It’s fairly common to see people carrying their dogs in bags, especially when it comes to smaller breeds. Though it might seem like a really simple and practical solution, carrying your pet can lead to issues if they start to spend more time in the bag than on their own four paws. While your pet might enjoy being carried, no animal should spend all day in a bag.

Carrying your pet can be a really good idea in winter. Some smaller breeds are unable to withstand cold temperatures, and carrying them in a warm bag can be a good alternative. In summer, however, we would advise against carrying your pet in a bag. Keeping your dog shut in a confined space during hot weather can cause great distress, and poses a serious risk to their health.

Carrying your dog in a bag can also allow you to take your pet into places they wouldn’t normally be allowed to go. There are many areas and businesses that won’t allow pets unless they’re in a bag or carrier. This is a really simple and practical way to ensure you can take your pet with you wherever you go.

Automatic pet feeders can make life a little easier for busy pet owners and may also help your pet lose excess body weight. Pets can be demanding at meal times, since they are creatures of habit that easily remember when to expect food.

By automating this process with an automatic feeder, it not only frees you up to do other things when your pet is expecting a meal but it also ensures the portions are always appropriate.
Automatic feeders are pre-programmed units that are pre-loaded with several meals at a time. Automatic feeders dispense a specific amount of food at a programmed time into a bowl for your pet to eat. Some people use them on a daily basis, while others only utilize them when they are gone from the home for extended periods of time.

By using an automatic feeder, owners know exactly how often their pet is being offered food and can also control the amount it is getting. It makes caring for a pet much easier and eliminates the concern for overfeeding or a pet sitter forgetting to feed.

For many pet owners (and their dogs, for that matter), trimming the nails is one of the most dreaded parts of the grooming process.

Some pet owners prefer to use a grinding tool. This method of trimming can be quite effective, although using a grinder necessitates doing the job more often. But, many dogs are quite relaxed around the tool.

• Before trying the grinder, turn the tool on several times (over days or weeks) while sitting beside your dog to get them used to the sound
• Always be in control of the grinding session; do not let your dog decide that the job is complete
• Cut the fur around the nails first so that you do not catch it in the grinder
• Praise your patient dog and give a treat when done

While on average most dogs will need to have their nails trimmed every 1-2 months, it can be more frequently – even as often as once per week – for senior dogs.

A dog’s nails are important parts of their anatomy. Essentially, having long nails changes the way a dog carries themselves, which can cause damage to their skeletal system.

The body harness was first developed for working dogs who pulled heavy loads. It’s designed to evenly distribute pressure from a leash throughout a dog’s body, making it more comfortable for the dog to pull.
Best uses for body harnesses-
Small dogs, cats, and puppies whose fragile necks and spines could easily be hurt by a sudden sharp pull on a leash are prime candidates for body harnesses. These harnesses are also great for older arthritic dogs who need help standing up—a body harness won’t force too much pressure on any one spot.

In most cases, a dog harness is the safest choice for walking your pet on a leash, controlling behavior in public, and riding in the car. But a collar can also be appropriate under certain circumstances.
Dog harnesses come in many different sizes and styles. It's important to consider all of your options and choose the harness that works best for you and your dog.

Does Your Dog Need A Dog Bed?
Even if your dog is allowed to sleep with you in your human bed, every dog should have a bed of their own.

There are plenty of benefits to having dog beds. They can be used for napping during the day and sleeping in at night.
Unlike the floor, a bed will keep your dog warm, support arthritic joints, and prevent calluses. And unlike a couch or human bed, dog beds are spaces that pups can have all to themselves.

And if you’re allergic to your dogs, then it’s best if they sleep somewhere besides your bed.
Dog beds can also be taken with you when you travel so that your dog feels comfortable and is able to sleep somewhere familiar. They’ll rest easier and feel less anxiety.
Dog beds are also usually easy to wash, which makes life easier if your dog has accidents, gets infested with fleas or mites, or just rolls in something stinky.
Dog beds can be as simple as your old pillow or as fancy as a wrought-iron frame with a lace canopy. Your selection depends on your taste, budget, and decor

Keep an eye on where your dog feels most comfortable, as this can help you decide which bed will be best.

