like The Rougaroux. In the moment, joyful, loving, aaaaand at least a little *spicy*
So we pushed back the dark cloud of uncertainty in those results and his heart condition for a bit and the boys helped me consume some birthday cookies. Because we all know calories don't count on your birthday. 🍥😅

The Holter Monitor has been sent back to the cardiologist. Fingers crossed it arrives quickly and they can evaluate the data soon.
Rougaroux is still a happy boy and getting used to standing still for frequent checks of his heart rate.
Thank you everyone for your outpouring of kindness, it gives me strength. I am honored how much y'all care about the Rougaroux (and his human).

Last week, at a planned vet visit, we had some unexpected findings.
Short version: Rougaroux's heart is not functioning normally.
He's had bloodwork, a tick panel, radiographs, EKG, echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) performed. One of the most important tests was a "Holter monitor" which measured his heart rhythm (EKG) continuously while Rougaroux continued to do his normal activities (see the black vest with wires). The results will help us gauge how much his condition impacts his ability to continue to work.
The results are still pending, the cause is unknown, and therefore, the treatment and prognosis of his condition is also unknown.
While his human is not doing well, the good news, is that Rougaroux continues to not give a flying f**k or feel sorry for himself in anyway. So we are taking it day by day, and I'm doing my best to not be a hot mess stressing my heart out about his heart.
I needed some time to process it before sharing, but many of y'all have been there for the lung surgery and his giant fall, and I always try to be as transparent as possible about life with The Rougaroux.
right now, I'm living vicariously through my friend's motto "if bullets didn't take him down, nothing will" 🧡🧡🧡

One of the many things I love about this dog, is he has the spirit of David Goggins. He doesn't feel sorry for himself for the trauma he experienced as a young dog, he doesn't care that he is missing part of a lung, and he certainly won't stop working after pulling his metacarpal pad off sliding for his tug. He always pops out of his kennel with an enthusiastic "put me in coach!". He is the best partner I could ask for. ❤
