Showmanship and body conditioning down! (This is just the last half of the pattern) she blew me away with how good she did! Can’t wait for trail next.
Ride 18: We’ve spent the last few rides getting her head down in the walk and trot. Today we transferred that into the canter and I’m so happy with her! She’s been starting to get a lot more balanced and listening much better! We also worked on side passing and staying on the rail. Today was definitely our best ride yet!!
Day 57: a day over half way through the competition!
At trainers day one of Annies biggest problems was not wanting to move forward and not paying attention when asking to switch directions so that’s all we worked on today. Lots of sending her through new things and I’m so happy with her today!
Day 36:
Ride #3! We had our first trot.
There was a lot going on at the barn and after being in her stall all day and all night she started pretty spooky, anxious, and not focused on me, but by the end there were moments of her walking with her head completely dropped, very relaxed, and a nice little trot.
Day 35:
We have good (ish) news!! Annie has been lame for about 3 weeks now and the farrier came out today and told me she has thin soles. Although this will take a few weeks to strengthen, its much better than a serious injury. This also means she will be moving to a stall because the sand in the round pen most likely was wearing them down.
Today was both of our first days ground driving... besides our failed attempt a week ago and I didn’t have the saddle so the lead ropes were all over the place so I just stopped until we could use the saddle again. After a few minutes she semi understood what I was asking... ignore the whip in my pants 😂 she needed some motivation and I didn’t have enough hands.
Day 28: We had our first ride!!
It could not have went more perfect! She was calm, comfortable, and trying to figure out what I was asking. What more could I ask for from a wild mustang I only touched 3 weeks ago! We only really did left circles... but I decided to stop on a good note after she’d took even just one step forward immediately after I asked.
Thank you Tami Platt for helping to keep us safe and for letting me use your tack!! ❤️
Day 20! First saddling! Obviously this won’t be the saddle I ride her in because it couldn’t fit her worse... but she did so so so so good!
I just have to share!! I've been working on having her face me so I walk 10-15 feet toward her butt until she faces me again and it started off with her taking some steps away but still turning towards me to her doing "haunch turns" and taking steps towards me with her front feet! I definitely think she thought it was a game because she loved it and even walked forward when she saw me come back to do it again with her.
She definitely gave them a run for their money!
