I know I'm terrible about posting and I always promise to do better but we've been busy! We had three litters within just a few weeks. If you've raised puppies then you know how much work ONE litter is. Our first litter was born Oct. 17th and are so stinking cute! They are still on puppy mush but we are gradually weaning them to hard food. They are silly, playful, sweet, and curious! Here is a peek of their pictures! 💕🥰💕

Did you know there is a definite difference between a male and female? While there truly is!

 Male vs. Female

Does a male or a female make a better pet for you and your family?

It’s not uncommon for people to believe that a female dog will make a better pet. We get a lot of calls for people wanting that “special little girl”. For whatever reason they don’t think that females will exhibit “alpha” behaviors like hu***ng and/or marking. A lot of people think that females are more passive and friendly and that they don’t take part in fighting over dominance, which could NOT be farther from the truth. If you check out the structure of dog packs, the females determine the pecking order and rule the roost. The result of that behavior is that the females become more stubborn, independent, and territorial than the males. These females are much more intent on exercising their control by participating in that “alpha” behavior like hu***ng. Most fighting will usually break out between two females.

Males tend to be more affectionate, exuberant, attentive, and even more demanding of attention. The males are very attached to their owners, tending to be more dedicated, reliable and less temperamental. They are more sociable, more accepting of other pets, playful for years, and take quicker to children. Most boys are easily motivated by treats/food, words of praise and are so eager to please that training actually becomes easier. Their playful nature, however, can make males more easily distracted. The boys are more likely to act silly and more puppy-like, always wanting to play games, no matter what their age. The boys are fun-loving until the day they die, whereas girls tend to be more standoffish and dignified the older they get.

Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as marking and lifting their legs or hu***ng. Once the testosterone levels recede after neutering, most of these behaviors will disappear if they ever existed. Boys who were neutered early (by five months of age) usually don’t ever raise their leg to urinate. Early spay or neutering is not best for your dog ! Please do your research and consult your vet!!

So before making your decision on that age old dilemma of male verses female, hopefully this will give you some helpful info to think about.

Pig and Kramer's litter is 3 weeks old today. Their eyes are open and they starting to try to walk around. It won't be much longer before we have to take the pool out of the pen, otherwise they will climb out on their own. We will be starting then on puppy mush very soon. Honestly, this is such a gorgeous litter!

It was a busy night here. While we were running some errands tonight Pig decided to go into labor. When we got home, she had already had two puppies. We were here to help out with the rest of the whelping. So far all is well. 6 total puppies, 4 males and 2 females.

This has to be one of my all time favorites. Does it get any cuter than this? He's learning early!!

Meet Gracie. Gracie is one of our former moms. On the morning of April 28th, she woke up with her rear legs completely paralyzed. All she could do was scoot herself forward with her front legs. I immediately took her to the vet who gave her some meds and told us she needed immediate surgery on her back for IVDD - Intervertebral Disk Disease. Dachshunds are the poster child for IVDD. Two days later, on the morning of her surgery, she was better but her back legs were still useless. She had the surgery on her back and after 6 weeks of strict crate rest, she has been released by the doctor. She can walk again! Yes, it is a sloppy walk but she will continue to heal over the next 6 months. We bought her a life jacket and she has started doing therapy in the pool to strengthen those rear legs. She loves swimming now and can't stand to not be in the pool (see the video!) We hope that one day she will even be able to run again. For now, we are thankful for small miracles. Gracie has officially been retired and will be a spoiled girl with us as her back cannot handle any more pregnancies.

Wondering where we got the name for our breeding business? We thought about it for a long time and came up with the idea of River's Edge Dachshunds. But somehow it just didn't feel right. So we kept brainstorming until we realized the answer was in our own back yard. Literally. That's right. This beautiful creek right here in the salt marshes of the Georgia coast. Best of all, this view is just a few steps out our back door. The only thing that would make it better were if there were a dachshund in it! Photo credit goes to God and Ron Smith who snapped the picture with his iphone. No filters or photo shopping. Just God's majestic beauty.

Hey everybody! Thanks for checking us out! This page is long overdue. I've been getting requests for this page for a while now but I never seemed to have the time to create it. Now that school is out, I wanted to make this a priority. Finally, it is here!

Some people know that we made the decision to breed dachshunds a few years ago. I mean, what's not to love about a dachshund? Their long backs? Short legs? Sassy attitudes? The digging in the yard? Or is it the constant barking? 😁

Either way, we jumped in with two feet. We love our furry friends and we hope you will too!
