Thank goodness Mona was here this weekend to help me decorate for the upcoming holidays.
Well, Dilly has made herself right at home with us. I love that she has learned how to settle and what's not to love about a comfy couch?
Welcome Dilly!! She and I have spent the afternoon playing so that we can get to training. I'm excited to help her and her family live their best lives together.
My favorite exploring buddy who makes me find parks every where I go. An employee who showed up for me whenever asked. And my hunter who found me every gecko I never knew I needed. Thank you for sharing five years with me.
In the beginning, when a new dog comes into train, they are given limited opportunities to make a bad choice in my space. The more I set any dog up to make the right choice, the more they grow in confidence which allows me to expand their horizons a little bit more the next time. Today is a day that has shown me Amaya has made progress. She is in my living space with my girl, Daisy. They are both sleeping away and I am coming and going as I please. A week ago, this dog was having panic attacks when I left the room and did not settle unless she was exhausted and I was by her side. I am so happy for Amaya.
Just me and my little buddy hanging out on the back porch. Amaya is a petite 100lb great dane who is skittish around new people and experiences. She and I have become best buds this week. We are working hard on letting her know that life has great things in store for her.
Saturday's class has a theme. If you have ever been a client with me, I would love to see you again at group class. I am always doing my best to educate myself so that I can support you in any way that I can. Please let me welcome you back to the training fold, and I will show you how this concept SOLVES many issues. Message me to let me know you are coming. If you are not a current client and are intrigued, give me a call at 210-588-0334 or dm me.
This was my post on my personal page this morning. PLEASE, for all of us, be careful out there as a walker and as a driver.
Not only do I ask clients to do the relaxation work, I do it too. It has made such a HUGE difference in Taco's life. Daisy, to the right, is just starting out. Tonight was her first one. Took her two hours, but she made it. Taco is so used to the set up, he came over to support both of us through it!
Argo has 7 year olds who live him. We have all been handling him as much as possible to get his manners up to s***f.
Theo and I are going to be as thick as thieves. He's offering his assistance while I do computer work.
Good day from Lonestar. We just came in from playing and exploring outside. Now it is time to relax while I do some computer work.
Thanks for a great learning experience with Adam Gibson at Top Dog TX. I am ready to get started on creating a new group experience that will be fun and exciting to reach and help even more people with their dogs. Stay tuned or more information.
Has this weather been awesome or what?! Hope you have had a chance to get out and enjoy it!!
Look at this guy!! How great that Chocolate can go out into the world and live his best life. I am so happy for him and his owners for implementing training and following through to get the results that allow them to do thinga like this.
I am always trying to learn new material to help me be the best I can be for my clients and their dogs. In reading "Control Unleashed" by Leslie McDevitt, I came across this quote. Every situation with your dog will not go as expected. Life is planned and unplanned. Just remember, you are both doing the best you can in each situation. Temporarily lowering both of your expectations will help in the long run.
Lola is working on sitting away from me. She's trying do hard and likes learning new stuff.
In Saturday's class, a client said that their dog always behaves with this group of dogs and people. Great! You're coming to class and showing your dog that you have their back which helps them feel safe and builds(yours and their) confidence. We've changed up the location on both of you and now you're putting your previous experience to good work. We can't train for EVERY situation, but we can fine tune our dog's behavior in many situations so that when it goes sideways, we can rely on our solid foundation.
Lola LOVES people and all the energy we bring with us. She has been learning how to behave to get some pets. This is from the beginning of her training. The reality is that she is a puppy who is going to offer the best behavior available to her. And that behavior isn't going to always be perfect. Our job is to help her be the best she can be in each situation.
I think I'm gonna call it a day. Whew!
Chocolate has finished week one of advanced obedience with me. He is home for the weekend so that his owners can work on maintaing the foundation one piece at a time. He'll be back on Monday so we can build that muscle memory and increase his opportunities for success in any environment.
Lola is out covering new and exciting ground today. This trip was only about 15-20 minutes and we didn't "walk" very far. Note: this excursion isn't for the human but for the dog. Leave on a high note and don't push the envelope.
Welcome Lola! She is a very excitable puppy who likes to tell you all about her problems. Lola is very motivated by food and aims to please-two traits that make my life easier.
Annie, the 6 month old Portuguese water dog is working really hard on potty training. Here is a brief info graphic on how to achieve this. After a week, today she woke up, peed and pooped immediately outside. I asked her to "Go potty" today and she humored me each time. Yahoo!! This is still a work in progress, but it is so worth it.
