Rather a soggy walk this afternoon! Going through Binning wood enjoying the warm and sunshine so strolling along in a hoody!! When the heavens opened and thunder and lightening crashed around us! 🙃
Not a good place to be in all the trees!!
Ladt dog of the day found a lively pile of badger p**p! And before I could get to him he had a lovely roll! Van was rather fragrant on the way back!!

Sometimes things are not as straightforward as we think! But...trial and effort as well as some perseverance pays off! Harris abandoned his small stick for this fence post! Sometimes also bigger is better!

A lovely walk with Harris on Thursday. People often ask if dogs prefer company of other dogs. I pride myself in fitting in with the needs of the dog. They are all individuals with likes and dislikes just like us!
As each dog gets to know me and me them we can either add them to a group, focus on something they worry about and try and help them, or find then a safe friend that won't act as a trigger if they are nervous of other dogs.
Each dog in my care has a care plan and is risk assessed which is fluid and changes as dogs change.
Harris is now enjoying doing labrador "stuff" and loves carrying a stick even though he knows I won't throw it for him.

Wow, the beach was heaving today (nice day, school holidays), so loads of loose dogs also on their day out!
Poor Harris found it hard but we kept out to the tide line and he had a great time playing in the sea with a ball.

Nice day today but windy. Nice and sunny for my first 6 mile walk up to Balgone and back with Tiley and Zach. Later the wind got up and I had my camera with me. Managed to get some nice photos of Belle and her stick! Blue had a good run about and sniff and I managed to get the mud off his legs for his return home!
They were quite taken with the dramativ events unfolding on the lake with the swans chasing their younsters from last year away. The male young went in the late Autumn now its the turn of the females to get chased.
I love looking at things when Im walking you never know what you might see.

Really useful video and information on rules of canine play. Dogs play rough but ask permission from each other. Dog fights happen for a variety of reasons but dogs need to learn the social rules. If they cheat this often leads to fights breaking out.
It is important you treat a dog like a dog and encourage social interactions but ask permission of other owners. Some dogs just can't cope so are on a lead.
Worth a watch. X

What a fun morning today. The frosty morning gave the dogs a bit more bounce today. My first client found a super stick to carry about.
My next client loved the frosty snowy ground today and had great fun playing with pieces of ice! Excuse the dodgy filming but holding the phone in one hand and a bouncy GSD in the other is not conducive to a steady filming hand. ###

So nice to see the sun out today. Cold and windy and we decided to take a wee trip to Yellowcraig.
It's important to mention that I spend a lot of time on a one to one basis getting to know my individual dogs that I walk. This is one of the reasons that after a while I can pair them up with other dogs that I think they might get on with.
These three are happy in each others company and adore seeing each other on a Friday. Dogs don't need to "play" with each other to be happy and content. A sniff and running about together with nice relaxed body language means a lot to dogs. The two smaller ones are older dogs and the collie is in his middle years so we walk at the pace of the dog who is oldest or has littelist legs!

Lovely walk on the beach this morning with wee Bear. Our crows are now waiting for us as we come down through the Glen. One sits in the trees and tells the others we are on our way. They must recognise the way I walk (or my woolly hat!) As I don't always wear the same jacket! I love watching how they interact with each other and us.

Weather's been well changeable! Gone from crisp and cold to squelchy mud and grubby dogs! Sorry everyone. Lol 😆
However the dogs enjoy the weather and their walks. Some even enjoy the water a little too much!

Meanwhile in the mizzly conditions Bear found a sea urchin. We tried to resuscitate it but going by the floating going on I suspect it had passed away!
Bear tried hard to give it the kiss of life while his sister just wanted to go home! Lol

Been a funny old week weather wise! Nice frosty day took me by surprise so first car scrape of the year!! Today one of those misty wet days that seemed to get dark very early!
Apparently today is the start of Meterological winter!!
Dogs have had some lovely but muddy walks today and Harris found a prize that he carried nearly all the way home!

Please if you are considering a puppy please think about what it's bred for and whether you can match the mental and physical demands of the breed. Just because you buy a pup and put it in a pet home does not make it suitable as a pet.
More and more pedigree dogs are hitting rescues and they cannot cope! Meaning some of these dogs will be put to sleep. It's not just money! People suddenly find they have literally bitten off more than they can chew!! (Excuse the pun) that cute puppy grows up and needs training and guidance everyday!!!
That cute puppy may have to be kept entire until 2.5 years old so do you know the physical and mental changes an adolescent dog goes through? How it's behaviour and needs changes as it matures? How it may suddenly become fearful and afraid? What to do when your bitch is in season? How a dog may not be able to be as sociable as he was as a puppy because other entire dogs don't appreciate puppy behaviour from an adult dog also entire. Lastly how a fight can kick off between entire if a bitch who is in season is around.
Please please do your research a dog is a commitment for at least a decade hopefully longer!

🐶🐶Finding the right puppy🐶🐶.

So you’ve made a decision to get a puppy, congratulations 🎉 Now you need to do your research. Many litters are promoted through their blood lines. You may see FTCH FTW in their lines. This basically means a Ferrari of the dog world. There is nothing wrong with this but you need to know what you are taking on. Pups with little red in their lines may be more suitable for pet homes.

Research your breed and breeder. Only buy from licensed breeders.

We would always advise to ask about and see the health tests for parents and grand parents for genetic issues. Again research your breed and know what they are predisposed to. For example labradors are affected with elbow and hip dysplasia. Although there are never any guarantees, having parents and grand parents with good hip and elbow scores lowers the risk. If your puppy has these conditions it will be a lifetime of management. So be prepared.

Research your vet and trainer. Visit them, talk to them so you have everything in place when pup comes home.

Know how you are travelling them home. Dogs legally have to be restrained in cars so make sure you have some way of doing that before collection.

Lastly enjoy 🥰 You now know you’ve done the best of your ability for a great start.

Been a very wet and wild day today. Thank you to all my lovely clients who let me shuffle dogs around to try and beat the worst of the rain. My clothing tally today was...4 pairs of gloves, 2 supposedly waterproof jackets, 3 pairs of waterproof (not!) Trousers and one pair of waterproof boots, then ended up In my wellies!
