The Sporting Horse Australia season is well underway and both horses are excited to be back at it.
Minty was powered by rocket fuel at the Geelong Show and had nonstop energy:

4th bend race
🥇 stake race
🥇 flag race
🥉 barrel race
🏆 crowning him overall open champion

Bert also raced well and managed to pick up a 🥈 in the HRV Hero bend and barrel race, ridden by Emily Melville and a 4th in the stake race ridden by Mads Smith.

Wow 🥺 what a night the 2023/2024 Sporting Horse Australia awards night was.
Minty was sidelined for half of the season due to injury and has exceeded any expectations and has outdone himself once again.
Not even his stablemate, Be On The Sly, who competed the whole season could trump him and take away his back to back win in the HRV Hero championship series!
Minty placed in every event for the overall horse of the year:

🥉 stake race
4th flag and barrel race
🥉 barrel race
🏆 HRV hero champion
🏆 Scott Warren memorial award

Bert also had a great season and was awarded reserve champion Hero horse of the year.
Both myself and the horses are looking forward to the next season already!

We were back out barrel racing this past weekend in Pakenham South.
Minty being his usual consistent self and showing that no injury is going to slow him down.

It was Minty's first competition back on the weekend after injury at NBHA Vic D1 - Merrijig Barrel Racing and he showed how much he enjoys his job.
🥇 in the 2D costume barrel race
Round 7 barrels: 🥉 in the 2D
Round 7 poles: 🥉

Bert also had a very good day, picking up his first cheque in barrel racing!! (video will be in comments)
Round 8 barrels: 🥈 in the 5D
He has earnt himself a very well deserved holiday. Bert has been an interesting horse to work with. He can throw down a decent tantrum and it is like noone is home, this is bad Bert. But when good Bert comes along, which is becoming more often, he is a smart, trainable horse that wants to please.

It has been 8 weeks since Minty got his foot stuck in the bottom wire and pulled back. He has been the best patient and has handled his recovery well. He has been back in work and hoping to be back doing what he enjoys very soon 🤞🏻

Bert was a lone ranger at Addicted to SPEED Barrel Racing at Waubra yesterday, Minty is not quite ready for a big run yet but getting closer and recovering very well.
Althought Bert is getting around the course quicker, he still requires alot more training and education to fine tune his new career.

This week, more so today in particular, havent been very kind. On tuesday, what they are calling a category 2 cyclone went through, no phone reception and no power and both Bert and Minty sustaining minor (very minor compared to today) injuries.
Today, Minty decided getting caught in the bottom wire of the fence would be a great idea 😢
A massive thank you to Gippsland Veterinary Group - Equine for coming out immediately, in a challenging road system with trees and powerlines still down.
Luckily he has not cut down to the bone or severed a tendon but did damage some cartilage, which was removed and slightly damaged his coronet band.
Hopefully Minty can keep himself still enough for a speedy recovery 🤞🏻

New year & new achievements 🎉

Our first competition back for 2024 and Minty has started it off with a bang!! Placing 4th in the barrel race at the Neerim rodeo and picking up our first rodeo cheque 💰

The last few days has seen Minty and Bert at a campdraft. Although both boys struggled with the cows in the camp, Bert stepped up his game and got a cow out of the camp and towards the first peg.
Minty would much prefer to enter a camp and go straight into a barrel race instead of chasing cows.

It was a big weekend of barrel racing festivities at NBHA Vic D1 - Merrijig Barrel Racing
Saturday night was the end of season awards for 2023.
Minty has consistently ran 1 second slower than the top horses that compete here over the 9 rounds for the season.
His consistency and reliability of running the same pattern everytime meant that he was in the winners circle:

🏆 open 3D champion
🏆 open rookie
🏆 open pole bending champion (for the 2nd year in a row)

This weekend also consisted of the NBHA Victoria state show where we had two rounds to qualify in to make the final.
Minty once again being the noble steed!

As usual, Minty has been super consistent throughout this series and put down some good runs!

It was a massive weekend of horse activities!
Two days of Sporting Horse Australia at Bendigo show, followed by barrel racing in Bacchus Marsh at the South-West Victoria Barrel Race-ABHA
It was Bert's first outing at a show and he handled the monster trucks, rides and fireworks very well. A massive thank you to 13 year old Emily Melville for piloting Bert in the HRV HERO bend races, her first time riding Bert!

Minty was a superstar as usual 🤩