Ollie is a regular for daycare with me. He has the privilege of getting out and about while we work on him behaving in all different locations. It is wonderful to see him excel while making sure he is comfortable in situations that he thinks are safe.
My annual post for Rascal's birthday. He turned 12 this year and he has slowed down quite a bit. He doesn't walk the distances he used to but still likes to have a short jaunt around the ball fields. I make sure he goes out early or late for his walks so he doesn't overheat. He still is a loveable ball of fluff.

How do I get dogs excited to work with me? FOOD! I talk to my clients about ditching their dog's food bowl and coming up with more creative ways to feed their dog. Here is a healthy and really easy enrichment idea for your dog in their kennel. #barktrainwagdogtraining #btwdogtraining #sadogs #sanantoniodogs #sanantoniodogtraining #setusupforsuccess
How do I support the dogs and the clients who own them? Lots of information and videos. In this video, I am explaining to Amaya's parents how I got Amaya to be sticky to this bed. We are laying the foundation to support Amaya and help her relax more efficiently and quickly. It has only been a week and I am guiding her and her parents through the system that will continue to give all of them support throughout their relationship. #barktainwag #btwdogtraining #setherupforsuccess #sanantoniodogtrainer #sanantoniodogs

What do you want your new year to look like between you and your dog? There is always something to work on even if it entails playing more with my dog. How can I help you fine tune your relationship with your dog? Want to know how to play tug or ball with your dog? Do you want your dog to stop jumping on people? Would you like your walks to be less hectic? We can do that. My goals are individual and specific to each of my dogs. I am going to work on less anxiety for Taco and increase Daisy's repertoire of commands through play. Rascal is my senior dog and I want to spend more one on one time with him. Will I succeed daily? Nope. Will I try again tomorrow? You bet. We'll keep plugging along and enjoy the process while learning along the way. #btwdogtraining #BarkTrainWagDogTraining #sadogs #sanantoniodogtrainers #sanantoniodogs #setusupforSUCCESS
Week 2 of Dottie's hybrid board and train. Monday through Friday, she's hard at work with me. Dottie went home over the weekend to have some family time and to slowly introduce her new lifestyle. She's back at it with me this week. #barktrainwagdogtraining #btwdogtraining #sadogs #sanantoniodogtraining #sanantoniodogs #sanantoniodogtrainers #setherupforSUCCESS
Angel's heading home today. We're excited to show her family what she has learned and how to successfully keep it up. #barktrainwagdogtraining #btwdogtraining #setherupforSUCCESS #sadogs #sanantoniodogs #sanantoniodogtraining
Sometimes we support our dogs by helping them make good choices. We set up situations where our dog has the opportunity to have success which builds confidence and helps to have even more success down the line. Who doesn't love to be empowered? The coolest part of empowerment is the staying power of the good choice your dog makes. When the dog "comes up" with the solution on their own, the connection sticks and you will see the positive outcome again and again. #btwdogtraining #setusupforSUCCESS #sadogs #sanantoniodogtrainers #sanantoniodogs
I have been posting a lot about this technique with Gryf. Here is a video with some how to directions. This will benefit any dog, especially ones with behavioral issues. Any dog of any age is capable of doing this as well. It is great opportunity to teach puppies to learn how to relax. A behavioral down helps them settle faster and the dog brings the calm it produces to other areas of it's life. We help them come less hectic and less unpredictable while creating resiliency with a behavioral down.
Gryf and the Roomba Gryf has gotten used to me and I have taken the muzzle off. He sees me as trustworthy, dependable and predictable. Now, we can start the process of getting into some deeper work. Gryf is learning not to blow up at things and then make a run for it. #btwdogtraining #sanantoniodogtraining #dogtrainersofsanantonio #DogsOfSanAntonio #Sethimupforsuccess #DogsOfSA
Gryf and naming body parts. Sometimes, we need a dog to feel comfortable with us touching them. Think of the vet tech, the groomer, a family member. Gryf was NOT a fan of me touching him when he came in to board and train. This exercise allows him to get comfortable with being hand fed, me touching and then praising him to help boost his confidence. #btwdogtraining #sanantoniodogtraining #Sethimupforsuccess #DogsOfSanAntonio #dogtrainersofsanantonio #DogsOfSA
