According to Scandinavian mythology, Valhalla is a heavenly hall where heroically fallen warriors fall after death. The Hall of Fame of German Figures near the city of Regensburg appeared on the initiative of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. The memorial was conceived as a monument to outstanding representatives of the German people over the past 1800 years.
Valhalla stands on a hill on the banks of the Danube. The majestic building with columns was built in the neoclassical style in 1830-1842. It is the same size as the Parthenon in Athens. The architect was Leo von Klenze, the author of the building of the New Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
