We are being advised that Parvo cases are on the rise again. If your dogs aren’t vaccinated (routinely seen by a vet and given their shots) please get your pets up to date. If you have a new puppy or young dog it is especially vital. None of the vets on the island want to loose patients to this preventable disease.

Unfortunately due to covid, we have had to make the decision to cancel the upcoming parvovirus/ dog vaccine clinics. Fortunately a number of veterinarians (veterinary hospitals) who’s staff have been volunteering their time, are willing to assist with administering booster vaccinations. If your dog got it’s first vaccine at bullshead or Southampton Princess. You can call one of the following vets during office hours, to book a time and date for your dogs booster vaccine. We ask that you bring your vaccine card with you. The $25 will be honored for the vaccination and vaccines will be given in a similar manor as at the vaccination clinics. If you feel your dog needs more examination or you wish to discuss health issues this should be booked with one of the hospitals as a routine appointment and not a vaccine clinic booster. We are sorry for the inconvenience the BVA endeavors to support both the human hospital and the veterinary hospitals by reducing covid transmission risks for staff and volunteers.

Participating veterinarians…

154 vaccines given today at the vaccine clinic. We will announce the next venue soon. Please remember these vaccinations are the same ones that your regular veterinarian gives.

If your dog goes to a vet already you likely don’t need to come to the vaccine clinic, you can check with your vet.

These clinics are being held predominantly for unvaccinated dogs!

We would like to thank all the volunteers vets and veterinary nurses from Cedartree, Endsmeet and Ettrick made our teams doing the vaccinations. Non-medical veterinary staff, the SPCA, the dog training club, working dog club did a fantastic job directing traffic, getting forms fille out etc. Many thanks also to the corporation of Hamilton for allowing use of Bullshead car park. All those needing their booster from today we will see you at Bullshead again on the 19th sept.

If your dog goes to a vet for vaccines you should already be covered for Parvovirus, if you are concerned please check with your vet!
The vaccine clinic is being aimed mainly for those dogs who don’t routinely manage to get veterinary care. By getting these dogs vaccinated we reduce spread and decrease risks for everyone!

Dogs normally get 2 doses of the full (dhlpp or Da2PP+L) vaccine then one a year later a full booster, lepto is an annual booster there after. Distemper, parvo, hepatitis (adenovirus), parainfluenza is every 3 years after the year booster. It may sound confusing but your veterinary team will have the schedule down for you. (Puppies usually receive 3 vaccines between 6-16 weeks old)

We have heard people are calling to see if this is a new vaccine, it is not if your dog is upto date with vaccines your dog should be covered 😊

The BVA just wants to keep your dogs safe regardless of their licensing status. See the below publication, including the government vet/ministry press release "We encourage all owners of unvaccinated dogs, whether legal, illegal, licensed or unlicensed, to take advantage of this opportunity. Animal Wardens will not be present at the clinics, and we will not question you on the legality of your animals."
