One of my favourite things to do with puppies is using the environment to expose them to all the weird things we do.

People ask, “why a slide?”
I say, why not?!

It takes trust for a puppy to follow through something like this, even though at first Sniper wasn’t too sure about it. After watching my puppy do it a couple times and some great encouragement from his owners, look at him go!

I truly believe it’s important for puppies to learn to push thru certain stressors in order to grow and gain more confidence. Just like us humans! Of course we want to make it as fun as possible and take it step by step.

Now Sniper is a pro! Better look out for him at your local playground 🛝 😎

Reviews like this warm my heart. I love seeing the progression from the first session until “graduation” day.

To think Duke was unmanageable around people (and dogs) so much that his owner struggled to hold him back (100+ lbs boy!) and weren’t able to walk him, lunging at the fence, and being afraid of everyone.

It’s so important as a trainer to praise not only the dog but the owners who have put an immense amount of work into their training. There’s no way Duke would have progressed and improved to the level he’s at now if it wasn’t for his owner. Huge kudos and congratulations are in order. Great work Leticia 🤩

I love when I get updates from clients that I trained back home in Saskatchewan ❤️ it’s by far one of the most rewarding feelings to know your clients continue to do their work and enjoy their dog at their fullest potential!

This boy Zuko was a major puller, a bit of a wild child 😜 and needed some structure and guidance on how to be the best possible dog for his family 👨‍👩‍👧

Thank you Kristen & Grant for this lovely video update. I am beyond proud of you guys and Zuko 🐾❤️

Back to pack intros 👇🏻

Meet my Australian Shepherd, Sly.

I got Sly at the age of 10 weeks from a lovely young lady who had purchased him at 8 weeks from ranch owners in Saskatchewan, but soon found out she was not the ideal owner for him. I had always wanted to own an Aussie, and a blue merle to boot. It was meant to be!

Sly is now 6 years old and boy has this boy surpassed what I ever thought possible with him.

So far, Sly has been my go to dog for just about everything - he can do it all. We started off with tree climbing, some herding, tricks and OB. Progressed onto disc, parkour, some agility, dock diving, service work for me, wall climb, dabbled in weight pull, scent work, barn hunt and my personal favourite to date has been PSA (Protection Sport Association). This has been the highlight of his sport career to date by far. At our first trial he passed his PDC-SD! Through all that, he’s been my go to demo dog with clients, at events and for fun.

Sly has dedicated himself to anything we do together. Always enthusiastic and giving his 110% into it. I’m hoping to work on titling him in OB, parkour, tricks, barn hunt and dock diving. By now, he should be titled in 3 Parkour levels but I always forget to submit his videos 😅 and we are currently waiting on his beginner to expert trick titles to be approved!

Sly has truly been an amazing dog to me. He’s helped me progress in my training career and allowed me to try out so many different sports. I owe this dog the world!

Bragging rights are definitely in order for this big boy!

Almost 3 weeks ago, there was no way Duke and his owners would have been able to achieve this.

I am beyond proud of their progress and the amount of practice his owner dedicates on a daily basis!

From severely reactive to this?? Hell yeah! 👏🏻💪🏻

I’m a huge advocate for the “ditch the bowl” approach. There are many aspects of it that I like such as hand feeding, puzzles, mats, etc. My preferred method is hand feeding. Here’s why 👇🏻

When dogs see their food, they get excited. They know their bowl means meal time. That food is valuable to them, and you’re pouring it straight into the bowl.

So their happy experience of eating in that bowl last however long it takes for them to finish it. Then it’s over. Basically, they’ve learnt to pay all their attention to their food bowl. It’s easy, quick and they don’t have to work for it.

Imagine your dog paying attention and having that much excitement over you? Sounds great right? It’s simple and fun!

1 - put their daily portion into a bag or multiple bags throughout the house (you can also put a bag in a purse, pouch, car, depending on what you’re planning for the day).

2 - Reward when your dog offers behaviours that you find useful/valuable (i.e. relaxing on their bed rather than being in between your legs)

3 - Take some food with you on your walks. Reward focus and attention on you around distractions.

4 - reward when teaching new tricks.

Ultimately, “Ditch the Bowl” method is great for working on your relationship with your dog and adding more value to yourself. There are other ways to do so but this is a great start!

Ditch your bowl and have fun!

Figured it was time to introduce my crew, and what better way to do so but with the one who sparked my passion for training!

Everyone meet my Border Collie, Echo.

I got Echo at the age of 12 weeks from a family that owned a farm back in Saskatchewan. There were only two pups left from the litter, her and a male. I had originally wanted a male but something about those eyes caught my attention.

Next month, she is turning 9. The years have gone by so quickly but I’m thankful she’s still a happy girl with lots of enthusiasm for life.

Throughout the years, Echo and I have done a ton together. Started off with tricks and tree climbing, then disc and freestyle and we’ve dabbled in agility, herding and dock diving. I’d say her favourite (according to her enthusiasm level 😋) would be parkour, tree climbing, disc and herding. Boy did she excel and rock it too!

A year and a half or so into our journey, I decided to give her a shot for service work. I have certain disabilities that at the time I struggled to cope with on my own. She truly did a fantastic job. I retired her few years but thankfully she still at times perform tasks at home.

And now, most of our sports and activities have unfortunately come to a end. Echo was diagnosed with “cranial shoulder subluxation to luxation” in her right shoulder last year. Therefore, we can’t do a whole lot of the high impact activities we used to do together. But she does get to enjoy life in other ways! Swimming, playing fetch (in water only, or deep fresh snow), light parkour, tricks, and hiking. I do miss playing disc and freestyling with her though. It was some of the best times we’ve had together!

Regardless, the love I have for this dog is indescribable. She has been there for so many hard times, and good times! I’m hoping for another 9 years together 🤞🏻🥹❤️

How do you properly socialize a puppy? 👇🏻 Here’s a couple simple DOs & DON’Ts!

✅ Expose to sights and sounds (i.e. vacuums, other animals at safe distance, power tools, bikes, etc.)

❌ Force interactions with dogs and/or people ❌

✅ Practice relaxed behaviour around stimulating situations

❌ Don’t be boring!

✅ Reinforce good behaviours!

Although there are many other things you can do with your pups to properly socialize them, the most important is to remember to keep it fun and reward those good behaviours!
