So you're 30 days out from show... CRUNCH TIME! Need we say more?
These last 30 days can make or break all of the effort you've put in thus far. Here are a few areas you should focus your attention for a strong finish with your project ⬇️
🟢 Weight - Make sure you are not only within the parameters of your show, but also that the animal is the right weight for its frame size and body type.
🟢 Leg wool/hair and hide - Now is the time to ensure your project stays fungus and parasite free. For example, heel mites or fly bites. Keeping small ruminants blanketed, even in the summertime, will help protect their hide. For sheep, leg wraps are a must for keeping leg wool.
🟢 Body Condition - This factor takes time to make and see adjustments. It usually takes 30-45 days to execute changes to body condition. Make sure your lamb or goat is not too fat or too thin. Adjust your exercise and nutrition programs to accomplish this. For one that’s too thin, try Bark. For one that’s too fat, try Shredded.
🟢 Showmanship - We've talked a lot about getting your animal ready, but where do YOUR skills rank? Are you ready for a showmanship showdown? Challenge yourself to continually improve over the next 30 days. Here are a few ways that you can practice and improve: 1) Ask someone to fill in as the judge during practice at home 2) Film yourself or practice in a mirror 3) Watch other showmanship drives and exhibitors
