Everyone likes to talk about the harm caused when a horse is ridden behind the vertical... but have you ever wondered why?
One (of the many) problems with a BTV position is that encourages incorrect flexion in the neck. In a healthy horse, the head will flex up and down at the first cervical vertebrae. This bone is known as the atlas or C1.
In an effort to avoid excessive pressure caused by a harsh bit, rider or gadgets (especially draw reins) many horses will begin flexing at the 3rd vertebrae (C3). "Broken at the 3rd" creates incorrect movement throughout the body and will quickly lead to pain and damage. Once a horse begins moving in this manner, it is extremely hard for them to unlearn and they may continue this harmful posture even when at or above the vertical.

Someone’s happy to be done! Love riding in this fall weather

There is a difference between good contact & bad contact. Please pay attention to your horse & yourself when riding so you can be move forward and excel in whatever discipline you ride in!

Top line is so important, it’s something a lot of horses lose going into the winter or during winter! Remember it’s important to keep our equine athletes in shape. Even if it’s a 20 min ba****ck ride in the round pen or backing up a hill. Anything is better than nothing, you really wanna see those muscles raised above the spine like in #4!

Miss jewel got picked up today, and I was sad to see her go but extremely happy with all her progress she made!
She came fearful of her rider, untrusting, spooky, and reactive. She left calm, relaxed, trusting! I doubted myself at the beginning not thinking she was gonna adjust but stayed persistent and eventually she realized that she actually really enjoys having a job and that a person on her back isn’t that scary!
I’m so happy to see her continue her training with Krista L Baxter and get some feedlot miles! Brandy Langevin is gonna have a wicked broke & smart horse come spring time!

Jewel is doing good! Couple ups and downs but she’s a smart cookie. And she will be for sale at the end of her 30 days, if anyone may be interested

Saddle placement is very important, an ill fitting or sitting saddle can impair your horses movement more than you know!
So I'm putting this out there again as I see horses with saddle sitting on their shoulders. Not just the flap, but the tree. I know it might be how you were taught, or you think it goes there because its "how everyone else does it" but its wrong and damaging your horse's scapular cartilage. There is so much new evidence of saddles being too far forward causing damage and the thought process of "thats how its always done" is not acceptable. Lobotomy was thought to be good treatment for psych issues at one time too......just saying😉

Nothing nicer than a fresh arena to ride in!

Darksides pole bending is really starting to come along!
23/09/2021
No matter what discipline you ride in, correct pressure is important!

Robin update: so proud of all the progress she’s been making. She’s really starting to turn into a fantastic horse to ride and we’re definitely gonna miss her when she leaves! She’s changed so much in her time being here, she went from being crazy spooky, hot, jumpy, forward to relaxed, quiet and calm. Couple more videos to come before she leaves 😉
Tika is such a good girl, she’s so broke. Had her second today and she w/t/c!! Can’t wait to see what she looks like at the end of the Month!
I love rides like today, their the reason I love training horses! Since Robin has been here her canter has been her biggest struggle from when she first arrived, when I asked for it she use to buck. Then once we worked through the bucking, we would get really tense for the transition and run into it, then once picked up she’d be very anxious, nervous, as well as hot. I’ve been working lots to get her relaxed as well as long & low, it has been a constant struggle with her but today we had a break through!! As with majority of my client horses I do tons of work in the back field, away from distractions, fences and everything. For the last couple of rides Myself and Robin have been going out back to just focus on herself and her ride today was fantastic! She didn’t seem different at all at the beginning of the ride, we did our w/t circle she seemed forward as usual then I asked for her canter she picked it up within 2 steps and she sped up for a minute, then I steadied her and boom there it was... she relaxed! Wasn’t breathing like a dragon, wasn’t trying to run through my reins, rather she was calm collected and focused! I was so proud of her today!! I can’t wait for her to further her progress and grow into the horse I know she can be!! #breakthrough #tryinghard #superproud #therearentenoughwords #proudttainer
Darkside had a nice clean run today! Footing was a little slick but we stayed up and so did our barrels so all in all a good run!
Handy was such a good boy, a little nervous with how deep he sunk in the sand pile but eventually we were going through them like a pro!!
I love this little 3 yr old, boomer is such a rockstar! Look at those woahs, so much talent and potential! Can’t wait to watch him grow into a fine young man, gonna miss him tho 🙃
