The weather this week has been weird! Went from t-shirt weather on Wednesday with a lovely walk along Tyningham onto the beach. Followed by Thursday into my woolly hat!

Today instead of where is he we played where is the ball. A good opportunity to engage that labrador brain and sense of smell. I hide the ball in long grass or in strange places and give him the "find it cue" great fun and mentally stimulating. X

Lovely walk yesterday the sun coming through the trees and lack of people! Made it delightful for the dogs. We practise recall a lot on our walks and encourage checking in with me. Sometimes they get a reward sometimes they don't!
Letting the dogs do dog stuff is so important sniffing, running checking in with each other are all signs of happy contented dogs in a group that works well together. No threats no egos.

It's not just walking dogs! It's about giving them the same fun they have with their owners in a safe way yet getting them out and helping with any issues they might have. I love my job!
So this boy likes to hide! I have to pretend I don't see him (it adds to his fun when you say to him that oh dear I've lost him!) I can then kick the ball and he bursts from the undergrowth!

What a lovely few days! We had a great morning on Tyningham beach on Wednesday morning! Some ball play in the sea. So lovely to be able to let them off the beach knowing they are so focused on you (or the ball!) LOL 😆

A different beach this afternoon, it was not as busy with tourists which meant the dogs could have a play. This combination of dogs have a ball each! Keeps my footballing skills up to date!

A wee hoolie on the beach this week. Spaniel v Collie playing ball. They are happy taking turns and share the ball. I love seeing the dogs enjoying themselves whether it is an on lead sniff walk, or off lead having a play. The dogs are always closely observed and watched.

Last video (promise) on the beach playing ball. I took my Basset with the lovely collie so she gets used to being with other dogs and to be fair all that's on Mikeys mind is running about he doesn't do ball games unless he's taking it off his brother!
Good walk on the beach and making the most of it before the holiday makers arrive!

What's more fun hunting for your ball (we don't play throw for the lab) or getting to know a new dog friend and understand that they won't take your ball and leave you alone. Vital when you are a bit worried about other dogs.

Well we had better weather this week coupled with low tides meant we could hit the beach on Wednesday. It was a bit misty but it meant the beach was deserted so playing ball was great fun!

Choosing a dog walker is almost,if not just as important as choosing a childminder! Dog walkers should, as a minimum, be insured and canine first aid trained. They should take time to find out about your dog and feedback anything they notice at the end of the walk. Ideally they should be disclosure/police checked.
Most importantly your dog should look forward to heading out for a walk with your walker. If not you need to find out why? Maybe they don't like going in the van, perhaps they don't like another dog in the group or the van. Perhaps they don't like group walks. Your walker should be willing and able to discuss any issues that your dog might have any try and help and if they can't refer you to another walker. Not all dogs are the same and dog walkers are no different!
Some don't advertise much and that could well be that they don't need to.
So saying that Kudos to all my fellow walkers who have walked clients dogs through one of the longest (feeling) wettest winter I can recall for a good few years! We have splashed through huge puddles, glooped through mud and avoided huge trees in the wind to give your dogs the best walks. We've got this!!! Better weather is coming!!!

When you have two new dogs and get their names wrong! Lol he was good enough to humour me!!
The reason for the long lines is with them being new to me I'm unsure of recall. So the long lines give me that edge as well as the treats! They are so good it won't be long until they are both off.

Well when you have had a sick note! You go back to your walks and your walker takes you a quiet walk to try and avoid you getting too wet! ...
So you find a stick and a hugggge puddle! Lol labradors and water!

Lovely walk yesterday! Huge rollers coming in but the Collies were happy. So nice to see dogs who lack confidence start to blossom. X

Back at work and a couple of lovely walks. Nice being on the beach and its not raining! Dogs seemed to enjoy the run on the beach.
Giving good quality walks and enrichment with loads of sniffing is part of a good dog day out!