Shopping for Cat Backpacks

When it comes to a cat backpack, not just any bag will do—you’re going to need to make sure it has all of the features that truly make it a perfect fit.

Durability: Make sure there’s a frame that can support your kitty—and look out for specific weight maximums for every bag. You’ll also want to ensure that the fabric is thick enough to hold up against cat claws.
Convenience: The backpack should be easy to use, meaning that it’s not impossible to get your cat in or out of the bag. Pockets are great for storing treats and other necessities, and some even come with a special collapsible water dish.
Comfort: Make sure the bag is actually comfortable for you to wear. Wide shoulder straps and even chest straps can help distribute the weight. The backpack should also be comfy for your cat, meaning it should be fairly roomy, and even have a pad for extra comfort.
Ventilation: Since kitties can get seriously overheated in a confined space, it’s essential that the bag has plenty of opportunity for airflow. Mesh windows are helpful for keeping cats cool and they also let them enjoy the view outside. Make sure all fabrics are breathable and flexible.
Security: Make sure your cat stays inside! Zippers should lock, seams should be reinforced and secure, and some bags even have an internal leash that they can be clipped to for extra security (which of course is long enough so they can move, lie down, etc.).

What about flushing the litter down the toilet? Should you do it? Well, no, it isn’t the best idea. It might end up doing damage to your plumbing or the sewer/septic system.
Also, flushing the kitty waste might spread bacteria and parasites in the water supply, and that can put people’s health at risk. And, finally, flushing cat litter might lead to environmental contamination as well.
So it’s definitely worth doing your research before deciding to flush any litter to get rid of it.

Keeping bags of used litter in a closed garbage bin with a sturdy lid is best, especially when it’s kept outside.

If you start to notice that, despite washing the litter box regularly, you aren’t able to completely get rid of odors, it’s probably time to replace it with a new one.

Consider trying litter deodorizers, but keep in mind that a lot of cats don’t like heavy fragrances, so it’s a good idea to try unscented products. Or, you might want to try adding some baking soda to your cat’s litter to help keep it smelling fresher.

We love picking up their p**p…..said no one EVER!

That is the one little thing that every pet parent across the globe would gladly hand over for someone else to do.

Contrary to some people believe, dog p**p is not a natural fertilizer! Dog waste is actually so high in nitrogen and phosphorus that it can have the opposite effect of fertilizer. It can kill grass and even some plants.

Not picking up your dogs waste can put other people and their dogs at risk of getting sick. Dog waste can remain in soil for years.

So now you might be reading this thinking “hang on a second I am one of the good guys who always pick up my dog’s doo-doo”…and we thank you for doing that.

Use a p**per scooper or spade to pick up your dog’s p**p at home or outside. When out on a walk use a p**p bag. Remember though, not all p**p bags are what they claim to be; most are made of plastic (not very eco-friendly), look for environmentally friendly biodegradable compostable p**p bags.

Health Advantages of Pet grooming

Grooming is not a luxury but a necessity for your pets. Booking your dog regularly for professional grooming does not only make them smell and look great but it is also important to their health.

Long nails are associated with problems like they create discomfort to your pet while walking. Thus, they will need a nail trim at least once a month.

Like humans, pets also have different needs. For instance, long hair will need different grooming supplies than those with short hair. Professional groomers know this, so they only make use of the most suitable grooming supplies such as shampoos and conditioners made specifically for them, so it doesn’t irritate their skin.

Just brushing alone helps to remove dead skin and dirt. It helps to spread the natural oils over their coat, making it shinier and healthier.

Your pet’s soft and warm fur is a perfect environment for these parasites. Ticks are removed during the drying process. While doing so, groomers will remove the entire dead coat and check for anything unusual. This way, any serious problems can be detected.
