Dogs don't understand maybe. They don't understand the middle ground. They understand yes and no. Make it easy for them. Expect perfection! When you hold your dog's performance to a certain criteria, they respect that. Whether it's lying on the couch without moving off of the towel or a perfect Obedience Finish. Read more about why this is easier for your dog: https://2-minute-trainer.com/2025/06/20/expect-perfection/

Lots of the games we play with our dogs build on each other. Or we'll take parts of one game and add it to parts of another game and have a whole new game. That's the beauty of rewarding for all the little stuff. Take the hand touch and turn it into circles. Or going back to stand at my side. Take going to mat and turn that into an awesome Stay. Start with the games. Play any and all of them. And then figure out if they can be used to teach something else. https://2-minute-trainer.com/2025/06/06/whats-this-game-good-for/

The hyper ones are the most fun. Booker was hyper - not so much now that he's 12 (although he has his moments). But he earned the most performance titles in more sports than my other dogs. Of course, playing Keep Away on the Agility course was not fun. But we played training games and we both learned. Also, there's a game for that. We've got loads of fun training games, and they're all good for something. Even Put Your Toys Away! Some you may have forgotten, but they're still useful.
