Hangtown Kennel Club Hangtown Kennel Club is an AKC-licensed All-Breed Dog Club located in Placerville, California, USA. We hold an AKC sanctioned agility trial each September.

Placerville is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, and was the first of thirty mining camps to spring up around Coloma, where gold was discovered by James Marshall in 1848. Our club's name refers to one of Placerville's original place names, "Old Hangtown." Our members come from all walks of life and represent a wide variety of breeds. Many club members are actively involved in AKC

competition events such as conformation, obedience, hunting tests, rally, and agility trials, spending their weekends at events throughout the USA. Other members keep their faithful pooches closer to home and belong to the club to learn more about dogs and to share in the camaraderie among our members. We hold two AKC All-Breed, Obedience and Rally Dog Shows each year during the last weekend in May (Memorial Day). These are held in conjunction with The Kennel Club of the California Sierra, making it a 3-day show known as the Hangtown Sierra Cluster. We teach Obedience and Conformation classes throughout the Spring and Summer months (outdoors). We participate in many community activities, including visits to local retirement homes with our dogs breed and obedience demonstrations at local events. We also hold annual Rattlesnake Avoidance Clinics, which teach your dog to avoid a deadly rattlesnake bite. We hold an annual AKC Sanctioned Match each year.

A huge thank you going out to all of the participants at our Match yesterday! A gorgeous day at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds and so many lovely dogs. My personal thanks to all of you who cleaned up after your dogs. I was the “poop patrol” person along with Renee Owen after the match wrapped up and we found ZERO to clean up. You all were rock stars and we look forward to seeing you back on Memorial Day weekend for the Hangtown/Sierra cluster!

Hangtown Kennel Club members visit the local senior living center with their dogs. The residents really enjoyed their time with the dogs.

And yet another wonderful visit with at least nine residents, plus staff at Eskaton Village in Placerville today. Joining Diego and I were Linda with Tippy the Border Collie, Joni with Annie the Havanese & Sherry with Whitney the Samoyed. Tippy & Annie wowed the crowd with their tricks. Until next time….

The 2023 HKC therapy dog visits came to a close with a visit to Eskaton Village in Placerville this morning. Visiting with several residents, staff & guests in the lobby were HKC members Sherry with Cruise the Samoyed, Joni with Annie & Jack Jack the Havanese and Dennis with Diego the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno. Great visit. Plenty of Christmas decorations & Christmas attire worn by residents, staff dogs & handlers. Very festive indeed. On behalf of Annie & Jack Jack, Joni gave out Christmas cards to the residents. Eskaton resident Audrey came bearing Christmas gifts for the therapy dogs. That was nice & totally unexpected. Thank you Audrey! Merry Christmas to all!

The following HKC members & their dogs participated in a therapy dog visit to Eskaton Village in Placerville on Saturday ; Joni with Annie & Jack Jack the Havanese, Sherry with Crusie the Samoyed, Linda with Tippy the Border Collie & Dennis with Diego the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno. Though it was busy with lots of activity in the lobby, it was another great visit with residents, staff & lots of guests coming & going. This was Jack Jack the Havanese first visit & he did great for a six month old puppy. Having big sister Annie the Havanese to show him the ropes was appreciated. The show stopper was the expression on Jack Jack’s face while lying next to a resident that was priceless. He was really enjoying himself & had no intention of leaving.
